By now it seems the moral majority has decided the field of candidates are not worthy. So now the question remains, is it best to vote for the lesser of two evils or really go out on a limb & praying God to deliver a candidate in a third party & investing in a miracle?

We had this discussion in Sunday School yesterday. They are in agreement that not voting for McCain is giving the election to Obama. I can see that justified when democratic votes are lost to Ralph Nadar. They feel there is no choice but to vote for McCain just to ensure that Obama doesn't get in. As a Christian, I wonder if that is the right way to go. McCain has not proven to me that he supports my views, but many in my S.S. class want to think that he's the closest thing we have right now to morally appropriate.

So, I'm pondering if waiting for a third party candidate & voting for that person is truly throwing a vote away to give the democrats the win or if not doing it is saying that God is not in control of this election. Your thoughts? kd

Like I said before, we're not electing a minister or pastor. These are ordinary "proclaimed" Christians running for a public office. It's weird how the candidates seem to be qualified for other public offices such as Senator, Mayor, Governor, etc. But when they try to run for president, we try to judge them by a standard they didn't need to have when they got elected to where they are now. To me, that's insane. That's like ordaining a deacon who may have some issues in life, but when he is up to be Pastor, he's no good. The standards need to be held at all levels. Stop voting in people with questionable morals at the local government level and you won't have to deal with it at the top.

The truth is, anybody can run for president. Why aren't there more religious leaders running? The Joel Osteens and T.D. Jakes of the religious community. If they did, I guarantee they would be torn down as well. It's not about the lesser evil. It's about the best person of the three. If they are evil, then we all are. No one is better than the other in God's eyes. We've all done wrong and still have problems with sin. That's not evil, it's the Christian struggle we all endure.

I notice the title of the thread is "being realistic or really trusting God"

Are you sure it's not "tempting God" rather than trusting him?

It's a very common and often used political strategy to put in a "third candidate" in order to take away or split your opponents vote. Next time you have a local election take note of it. It's very common.

I am pretty sure some Democrats come to this mostly conservative forum and encourage us to vote third party in hopes we split the Republican vote and their Democratic nominee wins the election. (Some folks think Christian Conservatives are stupid)

God is in control no matter "who" wins the election. God does not force his will on any of us.

Sometimes people win the election because the other party got their 3rd party candidate in place to split the vote.

Example:

My candidate is a "dog".

Your candidate has good morals and a fine Christian.

So my camp gets another "good moral and fine christian" person to run as an independant inorder to "take some of your votes away from you"....... (split that Christian vote)

making my "dog candidate" the winner.

I was/am taught that the only way to be realistic is to trust in God. Nothing else matters. If we truly trust in God's ability to take care of His Children it doesn't matter who is in office.

As far as this is concerned, IMHO, there are two elements about this that isn't fundamentaly correct:
1) I don't get to vote in Illinois, New York or Arizona, I don't know enough about who the opponents of the current three candidates are to know if I would have voted for or agains them. So your assumption isn't necissarily accurate.
2) This is the POTUS(President of the US). The world sees us through the office of POTUS. Not the mayor of smallville, Oklahoma. As far as the senators are concerned, the only time we get to see them outside of our own states is when they generally do something boneheaded. This process is good for the vetting of all candidates.

I believe God has his hands in this situation we may just not see it the way He does. Trusting in God is then all we have...

Really Trusting in God
I believe, once inside the Voting Booth, voting becomes a very personal thing; one that is between you and God. Therefore if, You, me, and every Christian would commit to pray and seek God’s face and will on the matter; while prayerfully committing to studying the issues of each and every candidate that is still in the running; then go out and vote for the one who represents YOUR own personal morals and virtues the most. Then we CAN Really Trust in God to do the rest; HIS will!!
