Don't worry about craving junk food. I crave potato chips and pop corn during the holidays. This is normal. Change is gradual, you might suffer from withdrawal symptoms, but sooner or later, your body will adjust.

Another thing I crave is chocolate chip cookies. I used to purchase them weekly and religiously. Through God's grace, I stopped purchasing them. Nowadays, when I go to the grocery, I swear to God, that I have to run the other way when I pass by the cookies aisle or like you Rice cookies LOL. Sometimes, I even close my eyes so that I don't get ensnared by them, esp when they are on sale.

It's a process and you can DO it!

I know I need to be careful to eat foods high in iron each month to keep my iron levels up, as I am unable to take iron supplements. When I forget, I am super lethargic and want to sleep all the time. Beets and spinach are good sources, and beef if you eat red meat.

Also, my understand is when you have such strong food cravings, it is a sign that your body is missing something. My sister used to crave celery. She would eat a couple stalks of it a day (that's the correct term for the whole thing, right?), and her doctor was able to determine that her body was missing something that her thyroid would normally produce, but because it wasn't functioning properly, she craved the celery which gave her body what she needed.

Can your doctor run some tests, or refer you to a homeopathic doctor, to run tests? There is a technique used to determine a deficiency in various vitamins and necessary supplements your body needs. It's called applied kinesiology, here's a link explaining it further.

I'm a huge believer in natural medicine and practices.

Wow thanks for the number of the book, and focusing for the link, and cloak, what are we to do, I hate to go through ricecake withdraws. (I am so wierd). I am going to look at link. Cloak, Thanks for prayers. My doctor ran a bunch of test, my ricecakes are high in Fiber ( sigh). Everything was normal, except iron being 8.1. I am thankful for the .1, a blood transfusion did not seem fun.[:o]

I agree that you shouldn't worry. The more we worry about doing something, the more we see the problems that will surround our actions ~ and the harder we believe it is. I wonder if it would be easier for you to introduce some different things into your diet first?

I also wonder if it'd be worth you seeing a dietitian? They may be able to suggest steps you could take that you're confident you can manage.

Low iron levels (and therefore haemoglobin, which is why you get tired easily) are either because:
-You don't take in enough iron
-you don't process it properly
-you're losing it somewhere.

A "normal" diet contains more than enough iron (including 5 portions of fruit/vegetables per day).

Absorption problems are not restricted to just iron, so there'd be a general deficiency of nutrients.

Processing problems are usually very obvious on basic blood tests.

Which leaves "occult" blood loss. [sm=icon_smile_yikes.gif]

It can be anywhere in the digestive tract, and very hard to see. A normal colonoscopy pretty much rules out lower bowel cancers, but if it's just a superficial blood vessel, unless it bleeds as the endoscopist looks at it, it may not be visible.

Do you have "diverticular disease"? That can be seen on endoscopy, and tends to be nothing more than a nuisance, but can be accompanied by low levels of blood loss.And obviously something like a stomach ulcer can be the cause, and 25% are painless.

I see this a lot, and at least 1/3 end up without a definite cause once nasties are excluded.

A gynaecological cause should be pretty obvious to everyone!

Unlikely. Your blood count (specifically the white cells) would be abnormal, and iron wouldn't be an issue. Anaemia would probably be due to bone marrow failure, which should look totally different on a blood test to iron deficiency anaemia.

There are things which can give the impression of iron deficiency anaemia, but then iron stores are usually OK and there's another explanation, like a kidney problem or a chronic inflammatory illness such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, which I'd expect you to be aware of!
And the kidney thing should have been ruled out ages ago, again, by a simple blood test.

Kidney thing, I must have missed. My kidneys hurt, what is that? I sound like a whiney hypocondriac, I am not usually worried about myself. I am always able to bounce back with much endurance, except now. Thank You. My doctor is in vegas, and cannot ask her these things.

Regarding your kidneys ~ have there been any changes in the colour/smell of your urine? Or has it been more painful to pass urine recently? If it has, you should get an appointment with a doctor to rule out a possible kidney infection.

They do hurt, but you are right about fear. My urine has no color at all, like a glass of white water, but nothing else. Sorry, sound like a nut, but the kiddneys have hurt since Sat. I will just go and have it checked when Doc comes back. I am never fearful over things with health, because I am healthy, so when I have felt bad, it has ben a liitle scary. Thanks.
