In both examples, God seems to be using the elements on earth to create verses zapping them out of thin air. Nevertheless, the Bible and science agree that life first began in the seas and then later on dry land.

Now I have a question for you. In Genesis 2:4 it says, "These are the generations of creation". What are the generations if we are talking only literal days?
Also God made the sun on the third day. So what is a day? Is it not one revolution of the earth on its axis as it revolves around the sun? Therefore, if God waited till the thrid day to create the sun what is the earth rotating around as it spins on its axis? Is it even spinnig on its axis? You could argue that the earth was spinning on its axis as it does now but what of morning and evening? How is there morning and evening on the first two days before the sun was created on the third day? You see, things were ot as they are currently. Therefore, all the rest is speculative at best.

Briefly scanning the responses you have received so far - and also reading other related threads on this forum - make it fairly obvious to me that you have been given quite a few leads useful to your OP and your quest.

Those who responded that they had gone through similar experiences do not seem to be in the dismissive "been there, done that, got the T shirt" category, but rather encourage you TO seek and question and come to your own conclusions.

Those who responded by starting to deal with the specifics of your question, for the most part, have provided leads that you can investigate and research.

Those who responded in the "have faith, pray, read God's word" category complement the efforts of the other two groups in the sense that IF you have researched and investigated, there comes a point where endless re-hashing of old questions is not only useless but detrimental.

Thus I only have two COMMENTS regarding these responses.

a) the "investigations and research" you undertake should not limit itself to the menu served up by the reigning "pseudo intellectual" community that currently seems to hold sway in so many universities including my own. Your research sources should include those that address and challenge the false logical assumptions of the "pack". One good "outside the box" source is Ravi Zacharias ministries that specializes in logically inviting university and college students to really think through their enquiries.

b) the "have faith, pray, read God's word" group are really alluding to a truth that is best illustrated by the following encounter with a university professor...

At one Alpha university question period (Alpha is ANOTHER group that regularly visits university campuses), an atheistic professor was first to take the floor and went on for about 20 minutes with point after point about why he thought Christianity was untrue.

When he finally sat down, the ALPHA representative graciously said..

"Professor, may I ask you, IF we were to successfully answer each and every one of your questions to your FULL satisfaction, would you then BECOME a Christian?"

The professor shook his head violently and said "NO!"

To which the Alpha leader said "Does anyone ELSE have any questions?"

This last, rather sad and humourous interchange, illustrates a question you must ask yourself... do YOU WANT to receive "help" with this enquiry?

(Thus the "have faith, pray, read God's word" group are not being anti-intellectual, they are merely pointing out that PART of your personal response comes from a willingness to BE open to the promptings of a God who is real and living and not a mere intellectual construct.)

The type of "investigation" and "finding out for yourself" that earlier post-ers have suggested you undertake, has little to do with advice that urges you to go with your feelings.

Although the Holy Spirit will bring peace to your heart when you seek Him, it is not a peace that stems from satiating your body in every conceivable way.

One very good way of telling the difference is by noticing the FOCUS... is the "peace" all about focusing on what I need, what I feel, etc. etc.

or is it turned outwards filling you with an adoration of the Creator, His ways and His beauty, etc.

1b> The Holy Spirit has been reffered to at times as the "wind" of His Spirit.

2> Saturn's rings are formed by particles that are twisted together.
This could not be explained without a Creator God.

Hey, I can understand your problem, you are in the fire. University is the world at it's worst.

I cna recommend a good book for you and it has references to meany other good resources. The book is "The Evolution of a Creationist" by Dr. Jobe Martin

The record of nature is completely compatible with the words of the Bible! But our interpretation of the record of nature may conflict with our interpretation of the words of the Bible.

Also I really wish you would take a step back and see the big picture of who God is and the full amount of evidence for Him. Once you do that, arguments from the likes of Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins just look silly. And most of the arguments from your college friends are probably regurgitated from those guys and others like them.

