My parents believed in pre-trib, but I'm not so sure. What's with the idea that the rest of the world can suffer horribly but Jesus will return and snatch the church away before Americans suffer? I guess that doesn't really mean I'm not pre-trib; it means that I'm not too sure that American suffering = the Great Tribulation. Others have had to suffer.

I agree with the posters who expressed concern about the developing world. Tonight at church we had a special speaker talking about our denomination's mission work in Mozambique. Our work there is more evangelistic than humanitarian, although the speaker said that the country is very poor, still recuperating from a long war. One of the things he said we could do was to sponsor a pastor for $50 a month, and this would feed his family--mostly rice, he said. And that made me think of the limits on rice purchases that we've just been talking about. The first thing I thought was this: how long is $50 a month going to be enough? And now, typing this, I also wonder if the rice they are getting is imported. If it is, what happens when wherever it's coming from doesn't send it to them anymore?

Jesus himself suffered but we like to think we can skip thru life as easily as we have, get fat as pigs, live richly compared to the world and then He is gonna come get us.

$ 50 us dollars is like 100,000 of their dollars. Just think if we would leave their natural resources alone, then they could support self

Tracydolls, one thing I've always thought of when people say the Verichip is the mark of the beast, is what if you can get it in your left hand instead? Is it still the mark of the beast?

YES. What more do you need to convince you, you think the enemy is gonna say this the mark of the beast, no they gonna do like they doing, forcing people we don't care about to take it, but a time will come when we have to take it or starve.

Hmm, I don't know. People used to say Social Security numbers were the Mark of the Beast, too, and then they said the same thing about check cards. I'm not saying it isn't, I just think the Mark of the Beast when be in the forehead or right hand like the Bible says, and most of the articles I've read about it talk about it being in an arm or something.

I think the truth is that people are always convinced that they exist in a special time and place in history. And while it may be reasonable to believe this, we need to remember that nearly every generation of Christians going back 70 generations believed that Jesus was going to return in their lifetimes.

Jesus might come back- and we should be ready for that- but there have been famines, wars, immorality, and economic crises- often all occuring at the same time- going back for 2000 years. This is probably the thirtieth time in the past 2000 years that we've had all the following things at the same time:

1.) High costs of living and economic problems.
2.) An immoral world and various preachers railing against that.
3.) Famines and food shortages.
4.) People being convinced that the world won't survive another 100 years.
5.) Something that might, somehow, be construed as the mark of the beast being pushed.

This is nothing unprecedented, and we're all going to feel as foolish as the Millerites if we assume our current time is special.

Finally, besides just being Pre-trib and Post-trib, we may also want to consider pre-millenial and post-millenial. Post-millenials believe that the antichrist has already come and gone- likely in the form of Nero Caesar. This view has been around in the church since the time of the Roman Empire, and up until John Nelson Darby who went around preaching the doctrine of premillenial dispensationalism in the 1850s, was perhaps even the predominant view.

Well, one thing that makes it different now is identity theft. Having gone through 2 this past month, I know it is very real. One of mine is still unresolved. It is no fun having one's credit go from excellent to fair because some thief out there is ripping off your ID and co-signing your name to houses that you don't have a clue about.

They could well use that as a further argument to verify the need to get the chip...and the blinded public would probably buy it (get the pun?)

There are more verses being fulfilled today than any other time in history.

He gave specific things that are to be done before it happens, some have happened.

Social security numbers dont have to be inserted in you, that's what makes them different from the verichip.

I don't know about the mark of the Beast but I don't want some chip inserted in me. The technology exists to turn these into a human GPS system and who needs the government monitoring their every move.

This is starting to sound like an END TIMES thread.

Back on Topic: I saw a report on PBS about how overfishing off the Western African Coast is causing the people to kill more land animals to supplement their diet because the fish catches aren't large enough. Now packs of baboons of a more agressive nature as well as the hunters looking for food/game are causing the elephants, lions and other land animals to become more sparse.

I agree. At some point, Jesus is going to return, and we should be living every day as if that is the day. But getting frantic over it and assuming that we are "special" in some way that it's going to happen to us is pointless. It may, it may not. None of this is new. Every generation had it's prophets proclaiming the return of the Lord, and no matter what the year, somewhere, someone is struggling to have enough food to live on.

As far as chips, my issue has nothing to do with the Beastie. Don't want to be carrying a tracking device around in my body for any reason.

Back to the food things...
IF we face a food shortage, what we Americans will lose is the super-abundant, super-convenient, and super-processed foods. We may have to spend a larger portion of our income on food (which will give us a feeling of what developing countries have been dealing with for centuries) and we may have to work harder for our food, or even work to grow some of it. As long as the land can grow things, we don't have to starve.

But how many farms are small and family owned? In today's America it seems that a small farm couldn't raise the working capital needed to get their product to market in a way that could sustain the family or the farm for long.

Work hard for what food? If there is hardly any? What if the land cannot grow it, then what?

Actually there are some Amish that are doing contruction jobs outside their communities to help make ends meet. The contractors hate it because they usually charge less for the same job (because they aren't out to make a killing) and since they are honest workers, the jobs are done quickly and with good quality.

My wife had to do a report on the Amish and I was surprised to find that they weren't such a monolithic group in their beliefs and way of life.

They understand how to work hard to make ends meet. The are quite resourceful and are known for their woodworking and other things. They also tend to do business using common sense financial principles. That is part of the problem many people are dealing with. They are clueless.

So all of a sudden, the entire US will be in those conditions? Highly unlikely.

With God by our side, we have nothing to fear but fear itself.

Amen! We must remember that God, while He may allow tough times, will ALWAYS be there for His children! Sure there may be shortages - so we find alternatives and help each other and keep our eyes and minds fixed SOLELY on God.

I remember all the hype about y2k and how utterly worried so many folks were and how I had to laugh when I went to the store the very next day to get groceries and ALL was well.

I TRULY believe that God sometimes sets back and just shakes His head when His people get all stressed out and forget that He has PROMISED to take care of those that he has called to be His people!

I choose NOT to get all stressed out, do what God needs me to do to take care of those that are depending on me, and what God desires I do to help others. I can do no more then that.

Blessings,

Garsy

ok but the point is if there is a food shortage, so say 50% of the land becomes like this, do you think everyone will get their fair share, or be able to stand in lines to buy bread? What if you live in an area that does not grow food, how do you get it in a food shortage?

I fear the Lord.
