Just found out about it last week, and I think they're fascinating social experiments. I even sent them a message with some of my own ideas for what I'd like to see.

Basically it's hidden camera thing where the hire actors to act out morally controversial scenarios, and see how people react.

So anyone seen any?

Yes, I have seen all of them. Some of the reactions (or lack thereof) of some people anger me.

I actually thought one of these scenarios was being played out in the local Wal-Mart saturday night. I hadn't been in weeks and weeks and finally broke down and went.[8|]

A woman and her 2 yr. old son were shopping. They were not using a cart. She had a hold of his hand while she sorted through the women's clothes. He had a teddy bear in his hand. She was at least 5'9" tall.

She was moving around the aisles of clothes and he dropped his teddy bear. When he tried to bend down to pick it up, she jerked his lil arm so hard I thought she had dislocated it. She started fussing at him and he pointed at his teddy bear, but she kept helling at him and jerking his little arm.

I had been watching him (he was just so cute) and when this happened, I stood there shocked at first. And, thinking this was one of those 20/20 moments did occur to me, but then I thought does that really excuse me from saying or doing something.

Well, I walked over and picked up the teddy bear. She had already dragged him around the corner while she still looked at clothes - he was crying, not loudly but big tears were just coming down his face. In fact, he had made very little noise.

I said excuse me, but I believe this belongs to your son. She snatched it from my hand and threw it at him, telling him that he was lucky the nice lady brought it over because he was so lazy and stupid to have dropped it.

Anyways...by this time I was fuming. I looked at this woman and told her that I had noticed her treatment of her son. I asked her if she thought that by yanking is arm like that, she could be doing some serious damage to his shoulder. She told me to get out of her face and she'd do what she wanted. She tried to swat at me with her purse. seriously...

That was it - I called the police and we had a nice little chat for about 45 minutes with a police officer.

Not saying I knew the whole story, but jerking a childs' arms, etc. is considered abuse by many and based on what I saw, I felt it was the right thing to do.

This is the 3rd time I have stirred up trouble with parents. I'm becoming a menace.[:D]

I watch those scenarios with clenched teeth, just waiting for one that realistically shows retaliation by the other party for interferring.

OH MY!!!!!! I am not one to call the police for things, but man oh man....she sure needed someone to give her a reality check!!!!

My husband told me that he would not surprised if he got "that" call one day to come downtown and bail me out.[:D]

I've seen the first few shows but with the regular shows being back on the air, I forgot all about it. I've seen one where a friend saw her friend's fiancee with another girl. Another one was this lady was sitting by the bar and someone took her purse. I thought one of the most interesting scenario I saw was when they had two groups of teens...one all white and one group of African American boys and both groups were supposedly vandalizing a car and how many reacted with one group of kids and the other group of kids were just ignored. Then at the same time...they had a couple of African American guys taking a nap in a car in the parking lot and the police department got more phone calls for that.

You can't deny that Wal-Mart attracts a different kind of buyer than Target. At least here in this city/area that is more than true.

seriously, if you want your child to exhibit self-control and remain still and quiet...why would you take them to a store filled with every toy in the known universe? [sm=aside.gif]

I do that alot, I'm so busted.

The one that got me the most upset was the one with that Muslim woman, and the way that some people applauded when she was refused service.

This must be the same show where they showed a group of girls verbally attacking an overweight woman. All kinds of people just kept walking by until finally one person said something to the girls.

I've watched once or twice and it's pretty fascinating what onlookers do. I also read here:http://www.local6.com/news/16124767/detail.html,that they did an experiment with a missing child and posted posters at mall and they found that a majority of people did not notice or stop to help a little girl after seeing her face on a missing person poster a few feet away

Do you really think people who shop at Target do not abuse their children? I shop at both stores and have seen mean people and crying children in both places. About 2 years ago here in Charleston a man (a stranger) tried to abuse a 9 year old girl. It was fortunate that the child got away and eventually they captured the man in Kentucky. This could have happened at any store! My point is there are good people and bad people from every walk of life.

Didja notice the smiley-tongue-in-cheek smace? It wasn't a serious statement. I am well aware that abusers also shop at Macy's and Nordstrom's.

The police officer took his time getting all sorts of useless information and then finally got to the problem of her suspected abuse. I gave my story, she gave hers and the police officer then called to see if he could get someone from child services to come over, but there was no one available.

He gave the woman some kind of written citation and a warning that she would be contacted within 48 hours for evaluation purposes.

I have no idea what happened after that.

I hope so, too.

I called about a week later to talk to the officer and he said that as far as he knew, it was in the family courts.