Colossians 2:8 warns: "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ." That's exactly what atheism/naturalism is -- a hollow and deceptive philosophy. It has no explanatory power for the big questions of life. It is based simply on a desire of fallen man to live apart from the Creator.

One book I can recommend can help you take a look at the big picture: A World of Difference by Kenneth Samples. It examines the full implications of the historic Christian worldview, some reasons to believe in it, and compares and contrasts it with competing worldviews like naturalism and eastern religions.

Ive said this once and ill say it again. the science community is not all what you see. Im sure in liberal arts colleges where practically "anything goes" social environments exsist, your going to run into alot of folks who think they know all about it. In reality you have to understand most college students transition many, many times. 9/10 they dont kjow fact from whats being taught. What im saying is that there is a huge number of researchers, doctor's, scientists, from all fields who are in great support for God, The cross, jesus etc, and have data to back it. Now do youy think that todays media is going to portray these individuals? No they wont, rarely at best. Ill give you a quick a example. Now first, this is just a quickl easy example to make a point.
Humans are 99% similar to apes.....well a watermelmon, jelly fish, and a cloud are 99% water...

i know how you feel. i was loosing my faith in christ until a friend told me to pray and ask god how to help me. i don't know what to say to you except to pray and ask god to show you in the bible where to go and what to say concerning the scriptures when it come it science. there are many scientific facts in the bible like gen. 1:1-31, gen. 2:5-7, is. 55:8-11, ect...... i hope this helps some. ask god to help you.[:)]

lol well the point i was making is that although 99% may be slightly inaccurate from the context which i took it (dont remember the exact numer given), ...I was listening to a bilogy disucssion where the comparison was made, the point is that its said Human beings are almost identical to apes, sort of like a backing to the claim we came from apes, or whichever type of primate it supposedly was, but data also showed that in the same way, watermelons, clouds, and jellyfish are identical. Im no science major, i dont do research on biology, or astronomy, or anything like that in fact i work in computer forensics...I was saying that there are individuals from acredited universites (MIT, yale, stanford, etc) whith PhDs, masters degrees etc, that through research, and there careers have become aware of God from the fruits of their labor.

I mean in all fairness there could be an argument that "initally a christian, agnostic, bible beleiver, is going to have a bias by default so there work would center around that bias". THats not what i was reffering to. I was speaking of those who came into thier fields as passive agnostics, aethesits, or all different non-religous beleifs who now, back up God and scripture.

you may find the following interchange sheds some illumination on the "reasoning" used by those in support of evolution...

"Bill Nye the Science Guy" is a popular program we use in schools, and it does have the advantage that it gets the kids jazzed about science.

However, it starts with a pan shot of the old and well known set of drawings depicting the supposed progress from ape to man...

So, I asked my colleague,

"why do you continue to use these drawings when each intermediate stage has been so well documented as fakes and mistakes?"

His answer was classic,

"Yeah, well I know the drawings have all been proved to be fabrications...BUT IT GIVES KIDS THE GENERAL IDEA" (of evolutionary progress)

The OP who is "losing his faith" needs to know ANOTHER "faith" is waiting for him. And it demands an obedience of thought that rivals the WORST portrayals that the media makes of "Christian tunnel vision"

Hi, First all religions are based on Faith. There is Historical Doctrine to back it up. This is where your free will is growing. And I hope with the Holy Spirit guiding you. God does not want robots. So as we mature in life so dose our free will. I pray you find more Christian friends to hang out with and fellowship with. And perhaps a Church to attend so you do not fall away from your Faith. It is easy for anyone to loose faith at college. Christianity isn't the center of life there. knowlege is. You are there to be educated on all kinds of theories, and philophies, Please keep in mind everyone has their freedom of choice, whom would you rather associate yourself with. Some one of your faith or not? I don't mean you can not be friends with nonchristians. However if you choose to stay on the path with Christ, you have to defend your views. If you need to Study the Bible more it wouldn't hurt you. So I pray you find your truth. When I was young I tried to walk away from Christ also, the Holy Spirit always calls me back with his gentelness. I am never truly happy without God in my life. That is how I know I am his child and he has claimed me. The Holy Spirit is a gentle man, he will not go agianst our wills, but he will whisper to us. I hope you don't have to go threw trials and tribulations to figure it out. I pray you choose to stay with God. In Christ's name.

