ORIGINAL: firefightermama Ugh, Christina, that's gross... I can't wait for those kind of messes, I just know i'm in for it! He already sticks his hands in it when I change him. I avoided it totally with both of mine by giving them something to hold while I changed them. quote:
My nephew had a ton of ear infections when he was little, and they took him to the chiropractor and she did a couple of treatments, and he was alright after that. I guess there was something out of place in there, and everything kept getting all plugged up. Manda, is there any homeopathic remedies you would recommend for sinus troubles for babies? Can you get New Era Tissue Salts over there? Have a look at this page, for New Era Tissue Salts Combination Q I think that even Sideways won't mind this remedy as it contains only minerals: quote:
In homoeopathic potencies, equal proportions of: Kali Mur (Potassium Chloride PH. EUR.) 6X. Ferr Phos (Iron Phosphate B.P.C.) 6X. Kali Sulph (Potassium Sulphate B.P.C. 1949) 6X. Nat Mur (Sodium Chloride PH. EUR.) 6X. Lactose I gave New Era Tissue Salts to mine when they were little.

THIS SITE recommends homeopathic-strength Pulsatilla for earache in infants/young children.

I'd also personally recommend not giving any form of dairy produce while they are congested. I am not including breast milk in this, but cow's milk, cheese, yogurts etc.

Locking kids in a car: My situation is similiar to Cappy. This automatic stuff can really hurt you! lol. I push the wrong button and realize right as the door is shutting or shut.

Something in dairy causes the body to produce mucous -- and when you are already congested, it makes it 300x worse. That's why we avoid all dairy for at least two weeks after the kids (or us) have contracted some type of bug ... just so everything can clear up nicely.

I locked myself out of the house a few times too, always with a toddler in there, of course. I've had nightmares with that as the central theme! Slightly unrelated, but could use your prayers. We've been living with my parents for almost a year now, working on paying off debt, etc. We're doing better and are now ready to go out on our own again. I htink I found a great place today. Please pray that the Lord will let us know if this is the right place and right time. Part of what's got me so excited is that Kenna will have her own room!!! --Kat

Will pray, Kat! I can't believe you've been with your parents almost a year! quote:
I've had nightmares with that as the central theme! LOL...it was scary, for sure. The first time it happened, we lived in PA, so Noah was just barely 2. I brought the trash out to the curb and was in my jammies. I was able, after 15 or 20 minutes, to convince him to turn the lock. I really didn't want to leave him to go to the landlord's and get a key, but if he had not opened the door, I'd have had no choice. The second time and third times were in this house. The first time here, Noah was here and we had started taking things out to the car to leave. Hannah was about 15 months, and roaming in the house because I was coming right back to get her! I sent Noah down the wood chute, through the pitch dark basement and up to unlock the door. The second time here, Noah was with my dad. I was pregnant with Levi, so Hannah was about 22 months. I had gone out the back door to feed the dog and Hannah locked the door on me. No way could *I* fit down the wood chute, so I had to find a window I could get to raise up (a HUGE feat in this ancient house...most of the windows are painted shut!) and crawl through it. I bet that was a pretty picture. We now keep a key hidden outside.

I think Jadon is going from NB diapers to #1's! He's been leaking and they just seemed small to me, but I thought it was all in my head. I got on the scale at my MIL"s and weighed myself. Once I had that number I got back on the scale holding Jadon. Each time I did that the scale read 9lbs heavier. How accurate is that? If that's accurate, then it appears my son is now 9lbs! He really doesn't feel that weight! He's in between NB clothes and 0-3 month clothes. The NB are a little too short and the 0-3 are too big in the shoulders/sides, but fit in the length. He's growing AND sleeping better in his own bed. Yay :)

That method of weighing wasn't very accurate for us, but it could depend on the scale.

Ruth - I am still enjoying them... well, half of them. It's so hard since he seems to be right in-between.

I took Jimmy to the walk-in clinic this morning, but it was going to be an hour wait. I should have just left when I saw how full the parking lot was. Normally they get me in and out of there within 30 minutes. So, we left because I had to go shopping before Robert got home for lunch. I'll be bringing him back this evening after dinner when Robert can keep Timmy at home. Manda, thank you for that useful info. I wonder if I can buy Pulsatilla at a health food store or something. If Jimmy is going to keep getting ear infections, I might as well stock up on it. Manda, does it cure an ear infection, or help ease the pain of one? Do homeopathic doctors write regular drug prescriptions too? Like I could just switch the kids over, and not have to see a regular doctor anymore because the homeopathic doctor can meet all needs? Yolanda, your friend who's baby went to the chiropractor for ear infections, do you know what the name of the manuver is? It does seem like Jimmy's ears don't drain. He hardly ever has wax in there, and Timmy (never had an ear infection) always has a ton of wax that I wipe out everyday. I wonder if my insurance would cover a chiropractor or a homeopathic doctor.

Not to butt in but our chiro adjusts our kids. Our insurance covers both chiro and naturopaths but there isn't one near us. :( Also, our chiro doesn't actually charge for adjustments on children until they are two I think. You might be able to find a similar deal if you call around. Last night we went to bed at 10:30, Gideon woke at 2AM, 5:30 and a little after 8. Not too bad. When he woke at 2AM DH got up with me to change his diaper while I settled in the glider and he started singing Happy Birthday to Gideon. I turned to look at the clock and sure enough it was a few minutes after 2AM on Monday - exactly one week after he was born. What a sweetie!

A question - when Gideon has a pee diaper sometimes there is a residue left right where the end of his penis would rest in the diaper. It's like an orange dust. Anybody know what that is? Neither of my other two had that.

It was hubby's sister's baby, and I go to the same chiro now, but she's on mat leave, and I doubt the new guy would know, though the girls at the desk might be able to look in the file... I will ask SIL if she remembers what they did.

When is Gideon due to have his next check-up? That is called "brick dust" and is totally normal in the first 7-10 days of life. Gabby had it until after she came home from the NICU, so she was over a week old. Oh, it can be a sign of dehydration, but if he is having enough wet diapers then I would not worry about it right now, but I would if it continues for much longer(more then 3-4 days).

Gabby's was orangeish all though it could have been pinkish orange, those days were all such a blur. I think any range of those colors is pretty normal. This is from Dr.Sears- quote:
The color of the urine tells you whether baby is getting enough milk to keep him adequately hydrated. Pale or water-colored urine suggests adequate hydration; darker, apple-juice-colored urine (after the first four days) suggests that baby is not getting enough milk. If your baby is not getting sufficient amounts of milk, you may notice a "brick dust" residue on the diaper, due to urate crystals from overconcentrated urine (a normal finding in the first few days), which should disappear after increasing baby's milk intake. Julie, didn't your milk take a little while to come in? I would say they should go away soon although if you have had milk supply problems before, then I would get him weighed with an intake scale.

Well, to be safe then, I would recommend calling the nurses line But I really do not think it's anything to be alarmed about.

Thanks ladies! My milk came in Thursday and stronger on Friday, day 4 and I let him nurse anytime for as long as he likes so I hope he's getting enough. At the same time I did have my reduction surgery so I always doubt that I'm making enough milk. He seems satisfied after eating and is alert, has wets and poops a lot and doesn't appear to be dehydrated. His next visit is Wednesday so we'll be able to weigh him and talk to the doc. I'm going to be starting fenugreek soon so I can have a little more confidence in my supply. Here is a pic I took of him today.
