But for whatever reason, it is your right not to say it. I still think there isn't any theological reason for abstaining from saying it.

Given the term god in the pledge isn't the God of the bible I can think of a host of reason not to...

John

Funny, it always meant that for me! So then, John, you could agree with this statement that we must obey US law only when it doesn't contradict God's law as written in the Bible?

What you, lightshineon or anyone else makes the pledge is a pesonal matter... Because you believe it to be God doesn't make it so, or change the meaning of the words in the pledge...

The fact remains the pledge is to a flag with a mention of a god... To be honest it would be better if the pledge didn't mention God in the fashion it does... God doesn't like to share glory with others...

Here's my answer...

God ordained the civil government, yet that doesn't mean that all the laws of man are lawful when held to the word of God. God's law is supreme over that which He ordained. My only obligation is to obey those laws that are not in conflict with God's law.

The pledge isn't lawful given the term god is not speaking of God as He is described in His word. Given the laws of the land in regards to religion the term god in the pledge is universal and not specific.

As well I will not swear any pledge and or oath to a government that doesn't hold Christ as its King... As you posted, respect and honor to everyone who deserves them.

Given various actions of the authority in question I don't believe it deserves it...

John

So then, you could understand that when someone feels that certain laws conflict with the Bible that they would be against such laws?

Not what they feel, but what God's word says... People feel whatever suits their fancy, their purpose...

Then why are you resisting the plain language in Lev. 19:34?

Wrong thread... And it's not plain... Lev. 19:34 doesn't nullify borders of the laws associated with them... It's about the treatment of foreign people living with you... Nothing to do with borders and having them secure...

Before you charge me with something please have your facts straight. Thanks in advance...

Then show me a quote (not pertaining to only one country, Israel) that the Bible says explicitly something about secure borders or immigration laws. Romans 13 doesn't count because it talks about respecting authority, not borders. Leviticus talks about the alien which is a person who is not residing in the country of one's citizenship. The word alien does not differentiate between legal and illegal and the Bible doesn't either.