Honestly, the only thing here I think is evolving is science. 100 years from now, what scientists are so religiously putting their faith in will be disproved. Isn't it nonsensical that the degree to which we can know truth should depend on the progress of technology? The truth is in your fingerprint, in that tree outside your window. Show me a car without a maker or a home without a builder... it just doesn't exist.

There are logical arguments for God: look up ontological, teleological, and cosmological; or read some books, look for Case for Christ or Case for a Creator.

Above all, pray. God can and will reveal himself to those who seek him. If God's existence was totally illogical, you would dismiss him like Santa Claus and forget it. But you obviously care... you were born with a sense of who the perfect creator must be. Do you think you inherited that from apes?

Allow me to recomend the Case for...series by Lee Strobel, and right now The Case for Faith and the Case for the Creator ans these should be able to answer (hopefully) your feelings and questions Faith is about when one is in doubt and Creator is about creationism and evolution.
give them a try I believe you wont be dissapointed.

I've yet to see "science" provide the blessings and opportunities that are presented, daily, by God upon the horizon of every sunrise. I've yet to see any other power who gives us "science" or the ability to study and understand science. I've yet to see "science" provide any of us with the gifts of love, forgiveness of sin, 2nd chances, or free will.

Conversely, when I open my eyes and am willing to accept God, God's forgiveness and God's love I see it all.

Right off the bat, I'm going to point out what I see. From the very get-go, you are pointing what you have "always been told" by your parents. It isn't always good to believe what you have always been told... sometimes you need to take it a step further, and experience it for yourself. You need to believe what Christ tells you, and believe the experience He gives you as He reveals Himself to you.

It seems that the faith in Christ is not your own, and I ask you, have you been born again? Unless you are born again, you are not a child of God. Perhaps you are born again, and if that is the case, then let that roll of your back, but it is true either way--you must be born again.

I am fully aware of everything you are learning about in college. Understand that there are many learned men who maintain their Christianity. You need to realize that the world is being given over to strong dilusion, but Christ is the truth, and God's Word is the truth. The Bible is reliable. Yyou are going to have a choice--either believe God's Word, or be persuaded by men who devote their lives to a strong dillusion. They can be convincing, and have a knowledge that seems intelligent... but it isn't. It is insanity.

I think you need to ask the question... have you been relying on your parent's faith... or have you been relying on the faith that only Christ gives. Do you have a relationship with Him? Have YOU personally, specifically, given your life to Him? If you have not had an experience where you gave your life to Christ, believing that He is the savior of the whole world... then that must be your first step.

this is a personal one for me. I used to kind of toy with this idea, but i started to do my own research and found very knowledgeable christians and research that blow all of those evolutionist agnostic teachings that you are being presented. Do not get me wrong on the surface they look super convincing but do your own in depth research, it completely solidified my faith, into a more mature appreciation for our heavenly father.

As many have said, pray, ask God to help you, also try and find some church group at your college like a campus crusade for christ, or something like that

also, I have this book called bones of contention (updated edition) that blows evolutional theory (in just this one area!!) out of the water, it is very scholarly and extremely well done. It has to do with how bones of cro magnon man, and various other skeletal findings "prove" our ape like ancestorage. I would be totally willing to give this to you, just PM me your address if you would like

well my friend what ever your view is of God, no matter what you may think of who God is? God is God and he is never going to change, Jesus is Jesus is the only true son of God. when your in the world you are going to hear so many different ways to God? well the word of God says that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life and no one can come to father except thru him.
my dear you first need to have a spiritual check up., you need to read the 4 gospels, matt, mark, luke, @ john. and this will let you know if your heart is in the right place for Jesus to work in you life.
if you ever were born again, you can come back. but............if you have never repented my dear then repentance is the only way to start your realtionship with Jesus Christ.
