When the Bible speaks of tithing 10% of our income, is that money meant to go specifically to the church or to charitys in general?

I don't think it has to necessarily go to your church, but to doing good work wherever you see need. Don't neglect your church either, though, if you attend there you must feel that they are doing good things in the world worth supporting.

Do yourself a huge favor and take yourself off the 10% giving thing immediately.

the 10% new testament tithe is false to the new covenant, a short change of what the old covenant demanded and a blockage to giving without constraint.

There are plenty of great articles found on the web and elsewhere that will help you to learn to give without the bondage of tithing.

That all being said, Jesus said "Seek ye first the kingdom of God" and all these things shall be added unto you. Seeking the kingdom first will require more than 10% of anything you do or give. Jesus will ask more from you than a dollar from every ten.

There are no storehouses in the new covenant, there are no curses for not following this law.
You are probably not going to give the 23% yearly in tithe like the OT requires, or save up for a one time gift of all your crops per year.

The law is very specific about the tithe, you cannot obey the laws of tithing only give 10%

Just be a new testament giver and give cheerfully, seek Gods kingdom, remember the poor, widows, your pastor, your neighbor the orphan, the destitute....youll find plenty of places to give...and ministries that can help you direct your monies to good causes.

John
