If you're really, really worried about food shortages but don't know how to grow food, go out and get the Encyclopedia of Country Living to have handy.

That's a really cool book. My in-laws have that. We also have the Back to Basics book that came out in the 70's. It's fun to look through there and see how to chink a log cabin, make soap by leeching your own lye from ashes and rendering your own lard, and how to make kraut in a barrel. [:D]

Yes...I feel sorry for those who will starve waiting in line at the fast food joint.

And I'm ashamed to admit it, but I'm a little afraid of farm animals, even cows to some degree, though I have more experience with cows than the zero experience my husband and children have. (My family had two cows until I was five or maybe six years old. It could happen. If it does, I hope there would be some Christian brothers and sisters from the country willing and able to give us city folk a hand in all the new things we'd have to learn, and be patient with us when large animals we don't know what to expect out of make us a little nervous! [8D]

come and live on my property[;)] I will feed the farm animals if you vacume for me[:D] and if you do some canning...

I think I will get some[sm=chicken.gif][sm=chicken.gif][sm=chicken.gif]

LOL...You come live on my property too[:D] Your hubby can put up the fence around to keep the mountain lions and coyotes away from the farm animals.

You can help can too[:D]

I'm going to have a commune here pretty soon[8D]

but to create ashes you must burn wood and burning wood adds to global warming and add noxious gases into the environment. And by siting around the fire and in the natural act of breathing you are expelling that deadly gas - CO2 - into the environment,

So that's why all those hippies are smelly. They don't want to further destroy the earth by using soap.

The competition of the East Coast vs. the West Coast[:D]

Well mine is only about 6 months. However I already have numerous well-established fruit and walnut trees.

And I bought tomatoe plants yesterday[sm=Llol.gif]

lightshineon -> RE: FINAL WARNING: Food Rationing in the United States RIGHT NOW (4/27/2008 5:42:20 PM)

My husband said plants do the silent scream, in the store as I approach them to buy. I may go buy some today. I have built a fence with husband. Carried big, slabs. I am small staure, and they were heavy, not to mention it was 104 degrees. But, I did it last June, and hey we can do it again, just do not make me kill animals, or grow anything. I would milk a cow, but not goats ( childlhood trauma) LOL Come to OKlahoma, and commune with us, in the land of bareness.[:D]

OK, I'll get a couple cows, instead. but right now I need goats. My grass on the back fourty is sooo tall that when the deer are out there, all I can see is their ears[:D]

Oh, no...I don't kill animals. I love them too much. I don't even kill an ant[8D]

I bought lots of pasta at the store yesterday - It was on sale. I cleaned off the counter[:D] I bought some large bags of rice and bought tuna and some canned other stuff......I asked the checker if anyone else was beginning to stock up and he said "a few".

lightshineon -> RE: FINAL WARNING: Food Rationing in the United States RIGHT NOW (4/27/2008 6:27:03 PM)

My friend whose husband is a grocery store manager, said that it harder for rice, and staple foods. He also said someone told him stores are marking over prices in stores, jacking them up. I really wonder if this will get serious? I guess we will become vegatarians (LOL), I cannot kill either, and husband has not been hunting since we have been married. I will not clean, or eat fish either. My husband of course owns guns, but he knows how soft-hearted I am. I guess my husband neds to come mow your lawn. [;)]

There is always the option of using ashes leftover from a forest fire, so long as it was lightning or some other natural cause and not mankind that started the fire. [;)]

I would be in some serious TROUBLE here in Minnesota. We had snow flurries yesterday. Hardly no season to grow anything. My hubby is from Miss., he can hunt, fish, grow things beautifully. Had a pig named Maywillie for a pet!!! But to this city girl, the thought alone makes me sick.

But we are going to go thru some Tribulations. I think this is just the beginning..........

All we have to do is turn off the $1.25 per gallon government subsidy and those plants converting corn into ethanol will shut down real fast. We cannot afford to use more energy to get a gallon of ethanol than what the ethanol will provide, and that doesn’t count the waste of water (7 gals per gal of ethanol) It’s just another really stupid knee jerk reaction by our government and Al Gore. He started this whole mess back in 1995 when he sponsored a bill in congress. We have proven ways to produce energy, i.e. coal, nuclear and wind, why invent something that won’t work?

Agreed. And the current politicians in Washington don't have the courage to end farm pork...especially in an election year.

This isn't the first time in US history that we have gone through similar problems. In fact, I see a lot of parallels to what happened in the '70s.

The US has some of the best food security in the world. If it gets down to it, the government will probably ban the export of staples. The US can generally feed itself about seven times over, but I do pray for the developing world.

After watching Katrina, I'm sorry, I don't trust the Gov't to have my interests or care if I get fed.

They starving the developing countries now, what happens in a shortage?

There is more happening to tell we are close to the end. In the 70's they did not have the verichip.

Is this really so bad that we have to rush to the store and stock up on basics? I don't think so. We've gone through a number of "scares" in the past few years and nothing happened. Nothing. The economy worked itself out (if the economy was the scare in the first place) and people were left having to use up pounds and pounds of rice and beans.

But y'know, there's something interesting about the thought of living off the land. We've become so accustomed to not having to work for our food supply that the thought of actually living off the sweat of our brow and not depending on suppliers appeals to us. Just the thought will send me to Home Depot to buy tomato plants (even though I don't like tomatoes) [8D] [size=1](Ok, I'll probably buy some pepper plants, too)

Maybe not tommorrow cause how do you really know when the end is here?

Rev 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
Rev 13:17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

This verse tells me noone will be buying or selling, noone rich or poor can buy it unless we have the verichip. (Which the FDA approved in 2007)

How do you know the economy will straighten itself out this time?

Grace-N-Mercy -> RE: FINAL WARNING: Food Rationing in the United States RIGHT NOW (4/27/2008 10:29:57 PM)

My understanding, and I'm not a theologian, is that the rapture will happen prior to this and those of us who are saved will not be on this earth when the great tribulation happens (I'm just expressing my opinion as a pre-tribber, not to take this thread off course). That's what gives me my peace about everything. Also, knowing that God has promised to provide for our needs has given me great hope. If there are indications that I need to do more stocking-up (I could currently live for about 1-2 months just off what I have right now, and 2-3 weeks with no electricity), I'm sure I will. Even then, I will rest peacefully upon His promises, and I pray that you can share in that peace.

I have peace that my reward is in Heaven and that whatever I go thru it will be over soon.

I'm not a pre-tribber. I don't find any Bible verses supporting that Christians will not suffer. I think that's why He gave us the Word to prepare ourselves. The verse doesnt say Christians will be able to buy and sell.
