Everyone will be thinking and preparing for the upcoming year and I thought I'd give a testimony of the material we've used. I taught my kids off and on before high school. During that time I used Abeka as we thought that was the best curriculum out there. We found it didn't exactly suit our needs and I did further research switching to use a combination of Bob Jones and Saxon math. As we began research for high school I found and we switched completely over to Alfa and Omega. Alpha and Omega is a computer program with funny educational videos. I can't tell you how many times I thought my kids were goofing off when they were actually doing their school work! I think it's wonderful that my kids can be having a great time while they're learning! My oldest is about to graduate. He really wanted to attend public school. We are missionaries. Last fall we happened to be in a rural town where we have a small home. Thinking that I could stay for the school year we went down and enrolled our kids in H.S. The school counselor was so impressed! We don't have any 'formal' records as we live out of the country. The counselor was presented with the classes they had taken and passed. He said that he'd NEVER had a homeschool student come in and be able to write down what classes they'd taken. That's amazing! At first, I felt nervous about enrolling them, then I felt really good! We didn't end up staying but came back home on the field. It's comforting to know that my kids are getting a great education! Technically, my son had enough credits to graduate without doing any work his senior year in the public school system! I know each state has different requirements. If I could do it again, I'd use the Alpha and Omega set up. There are funny educational videos for the kids and it's easy to set up their school schedule.
