I think I misworded the private part issue.. I think I mean more like.. at what point do kids realize private parts are sexual?

A toddler just knows they make milk. But at 8 wouldn't they know something a bit more?

Ahhh...yes, that is a different question.

Well, since I have an 8 year old[;)]...he knows they are private parts, but I don't think he views them as sexual. He doesn't know they play a part in a husband and wife's marital activities, nor does he know what goes on in detail. He can watch me nurse a baby and not think twice about it, even if I am exposed. But if he walked in on my getting dressed somehow, he would probably blush and turn around and leave. So he does get that they are private, but when I'm nursing...that makes a difference, if that makes sense?

Nicolas (7), OTOH, has been exposed to porn and watches R rated movies on a regular basis. To him, they are very sexual and I have to be very careful to be completely covered when he is around. When Levi was born, we actually had to make a rule that he was not allowed to look at the baby while he was eating.[&:] So that is the difference in how they have been raised and what kind of things they are exposed to.

Hannah has no concept of them being sexual at all. She still remembers having "milky" and still asks for it occasionally. She is excited about watching the new baby nurse when he or she is born, and I will let her.

I was having regular periods at 9 so I can't imagine my level of awareness at 8 allowing nursing to still be an option.

I really, really don't think it was God's intention for a girl to nurse up until she ovulated. [8|]

There are 10-year-olds having babies and 8-year-olds still nursing. [sm=icon_smile_disapprove.gif]

I think back then I was nursing 6 times a day or more, so that sounds about right, but he was eating waaaayyy more then just a teaspoon of solids per food group. I'd mix a large jar of applesauce with baby oatmeal and that was one of his meals; I think he was getting 3 or 4 of those size meals a day by then.

Times I have nursed today? Zero. For the first time in over 15 months. Obviously I'm not ready to called him weaned yet, but I'm still ready to dance the jitterbug.

Yeah, I know that sounds awful, but I'm proud of myself, and more then ready for a break in nursing. There's still plenty of challenges yet ahead, but I feel good about what I've done, and I think we're both ok with stopping now.

Why should you feel that it sounds awful? You need a break from nursing before the next one gets here.....and he seems to be okay with that (weaning seems to have gone pretty easy without a lot of fight)....you did great. You did your best to feed him....and you did well.

15 months is a good amount of time....

I don't think Reagan will stop asking until Lincoln quits getting milk. Nursing was no big deal, just something she did once or twice a day before he was born. Once my milk came in and she saw nursing meant you could cuddle on momma's lap for 15 minutes, she wanted it all the time.

She still climbs on my lap, presses her cheek into my breast and asks "Momma teetee milk please? Please Momma?" She is really mastering tone and voice inflection. She knows how to sound sweet and convincing. But enough is enough. I want a time where I'm only nursing Lincoln. He'll start solids in a few weeks and I want a time where I'm his sole nourishment and I'm not shared with his sister.

Sideways -> RE: Got Mommy's Milk, Take 6 (7/4/2008 8:10:39 AM)

You're doing the right thing, Prudent. At this point she doesn't need milk, and she's getting plenty of love and affection from her wonderful parents. Sounds like it's just a manipulation game at this point.

PrincessDonna -> RE: Got Mommy's Milk, Take 6 (7/4/2008 8:30:58 AM)

I agree. Don't give in even once unless you are okay with her continuing. BUT...do make sure you replace that snuggle time with something non-teetee related. I replaced feedings with reading books in the beginning.

Sideways -> RE: Got Mommy's Milk, Take 6 (7/4/2008 8:40:03 AM)

Nathan has not shown a desire to nurse in the last few days, but if he sees me changing, he will react tot he sight of my breasts. He wants to push or pull on them. [&:] Like they are toys.

PrudentWife -> RE: Got Mommy's Milk, Take 6 (7/4/2008 9:16:44 AM)

I won't give in. I know she's not suffering nutritionally or emotionally.

