Anyone out there competitive or married to a competitive spouse? Find yourself in competition with him/her?

How are you handeling this?

We're both pretty competitive by nature but we're such opposites that it's usually not an issue. Right now you know, for example, we're both have a pretty major fitness goal we're working toward. A big part of me is thinking he is SO not going to do better than me in this! I'm sure he's thinking the same thing. We're both able to use this to our advantage.

The only way we sort of compete that is negative is sometimes in our whiny human nature in situations like subtly competing for the attention or sympathy of who feels worse when we're sick or who had a worse day when we come home tired and grumpy. Stupid meaningless things like that.

Is that something like what you have in mind or is there more to it?

That's great Cynthia! I wish you and your hubby great success on your program! My husband and I got fit together and that's when I realized just how competitive I am! I'd get so mad when I couldn't keep up with him. We'd be out mountain bike riding and he's riding extra, circles around me and I'm ticked off cause I couldn't make my body go faster! I got really tone and that was sooooo cool! Then we moved to Mexico and well, our lives have changed and we have to figure out other ways to stay fit. I miss the bike!

We've known each other since we were 14 and so there's a tendency like siblings between us but we've pretty much overcome it, I think.

I don't think we compete with each other much. BUT we do team up and compete against others on occassion. All in fun.

When we first got married, we began a competition to see who can make the best omlette.
That was 19 years ago. Still looking for that perfect omlette from either of us. But I have learned that his idea of what makes a good omlette is very opposite from my idea.

We both just started a diet about a month ago. So far we are about equal with the weight loss. But I just injured my foot and cannot walk. No fair.
(and he has a gym he can use at work!)

My hubby is gifted in sports. He can do anything in that area quite well. Me, I can outread him.
He can't spell or write very well and often asks for my help in this area.

And I think I can just plain cook better than him.
He eats everything I make for him and likes seconds. But I just cannot eat his "Macaroni and Creamed Corn Casserole". [:'(] He made this recipe up after birth of baby #4.

So...I WIN!! [;)]

One of our unofficial rules for a happy marriage is always play on the same soccer team. [;)]

My spouse is extremely competitive and I am not the least bit wired that way.

If I have anything, he has to have something better. He's always sicker, more tired, more angry whatever you name it.

I refuse to play the game with him so I've taken quite a bit of steam out of his sails. He doesn't get to "win" anymore. Figure out what you give from this and what you get - then you can stop the behavior.

So after two weeks of cleaning up his diet a bit, dh announced "Look, I've got my 4-pack back!" GGGGGRRRRRR! Men! Metilac, I also just broke my toe. I've got to ge back to cardio!!! Not fair at all.

We are both very competitive. He always has to prove that he is better than me. I'm a runner and triathlete. I'm competing against others in my age group. Hubby went to the gym with me once. He saw that I'm better than him (I was doing the workout my coach had down for the day), and since then won't go back. Whatever. I just wish he'd go to the gym!

That's sad. Dh and I don't work out together. It's apples to oranges, really, to compare a man to a woman in the gym (especially when one is a triathelete).

I like the soccer reference. It is great if the spouses form one team and compete against others.
