How often do you totally submit? 50%? 75%? 99%?

110%

And you?

So all your teaching is perfect? There is absolutely no flaw in anything you have declared to be true about God or scripture? If I were to look through the posts on this board, every single post would be a perfect reflection of truth, because you were totally submitted to God when making the post?

Why are YOU so defensive about a question from SonInMe1 to me and my answer to him? And the question wasn't about perfection, it was about submission.

If you knew me at all, you'd know that I was reacting to SonInMe1's attempt at playing silly games rather than making a point. He posed the sort of question that manipulative people use when they have nothing substantive to further their agenda. He apparently felt he had me in checkmate if I answered anything less tha 100. Instead, he seems to have hooked you.

Notice he didn't answer to the same question when asked back at him?

Now take a deep breath and repeat after me, "Jimbo doesn't think he's ever been perfect or without sin."

Does the word translated "perfect" mean "without flaw or sin" or does it mean "mature"? Your answer might be in understanding what the word means in today's English.

A possible meaning of translated "perfect" when the Bible says "Be perfect" is "achieve/consummate human integrity and virtue of men" according to
NASB with Strongs @
http://bible.crosswalk.com/Lexicons/Greek/grk.cgi?number=5046&version=nas & MSNThesaurus on consummate.

Mt. 5:48 (AMPlified version) You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into complete maturity of godliness in mind and character, having reached the proper height of virtue and integrity], as your heavenly Father is perfect.
-

The complete definition in the Greek lexicon for Teleios (the MSN Thesaurus isn't relevant to a biblical word):

brought to its end, finished wanting nothing necessary to completeness perfect that which is perfect
consummate human integrity and virtue of men
full grown, adult, of full age, mature

God considers us perfect whether we have achieved a degree of spiritual maturity or not as long as we are sincerely believing in Him and trying to follow His will for our lives.
YES, YES, YES! It is solely the intent of the heart that "proves" Christian perfection, not the outward failings of the frail, imperfect, weak earthen vessel in which that heart beats. However, as God walks with us, growing in grace and Christ-like maturity, we gain victory over these failings as well.

I have noticed over my 58 years that people tend to live up to the lables that they feel towards themselves. If someone, especially a parent or someone you admire or respect, labels you in a positive or negative way, how much did that influence who you are today?

Likewise with being perfect. God says you are perfect, a saint, set apart, sanctified, set free from your past sins when you come to Christ as your Lord and Savior. As we realize that, we desire to change our lives to be the kind of person God says we are. Even though we have to struggle and mature through this process, it is important to realize who God says we are and pursue a life that reflects His presence in us.
