maybe that's why she looses the grip because she is choking. By reflux I dont mean the spitting up kind, the silent kind that Nath has? Does she seem to guzzle it down as fast as she can or eat kind of slow?

She definitely guzzles. Acts as if had never eaten before. After a whole day of every feeding being a challenge today, I'm super frustrated. And I know she gets frustrated too because of all the air she is swallowing (and I do try to burp). Sometimes it becomes to be hard work for her to deal with and then she doesn't seem to get a full feed each time.

That would be hard, Nath does that during the day but at night he's a little calmer. How often does she feed? She will be on the bottle when you go back to work won't she and just breast fed when you aren't at work? does she handle the bottle better?

Oh, I *have* to know what time he starts and finishes feeding. He feeds for 15 minutes these days, and sometimes around 10 minutes (like clockwork) he gets really squirmy so I take him off and burp him and he gives me a good burp, then I put him back on for 5 for minutes or till he seems done. It really helps me personally to know how long he nurses. I think it helped a lot mentally to know it wasn't some unknown time period but was actually pretty much just 15 minutes each time. I almost always nurse him on our couch so I put a nice, small clock out there. Helps. Jeanie

Yeah I am the same Jeanie. I like to know how long he has been nursing for and how long ago his last feed was, helps me feel like I have some sort of control which helps me cope with feeding. Does she do it on both breasts nicole or just one? Does she feed from both for the feeds or from one and then the other the next feed? Does she guzzle at night time too?

She feeds from one breast each feed. Normally she guzzles day and night. Last night she was a little calmer. She also woke only once during the night. We woke up about 6:30 and I was super full. It was a little hard for her to eat when I'm that full. I pumped after her feeding and that has helped a lot. Right now she is on the floor happy as a lark just yacking (talking) away.

Nicole, what position are you using? It seems that when Josie was nursing in the cradle hold, she was laying down more and when she nursed in the football hold, she was sitting up more. Could you try a more sitting up position like the football hold if you're using the cradle hold? I'm definitely no expert but it's a thought. Did she not gag with the bottle?

lol...you are cracking me up Jeanie......ok, here's the skinny on teething..... *it can happen at any time during the first two years of their lives. For my kids, one had his first tooth before he was a month old, and another didn't get her first tooth til after her first birthday...so it is all up to the individual baby. *teething can be visible sometimes, but sometimes it can't be...if the teeth are just moving in the gums then they may be miserable but you don't see the white patch for the tooth yet. *teething can affect any part of them....and according to my mom different teeth affect different areas (such as the eyes, the stomach, etc). *every baby will have different symptoms...some druel all the time anyway, and others don't....so those that druel all the time may be more prone to it more during teething times. Some typical symptoms can include....clogged sinus's, drueling, crankiness, flushed, fever, diaper rash, intestinal issues, spitting up more, clogged tear ducts, ear problems...basically just about anything can be affected by teething (again depending on the baby and the tooth coming in)

It's ALL a symptom!!!!!!! How in the world do people survive teething? The poor babies......... Okay, thanks for the comprehensive list, Sarah. I know my mom said one of my sisters had no teeth until she was 8 months old -- at which point she got 8 teeth in her 8th month! Crazy!! My sister's twins are 6 months old. One twin has 4 teeth that just pushed and pushed and came through (made him miserable). The other twin has two teeth and is taking the slow way in getting them here so seems to spread out the suffering more (so it's not as dramatic, my sister thinks). I am not looking forward to him teething but I don't want him to be a toothless man so I will grin and bear it. (No pun intended.) Thanks again, Sarah! Jeanie

I usually use the cradle hold. I try the football hold but she is getting big that it is a little awkward. When mom gave her the bottle she took it well. She curled up her face at first, but then took right to it.

ORIGINAL: Brandy nicole could she be using the bottle feeding technique on your breast? It's easier and faster for most babes to get milk from a bottle, so it makes sense to me that she's trying to gulp your milk down in the way she could a bottle and is getting herself all out of whack. Does that make any sense? Yes that does make sense. However she has only had four bottles. So I don't know?

She might settle down Nicole. Nath was alot like Mary in the beginning but has settled down now that he is getting solids, although he still does kick and sort of squeel when he sees me undoing my bra, he knows what's coming and he just can't wait to eat!

Thank you for the discussion Nicole. It helps to talk it through and to see what other mom's/babies routines are like.

Emma was super cranky one weekend when she was about 3 months old. Woke up one night and she had 3 teeth! It was weird though because they came out the side of her gums, not the front and they were not her front teeth either. Then after about 2 weeks, they went back in. At 6 months she cut 2 teeth and they came out normally and stayed out! She ended up getting adult teeth early too. She had lost her 2 front teeth before kindergarten - and the adults ones came out immediately, no waiting.

Ah, the joys of teething. We're in the thick of it right now! Josie got the two bottom center teeth soon after surgery (she was barely 4 months). Now she's working on the two on each side of the first two...that makes FOUR teeth. I wasn't sure what teeth she was working on until I saw the buldges today. Even the breastfeeding doctor commented on how the two on the right were almost ready to pop through and the two on the left weren't far behind. OY! I went to the breastfeeding doctor today. I told her I was getting to the point where I would be glad to just pump but I really want my supply increased and so far it’s only increased by about 2 ounces a day. She told me that she has a friend who is an LLL leader who had a cleft baby and she was determined to nurse but she ultimately came to the same conclusion I have come to…feed the baby as best as she could and supplement as necessary. That really spoke volumes to me! She even went as far to say, “You can quit nursing knowing that you have done everything you possibly could.” It was worth the trip, gas money, and co-pays for that! Also, I pumped while I was there, using a hospital grade pump. I’ve been wondering if a hospital grade one would do better but it does the same thing my pump does. She also made sure my pumping flanges/cups/whatever you want to call them fit well and they do. That was also worth the trip! So, I’m going to try some other herbal things and a different prescription.

I am looking at nursing things again. I had for Nadia just plain cotton, washable pads. I liked them and they worked. Yeah, if I had a more form fitting shirt it did look like I had headlights, but for the most part I am at home all day, impressing no one but hubby. And he doesn't care. What are the odds that I will need something more than what I had this last time? What I mean is, has anyone ever leaked more with other children? I'd like to make myself some, since I have a nice serger now, yay! And I know I can do it. What do you think?

Laundry? What's laundry? Who does that? Honestly, I don't remember where they are!! That's the funny thing. I find them from time to time. Which I'm not sure why, but they just sort of show up. Who knows what my daughter finds. I'm trying to remember how many I had with her.... I probably had about 4 pair. I think. I just loved those things. After wearing them and then wearing the paper ones, ugh, yuk. So annoying. I'd rather have the cloth ones anyday. I'll have to go on a hunt, see if I can find them.
