Who you think will win this Wednesday Night?

For starters, check out the nominees for male vocalist. Marvin Sapp, who has the biggest selling song right now, "Never Could Have Made it"should win the award. But his major obsticle is that the voters are all from CCM and that CCM and those family freindly stations frown upon gospel people because either they never heard of these artists or don't add these artists to their playlist.

Another group is the Clark Sisters, who deserve to be "group of the year. But we wish they would win, but again, they would not get a lot of love from the Dove voters in radio because again, the voters perfer those whose artists who are on family freindly radio formats.

Mandisa would get a shot though for best new artists because she would get love from the family freindly voters of the GMA.

Hopefully when you read this, I don't want people to make this an issue of race, but with this Dove year, I just hope and pray that people who are voting make, if not already, make a educated choice and listen to all the music outhere and not be influenced because of "radio" or "format", but the lyrics which says something as for Sapp's song, which said something real unlike the other nominees--I mean don't get me wrong, the others did had a message too, but Sapp's song touched a lot of lives.

I think you're right about lack of radio plays for the mentioned artist (who I've never heard of) hurting them. It's hard for them to be chosen, when alot of the people watching aren't going to even know who they are.

If I were to predict the major category winners (With who I WOULD pick in parenthesis), I would say:

SONG OF THE YEAR: “East To West”; Mark Hall, Bernie Herms; My Refuge Music (BMI), Club Zoo Music (BMI), SWECS Music (BMI), Word Music LLC (ASCAP), Banahana Tunes (ASCAP) (I woud also pick this song)

SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR: Mark Hall (I would pick Leeland Mooring)

MALE VOCALIST: tobyMac (I would pick Jon Foreman)

FEMALE VOCALIST: Mandisa (I wouldn't change that)

ARTIST OF THE YEAR: Casting Crowns (I would pick Skillet, based on how many #1 CHR singles came off their albums)

GROUP OF THE YEAR: Casting Crowns (wouldn't change)

NEW ARTIST OF THE YEAR: Rush of Fools (I would pick Mandisa)


Some extra categories:

Rock/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year: "Signature of Divine (Yahweh)"; The Heat; NEEDTOBREATHE; Bear Rinehart, Bo Rinehart; Atlantic Records (wouldn't change)

Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song of the Year: "Name Droppin'"; Bone-Appetit Servin" Up Tha Hits; T-Bone; Rene F. Sotomayor, Teak Underdue, Dee Underdue; Flicker Records (should win out of nominees)

Inspirational Recorded Song of the Year: "By His Wounds"; Glory Revealed; Steven Curtis Chapman, Mark Hall, Brian Littrell, Mac Powell; Davis Nasser, Mac Powell; Reunion Records (I prefer Jeremy Camp's "Give Me Jesus")

Rock Recorded Song of the Year: "Break Me Down"; End of Silence; Red; Jasen Rauch, Anthony Armstrong, Rob Graves; Essential Records (I hope that one wins, that is a really tough category because all of those songs are good)

Yes, because the voters are controlled by whether you know it or not CCM and these people never ever heard of gospel or don't know because of they stick to one style of music. And this is why many of the gospel artists who in those major catorgories catatories have a hard time being reconignzed because the christian music world is all about those "family freindly artists" instead of Christian music covering the whole spectum of artists.

Now Sapp's song got a lot of airplay on both gospel and secular formats, and even on Christian televison. It even reached #1 in both the Christian and gospel charts.

See, here is the thing about the Grammies. The Grammy voters reach a diverse section of America because the secular world knows about music more than the Christian because the Christian sticks to one type of music and never go beyond their boundaries because the voter are usually inside their comfort zone and never want to check out other diverse musical sounds.

However, I believe that media such as the Gospel Music Channel has been changing the way people view gospel and christian artists by being included in the Christian music mainstream so people can listen to their message and more accepting of musical styles.

True, but I don't listen to CCM format radio, and I know some of those artists. I listen to CHR format, which would still explain why I don't know some of the CCM stuff and some of the Gospel stuff and all of the country stuff. They've done a good job expanding it a bit, but it still has a long way to go.

I disagree with you. Christian music is more about reaching out to people outside the Christian world to me. Or it should be anyway. So, especially the artists that have had more success in the mainstream should be the ones winning awards.

I disagree with you totally. And what do you define as "most christian?" because they sing christian pop? There are other genres of Christian music other than CCM and this is why GMA want those indivisuals to be included in "their world" because too long musical styles has been divided to be heard and people think that the whole world is CCM which is not at all.

There were people who were "upset" that their favorites did not make the cut of nominees. Maybe it was time for GMA to recongnize those artists who had sucess in the mainstream also to be included. John Styll knew what he was doing and it was about time.

I can't even imagine coming up with any predictions. There are just too many artists to chose from...does anybody know how they choose their winners. (Wait, is it voting from us fans? I should probably know this)

For some reason GMA week really excites me. I've never been able to go to Nashville to truly excperience it, and I don't truly even have a reason to be excited. But, for some reason, it's just an exciting time if the year for me.

My take on Rock Recorded Song -- with my odds to win:

Red, "Break Me Down".......................35%
Stellar Kart, "Procrastinating"..............48%
Skillet, "Comatose"............................62%
Relient K, "I Need You".......................73%
BARLOWGIRL, "MILLION VOICES"........75%

This could finally be the year for the BarlowGirls. I can't see them...beautiful, talented, fiercely religious, anticonformistic, LOUD, ever going winless. They will win one sooner or later. This bold statement, with passionate drums/lead vox by Lauren Barlow, could be the first recording by an all-girl band (other than the Dixie Chicks, who to me are not a "traditional" drums/bass/guitar/etc "band") to win any major music award I can think of in the USA.

Call me a homer if you will...the other four just don't impress me that much, not that I don't like them at all.

That particular category is a tough one, because I love every single one of those songs... But, I dunno, "Break Me Down" is the best rock song nominated there. "Comatose" probably got more radio time, but all 5 of those songs got quite a bit on my local station. They are definately some of the best ones too.

Call me crazy, guys...but for some reason, I believe the Barls "need" this more than the others...I just don't want them to look bad, to look like "that pretty all-girl band that the GMA trots out to Nashville every year only to see them lose at the Doves." I don't want BarlowGirl to be a novelty for being perennial Dove losers.

Then again, being from Chicago, the sisters' favorite baseball team is, most probably...the Cubs.
