What's your favorite movie quotes? I have many, but a few have been at the front of my mind...

From Say Anything: "I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen." As well as..."Joe lies...when he cries."

Then from Waiting for Guffman: "Kids don't like eating lunch at school, but if they have a Remains of the Day lunchbox...they're a lot happier."

There's always a lot of great quotes from Christopher Guest movies though...

amyk -> RE: Favorite movie quotes? (4/20/2008 10:54:33 PM)

I like two from It's a Wonderful Life:

1) "Why do we have to have all these kids anyway?"
2) "To my big brother George, the richest man in town."

"What we have here is, failure to communicate"

"I've been to one World Fair, a picnic and a rodeo and that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!"

"A gun is a tool, Marian. No better, no worse than any other tool. An axe, a shovel, or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that "

From Men In Black

Jay: Why the big secret? People are smart. They can handle it.
Kay: A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow.

I think there is a funny quote from the Princess Bride that goes something like this: "Why don't you just give me a paper cut and pour lemon juice in it?"

Does anyone else know that quote?

Gloria the Hippo: Okay, let's make a good impression on the people. Big smiles, everyone. Let's get it together.
Gloria the Hippo: Is that the best you can do?
Melman the Giraffe: Oh, I'm not smiling. It's gas.
Gloria the Hippo: Okay, well, great. Let's make gas look good.

Prince Edward: Have you any last words before I dispatch you?
Robert: You have got to be kidding me!
Prince Edward: Strange words!

Prince Edward: Once we return to Andalasia, Narissa, I will tell the entire kingdom of what you've done and will overthrow you!
Queen Narissa: Take away my crown? Edward, aren't you being a little melodramatic?
Prince Edward: I don't know what "melodramatic" means... but you'll be removed.

Darth Vader: If you only knew the power of the Dark Side. Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father.
Luke: He told me enough! He told me you killed him!
Darth Vader: No. I am your father.
Luke: No. No. That's not true. That's impossible!
Darth Vader: Search your feelings, you know it to be true!
Luke: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anakin Skywalker: I don't want to hear any more about Obi-Wan. The Jedi turned against me; don't you turn against me?
Padmé: Anakin, you're breaking my heart! And you're going down a path I cannot follow!

Some quotes from my all time favorite movie, Donnie Darko:

Dr. Lilian Thurman: If the sky were to suddenly open up, there would be no law, there would be no rule. There would only be you and your memories.

Gretchen: Some people are just born with tragedy in their blood.

Donnie: [reading poem in class] A storm is coming, Frank says / A storm that will swallow the children / And I will deliver them from the kingdom of pain / I will deliver the children back the their doorsteps / And send the monsters back to the underground / I'll send them back to a place where no-one else can see them / Except for me / Because I am Donnie Darko.

Donnie: [in a letter] Dear Roberta Sparrow, I have reached the end of your book and... there are so many things that I need to ask you. Sometimes I'm afraid of what you might tell me. Sometimes I'm afraid that you'll tell me that this is not a work of fiction. I can only hope that the answers will come to me in my sleep. I hope that when the world comes to an end, I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there will be so much to look forward to.

Dr. Lilian Thurman: The search for God is absurd?
Donnie: It is if everyone dies alone.

Secondhand Lions: "I'm Hub McCann. I've fought in two World Wars and countless smaller ones on three continents. I led thousands of men into battle with everything from horses and swords to artillery and tanks. I've seen the headwaters of the Nile, and tribes of natives no white man had ever seen before. I've won and lost a dozen fortunes, KILLED MANY MEN and loved only one woman with a passion a FLEA like you could never begin to understand. That's who I am. NOW, GO HOME, BOY!"

Full Metal Jacket (Crazy Earl): "These are great days we're living, bros. We are jolly green giants, walking the Earth with guns. These people we wasted here today are the finest human beings we will ever know. After we rotate back to the world, we're gonna miss not having anyone around that's worth shooting."

Citizen Kane: "Rosebud..."

Office Space is a great source of quotes (see my sig).

The all-time greatest, though, is Full Metal Jacket. Most of it, however, is not appropriate for this message board.
