GrapeApe:

Okay, but I guess yours is a quite sweeping statement, but you're entitled to your very conservative views.

(I actually have what would be described as conservative theological views from the Bible, but when it comes to the external stuff like this, I'm not sure how conservatism in theology and conservatism in stuff like guys' earrings need to go together.)

Take care.

A lot of men have them, don't they?

Not this one.

Piercings look awkward on men, and something I'd never find myself having.

I got my one ear pierced back in my late 30's. Over the years the hole closed up. Now in my early 50's and my wife wants me to get the earring again.

stamper_ben:

Hi, so are you going to do it, (and is your wife herself into piercings? lots of ladies in their 40s and 50s have gotten double and triple ear piercings, anyway).

Well, maybe...

Claires is the simple alternative anyway; so is it where you went for your ear piercings maybe?

(As long as ppl don't mind sitting by the window with folks watching...)

I was just jesting. My girlfriend at the time pierced my left ear. I do not know where a man would go these days if they wanted it done.

Oh a piercing and tattoo parlor will usually offer a range of services, including ear piercing.

There is bound to be one not far from you, I guess, if you decide to go ahead. (I get the impression you are still thinking about it and haven't decided.)

No. Come what may, she's going to have to take me as I am 'cause I am not anyone else.

So you won't, okay, then.

What about her? will she do it again?

Eh, I'm not a BIG fan of guys with earrings. But I AM a big fan of lip piercings. My friends hate that, haha. But ohh well.

No, I am in my late 30's now, I would have to be talked into even getting just the left one pierced again![&:]

brothertodd -> RE: Earrings for males: what could you get to be accustomed with? (7/13/2008 12:23:08 AM)

I feel one earring would be enough, especially a cross, The bible stated that if a slave who was set free but wished to stay he was to nail his ear to the masters door post. An earring could be used to make a simular statement

faroukfarouk -> RE: Earrings for males: what could you get to be accustomed with? (7/13/2008 1:27:21 AM)

So you might consider piercing one earlobe, maybe?

No need for your attitude. Seriously.
And FYI, even though it's really none of your business, I'm saving up money to BUY a lip ring.
Take care.

SinnerSaved -> RE: Earrings for males: what could you get to be accustomed with? (7/13/2008 3:59:44 AM)

I have never liked earings in men. Actually, I would say that I have never liked piercings in anyone - male or female. I would go as far as to say that too many people think that they can improve on what the Lord has given us, so cosmetic surgery, tattoos and piercings are all in that category.

Just my opinion.

I believe that it is more a cultural thing. While I think a man piercing 2 ears is rather effeminate, the same thing could be said of a man during my teenage years who pierced even only one ear also.

And if you want to be technical, the Beattles back in the day were considered to have long hair when they were out, which no one thinks that they really did these days.

Okay, but ear piercing for men is even in the Bible, like with the Old Testament bondservant who when offered his freedom chose to use it by serving his master for ever. It links in with Ps. 40, 'Mine ears hast thou oppened', opened, = "digged" in Hebrew, i.e., pierced.

But the reason why one would do it today is not to show a sign of slavery, but for fashion sake instead.

humbleinspirit:

Maybe, or maybe not. In any case, you can get eg Christian fish earrings (there is a bit of discussion of that actually with a man on another thread on this site).

It's fine. It just came off as rude. Well, I thought so. :)
But if you didn't mean to, then alright then! Good to hear!

in answer to your question, had it been fashionable to have your ears pierced in both ears back then, I would have done that as well.

Now, I do not think that hostile is the correct word, now do I think its strange is another story instead.

Oh, I see...

'Strange', even though it would have been natural enough for you to have done it yourself, you said?

Anyway...
