I'm not sure where you are. If you are in the US look for a local literacy coucil or an adult education program. A library may be able to direct you to either of these.

English is a difficult language to learn, no doubt.

I think your best bet at learning conversational English is to watch movies, listen to audio/the radio, and interact heavily with anyone and everyone you can in English.

Don't feel self-conscious, just do it. [:D]

Great advice! I would recommend this also. It is important that you immerse yourself in the English language by watching movies, television, and also by making English speaking friends. Since the U.S. has many people from foreign countries who speak their home language, it's easy for someone to "hang-out" with those who speak the same language. The best way to learn spoken English is to get acquainted with those who speak it. I have known people who have lived in the U.S. for many years, yet still cannot speak English because they stay in their "language comfort-zone". I have a friend who is from Japan hardly spoke any English when she came to Hawaii for college. She's been here for about 2 years and now speaks fairly well conversational English, as she has made friends with English speaking people.

Don't be embarrassed about asking how to say certain things, or what they mean. Don't worry so much about pronunciation either. If you find something difficult to pronounce, just ask.

if you are in chicago
we have an esl class at our church and i am an assistant in that.
try looking for a chinese community center, many programs offer esl classes to help people with their english. in chicago chinatown here where i am, there are many places which offer chinese immigrants help with their english

and what the person above me said! watching movies and conversing with people thats what helped me become fluent in chinese in my family

I quit my job recently. I have been looking for a job in computer science. Last week I took part in an interview of a foreign company. However, I realized my English needs some improvement.

Or:
I realized my English is not so good.

Your English is good considering the fact that you are still learning. I only made a few corrections.

This is true. Ask a librarian.

Find a literacy program in your area who can teach you English. They have volunteers who can teach you one on one and it is free.

hi Feng

Are you living in China, or in another country?

Yes, ask at the library for help; there are often free classes in English and the people there will know.

Also, watch "Sesame Street" on TV. It is for children but it is slow and correct (and fun!).

Get a Bible that is Chinese on one side and English on the other. Then teach yourself.

English is a very difficult language, because it is irregular and the letter "A" has 5 different sounds. I'm sorry, you'll just have to memorize what sound is used for what word.

Take courage - many Americans do not speak English well, either, so do not be embarrassed. You're doing great already - keep up the good work! [:)]