Ruth, I think BF babies just have a 'relationship' with breasts for a long time. Reagan often 'holds' one of mine when I pick her up. I don't think she realizes what she's doing, she just puts her hand squarely on the breast. I move her hand and don't make a big deal of it.

Ughh. Ladies, I am soooo sick today. Mastitis. [:@]

[:@] [:@] [:@] [:@] [:@] [:@] [:@]

Does anyone know if it's possible for something like that to "simmer" a few days? I have just been inexplicably tired and crabby all this week, and then last night I woke up feverish and in pain. [:'(] I'm doing everything I need to do, but man, I hate this. And dh is at work, so the kids are pretty much on their own. I let them get toys and books out in the living room and collapsed on the couch.

I had a preschooler who did that to me (a girl)..and I told my director about it (thinking it was something to worry about it), and she said it was probably no big deal..just was probably breast fed long enough to remember it, and we were kinda like "mommies," to the kids so she was just putting two and two together.

Sideways -> RE: Got Mommy's Milk, Take 6 (7/4/2008 5:03:57 PM)

Ah, I'm so sorry Maggie. And here I thought I was having a rotten day!

Can you call your mum? Hopefully your man will be home soon.[&:]

BlessedMamaofmany -> RE: Got Mommy's Milk, Take 6 (7/4/2008 8:38:55 PM)

(((Maggie)))

What.a.drag. I don't have any input...but some prayers for sure

the first time I had it it was like that....just not very productive for a few days, then BAM...the pain and other things hit all at once. I hope you feel better soon.

PrincessDonna -> RE: Got Mommy's Milk, Take 6 (7/5/2008 10:20:14 AM)

Yuck, Maggie! I hope you're better soon! Are you on antibiotics or just trying to deal with it on your own?

Levi still likes to stick his arm down my shirt when he's snuggling. He hasn't nursed in 5 months.

thisistheday -> RE: Got Mommy's Milk, Take 6 (7/5/2008 11:47:14 AM)

How are you today Maggie? When I had mastitis I was just totally wiped out and miserable. Yuck.

Dee

Hunter hasn't nursed in about 5 months either and he still will nuzzle (not trying to nurse just gets close to them) them when overly tired as well as when he is hurt and needs comfort.

3cappuccinosmom -> RE: Got Mommy's Milk, Take 6 (7/5/2008 12:20:07 PM)

Thanks ladies. Much better today. [:D] Although the affected breast is still red and swollen and hurting. But I can deal with that. It's the not being able to stand up for 30 seconds without wanting to just lay down on the floor and die that gets me. I'm glad that part's over. How does a localized infection affect the whole body like that?? [&:]

I did call my parents. Didn't want to take antibiotics just yet, but wanted to know if they had any advice. My dad suggested cabbage leaves. [8D] Knowing my mom, she will probably bring some antibiotics with her today "just in case" I need them. [:)]

Sideways -> RE: Got Mommy's Milk, Take 6 (7/5/2008 12:33:47 PM)

That's really nice, Maggie, that you have your parents for medical advice and support. They sounds like great people. [:)]

if I were you I would start the probiotics too if you haven't already

3cappuccinosmom -> RE: Got Mommy's Milk, Take 6 (7/5/2008 11:33:14 PM)

Looks like it's clearing up on it's own. My mom was really frustrated with me at first (for hesitating on the antibiotics), but I think that was due to her own issues right now. She apologized later. [:)]

BlessedMamaofmany -> RE: Got Mommy's Milk, Take 6 (7/6/2008 7:18:18 AM)

YAY! So glad you're doing better Maggie.

Well, and she's your mom and she loves you. I can be frustrating when someone we love isn't doing what we think is best for them. [8D]

3capp Maggie--

Do you use the Mama's Milk Tea from the bulk Herb place you linked to?

If so, how do you prepare it?

I never had the need for it. But I imagine I would prepare it the way I did the pregnancy tea. I put a few Tbls. full into my french press (since we don't drink coffee) and let it steep. You can also just use a regular teapot, and a tea strainer to keep the leaves out as you pour it, or a "tea ball" which just makes one cup at a time.
