Well, emotionally she seemed to do OK. After the first day she went in easily and even the first day wasn'[t too bad. SHe said she did a lot of guessing. THe question is if they were educated guesses or not. I'm sure she had some problem with math. SHe is still struggling to learn her times tables and so we haven't done much with multi-digit multiplication..much less division. We'll see. SHe said she liked the grammar/writing parts better than math. THere weren't any tears over it once she got in the classroom onMonday. WEll, I am supposed to be working; Had DD at the school at 8:!5. From there went to my first cleaning job. Now at my parents for the other one (I have a little time to spare here), then back to the school from 3:15-5:30. If it doesn't rain DS has t-ball from 5:30-7. Grandpa will take him to that. SOmewhere in there I'm supposed to plan and have dinner?!?! I think we may get hamburgers from BK: can do that cheaper than going to the store and getting everything I would need.

The temp agency just called. They are submitting me for a job that pays nearly as well as my last one. It is agricultural, but office work. It is supposed to last awhile..from the type of business, I am figuring probably through summer. Please pray.

Jennifer--that's great! Donna--hey, I"m doing MY part to stimulate the economy! Two new tires for my bike ($55 each!), a tri suit, arm warmers, and shorts and arm warmers for ds1. Last night I went shopping and bought 3 new swim suits. Being a triathlete is expensive!!! We lost a baby. I don't know what happened, but there's only one baby in the nest. The two other eggs haven't hatched yet. Momma is no where to be found, but she frequently does that. They're only robins, but I so hope they make it!

I found the baby. It had fallen out of the nest and was lying on the deck. It was cold, but still moving. So I held it until it warmed up, then put it back in the nest. A third egg is hatching. Momma had come back and was scolding away!

Praying, Jen. quote:
Sue, Oklahoma in July!!! Make sure your AC on your car is charged!!! Just ask Amy she will know how hot it gets!!! We thought it would be the week of the 4th, but didn't count orientation. Looks like it will be the second or third week of July. We'd better take the car because the AC in the back of van doesn't work.

Isn't tractor repair a rather odd occupation for an Amish person? The ones around here don't even use tractors.

Maybe he's Mennonite and not Amish? Mennonites here drive cars and use tractors.

ORIGINAL: 2jsmom Isn't tractor repair a rather odd occupation for an Amish person? The ones around here don't even use tractors. The amount of technology an Amishman is allowed to use is determined by the district elders. In our district, they are permitted to use things such as phones, computers, and engines, in their businesses that they are not allowed to use in their homes. Many districts are beginning to accept the fact that it's just not possible to make a living with a small farm these days - if they don't allow their members to use at least some technology for business purposes, they are essentially sentencing them to a life of poverty. Although most Amish would define "poverty" differently that we might, they still need a way to make money.

Most of the Amish around us have jobs these days - they are either working for someone else at least part time or they have their own businesses in construction, tractor repair, etc.

So the ones in your district can also use power tools for construction?

I think so, as long as the construction is a job. I don't know about constructing their own houses. I'd have to ask my neighbor.

Three babies!!! All of them are looking strong! Ds1 has a job. The neighbor is going back to work and needs someone to potty the dogs. Ds1 is the one that everyone is turning to when they need odd jobs done. We should finish testing tomorrow. If not, ds4 will finish on Monday.

The Amish here don't drive either. I don't know of anywhere that allows that. Otherwise, things can really vary quite a bit. For instance, in our district everyone may have a phone at their business. Just over the line in Ohio, they can't. The buggies here are the solid black ones that most think of when they think Amish buggy, but southwest of here they are a square wagon type, brown on the bottom and white on top. It can be quite interesting to note the differences if you're looking for them. Patrick has a job interview on Monday. It's just a local gas station but at least it would give him some cash.

By the way- it is Thursday night, and still nothing legally happening from hubby's former boss. PRAISE THE LORD!!! His new employer has assured us that we do not need to hire an attorney and they will back us up if anything happens. Hubby got his final paycheck in the mail today, and we were so relieved! We did not know if they were going to drag their feet or make it more difficult for us. He still has several vacation days left, and they did say that he would get paid for them. We are hoping to get another check for those shortly. We should have the house on the market by middle-to-late next week. Once we get that done he will head up to Cleveland to start the new job. Please pray that house will sell in a timely manner. We are going to aggressively market and price it so we are not stuck here for months and months...

Ezri, I'm glad the appointment is over and that Jerry is so understanding. I hope they'll be able to get everything done before he leaves.
