Not me, I would cry, and I am a big sissy foofoo woman. Hate squirrel.

No way - not here. If I am hungry, hand me a gun or ax - I'll kill that chicken, deer, or rabbit myself.

I've heard that squirrel is tasty.

Should it come to food shortages, this could be a time for the Church to shine. Imagine the Church sharing food with Muslims and those who oppose her.

Oh I agree.

I agree! If it comes down to survival, I'll do what it takes. I do have limits, though. I can't imagine our little gray squirrels are tasty.

It is my sincere hope that you are right.

But in the past, this hasn't proven to be the case. Ultimately, finance works out to produce these two simple laws:

1.) Given the choice between two options, people should maximize Net Present Value.
2.) Net Present Value= the sum of all future cash flows discounted to the present at an applicable interest rate.

In the past, NPV has suggested that farmers convert cropland into developments- and they've done that. They traded a series of permanent cash flows (their "livelihood") for one lump sum by selling to a developer.

We've also seen this with commercial fisheries in the Atlantic.

I'm not saying there's a way to increase yields significantly by bringing about greater erosion- but if there is, somebody (maybe not current farmers) will eventually employ it if it makes more money than just plain farming.

The farmers working now have survived through truly abysmal grain prices due to the fact that they are in it for the long haul (this includes my father, who has retained his land which is being worked by a friend of his, despite the fact that he himself has quit). Grain was ~$7 a bushel in the 1970s. When my dad stopped farming, it was $3. No wonder the farmers are cashing in on subsidies instead of expending all the fuel, resources, time, and effort to produce the grain.

The wrapper on your loaf of bread cost more (probably more than double, even) than the wheat in your loaf of bread.

I would be much more worried about whether or not we have the transportation necessary to get it to the places where people are eating it. I think that's probably why the west and east coasts are getting hit with this.

Squirrel is greasy. But aside from that it tastes just like chicken!

But on the serious side, Japan's hunger becomes a dire warning for other nations
quote:

"This was the first time the Government has had to take such drastic action since the war," said Akio Shibata, an expert on food imports, who warned the Agriculture Ministry two years ago that Japan would have to cut back drastically on its sophisticated diet if it did not become more self-sufficient.
This should hit home to us, we are having to import wheat for the first time ever and with the ethanol craze we are currently going through it isn't going to get better, locally or worldwide.

Could it be the government wants more control through a false claim of global warming (al bore has said that is what he wants) and to do so will lead to further control of people through food distribution? We already control people with food distribution through governemt welfare to individuals.

Gas is high, but it has risen and lowered before, about six years ago. I do not know, if this is cause for alarm. Will look into it.

But remember, back then we weren't using up our food supply to use in gasoline.

My youngest collie loves to chase them at the local dog park and almost caught one of the other day. A few days ago a baby squirel fell from a tree and was pounced on by a dog, Some of the women were boo-hooing and wanting to take it to a vet to save its life. The guys were saying it was too bad they didn't have a gun to put it out of its misery.

Froglegs done up right really DO taste like chicken!

Now deer tastes like venison.

And I got a really gross story about bloated legless frogs croaking in the river....

But it might be off topic, and we all know I don't like to go there.

I always thought Alligator tasted like chicken- just with a little bit of swamp mixed in.

I would not eat the border collies, they are just nasty sometimes, bathe them and they stink again.

I have rough collies and the way my youngest likes to tussle with me you would think the term "rough" applied to more than just his coat.

It tasted more like lean pork the one time I was conned into eating it. It wasn't bad but ugh it was alligator.
