Single4Life -> Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 5:57:44 AM)

I've seen one thread address this indirectly, but I thought I'd get feedback as to what kind of pictures women like to see on those personals/dating sites? A friend of mine told me the other day that one guy posted pics of himself with his shirt off. She didn't like that at all! It didn't sound as if he was out of shape or anything like that, but she found it to be...tasteless. Obviously, some men think that a display of the muscles are what would impress women. What kind of "action" shots grab the attention of women?

I know a RECENT head shot and some type of full-body shot should be the norm, but what kind of pics impress you? Granted, there can be some subjectivity in this depending on your own tastes, but I'm still curious to hear your thoughts.

Men can answer this same question...What kind of pics do you look for on dating sites?

I like to see profile pics that shows women in the places they have travelled. I also kinda like those "natural" shots...when they aren't all gussied up for the camera...the REAL woman. Let the natural beauty shine! Sunsets and scenery are nice, but if you aren't in the picture, why bother posting it? And I really don't care to see a picture of your dog or cat. (Something about that seems to say that there is an unhealthy dependency.)

I need to get a good look at a girl's eyes and smile in a photo.. Obviously a full body shot would be nice, too. Have more than one photo, to help with authenticity.

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 8:37:19 AM)

i don't see why people limit themselves to 1 or 2 pictures. i think for women who wear their hair different ways, multiple portraits (head shots) is definately helpful as different styles appeal to different men. also maybe a pic showing you off doing one of your hobbies or having fun would be cool. i don't mind a cat or dog picture LOL but make sure you're in it :) i don't have an ad but if i do, i will probably put up a good number of pictures as i'm not sure which are good ones and which aren't so good.

Prairiehiker -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 8:42:12 AM)

If a guy posted an unclothed picture on his profile, regardlless of how good looking he looks, I won't bother to respond to him. If he posted it in the background, I guess, it would depend on what he's doing while the picture is being taken. I mean, if he's waterskiing, or surfing, or doing the Baywatch/lifeguard thing, then, that would pique my curiousity.

As far as pictures go, activity or travel pictures always get my attention. No pictures of you and past girlfriends, or you and the Hooter girls, lol.

BlessedAngel1983 -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 8:42:20 AM)

I have a yahoo personals account and a plentyoffish account. I have the pictures maxed out!

Tinkerbell_ -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 8:53:52 AM)

What cracks me up are the pictures that guys post and there is obviously a woman was cut out of it. *grin*

I'm always kind of...iffy about those profiles. *shrug* But that's just me.

good one and personally i think it looks tacky if someone displays a pic with somoene opposite sex with arms around their waist or something and then the other person's face is like blacked out in photoshop, lol.

edit: and tinkerbell_____________ , lots of women do that too cropping people out

BlessedAngel1983 -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 8:57:20 AM)

I don't like pictures that are obviously taken in a mirror.

John_O -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 9:21:41 AM)

I think if I ever do one of those again I'm going to do a where's waldo sort of beach picture.

"OK I'm on that beach somewhere"

BlessedAngel1983 -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 9:26:04 AM)

ROFLOL...John that is too funny!

Single4Life -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 9:29:08 AM)

That's funny b/c I've seen some pics w/ multiple people and they don't ID themselves.

If a woman posts a pic of her w/ some guy, she would be wise to state that the guy is her brother, brother-in-law, or her gay friend. [:)] (Did I just say that in a Christian forum?)

I also find the grainy, cell phone pics to be weak...or those stills from the cameras mounted on top of the monitor. Ha!

Tinkerbell_ -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 9:32:24 AM)

But you know, I give kudos to those who do the cellphone shots, or the web cam ones. Sometimes they just don't have the 'friends' or whatnot to take a good picture. I know that most people have at least one or two friends around them, but sometimes they don't. That's why they're on the dating site.

As for me, some of my best pics are taken with my cell phone. If you don't believe me check out my myspace page. I have a bunch of pics on there that I love that were taken with my cell phone.

OK, I'll give ya that...but post your BEST pics. Some of the ones I've seen in my limited browsing have been...interesting. Of course, you could say the same thing about some hi-res pics.

iwillfearnoevil -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 10:29:02 AM)

good points about cell/webcam shots ... but then take a lot of pictures playing with the lighting, etc to get a clear shot ...

ShallbeRebuilt -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 11:05:18 AM)

In my short time on dating sites, I've wondered what guys are thinking when they post their pics...

at least %50 of them post pics with other ladies. Usually younger than they are and good looking. On the rare occasion it is obvious that this is their daughter or some one related to them: but most of the time it's not and there's no explanation!

Guys...I'm looking for someone unattached! [;)]

If it's your daughter or your cousin or your best friend's mother-in-law's granddaughter and it's the only pic you have PLEASE say so.

Otherwise, keep the other women out of your pics.

I don't care whether the pics come from webcams or whatever, but I agree with IWFNE...please don't just post the first take. It's rarely flattering, doesn't show the real you, and quite often gives me the impression that you are sloppy, unmotivated, and just really don't care. Oh, and think about what is going to show in the background. It will probably make me close the match immediately if it's obvious from your house in the background that you haven't cleaned up in quite awhile, and don't care if I know it.

I DO appreciate multiple pictures. And I DO appreciate pictures that give an indication of your interests and hobbies.

I DO NOT want to see any part of you unclothed. That part doesn't matter to me. If I end up falling in love with you, I fall in love with your heart and spirit, and the physical will take care of itself. Let me see your eyes and your smile. That's what matters.

....... this conversation is making me laugh. [:D]

I think cell phone pics can be creative and fun.

I also think cell phone pics in the bathroom mirror can be enlightening... because you may find an expression there that you wouldn't find when the person is actually having his/her picture taken by someone else.

Like many others... I like to see the guy in his natural environment... if he's a suit guy... than suits it is... if he's a jeans and t-shirt man ([:D][:D]) than jeans n t-shirts it is.

Bare bodies are not a turn on... that just seems like an indication of too much too soon. [sm=blush.gif]

Poorly doctored pics seem to be a red flag...

A guy who can actually write AND post a couple of good pics is hot seems to be in my interest... [sm=halo.gif]

[:D]

I once saw a profile of a guy who posted his old wedding photo! So tacky!

trainfan -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 3:43:03 PM)

I think the ones where the person is way in the background, like standing in front of a mountain or a monument, are strange choices. I mean sometimes they are surrounded by beautiful scenery but if I wanted to look at a picture of a mountain or other scenery I would look for picture of that.

I also have saw one recently where the woman has her tongue sticking out on a shot she obviously took herself. Very tacky.

ladioffaith -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 4:17:10 PM)

So you're saying you're OK with a photo of the mountain just so long as the person is not "way in the background?"

Some of us have not taken any photos of ourselves that don't involve scenery or other people.

I have a photo on my profile with a disclaimer stating that the photo is "for entertainment purposes only" and that I will send a more recent one to anyone who requests it. Because my job is rather public, I'd rather not have a normal photo for anyone to find.

I'm OK with it as long as it's not used as the primary photo. The particular one that comes to mind has the scenery completely dominating the photo and the woman just happens to be in it. She is so far away you can hardly make out facial features or even hair color for that matter.

FunBetty -> RE: Personals Pictures (4/24/2008 5:32:22 PM)

I once had a bad experience with this. The guy apparently did not post a recent pic. The only pic he posted of him smiling was...outdated. So I wonder if he knows that the reason I (pretty much) bolted in real life was because his teeth were rotted out and smelled like a whole bottle of cologne.

But this was after 3 months of lengthy telephone conversation.

Ew, I agree. I guess there's no telling what the person will be like IRL.
