I grew up eating Mexican food and I'm thin. I know lots of thin Mexicans. I don't know that the food can be solely blamed. [;)]

Me too, I used to be engaged to one.

But Mexcian food leads to obesity in many. On the whole it is not "healthy" or maybe it is just the way it is cooked.

I am actually married to a mexican woman. 2 things prevail in my household...

1) Don't mess with her family
2) Stay out of the kitchen!

When we married, I was a svelt 220, now, to embarrased to tell you... But I'm happy.

Definitely ITALIAN!! That's one of the few things I miss about New York state - the real Italian restaurants.

It's the way some cook their food (using lard, fatty oils, deep frying everything, etc...) and drinking lots of pure cane sugar Coke, lots of flour tortillas, etc..

Many Mexicans do not cook that way - they use olive oil and never do the things mentioned above.

I think some folks are confusing Cinco de Mayo (My-o) with Cinco de Mayo (May-o) which would be five heaping cups of mayonnaise on top of whatever concoction you are eating. That is fat inducing, the holiday Cinco De Mayo is not.

There was a lady who owned an Italian restaurant in Long Beach, CA (Mama Tina's Cucina) that used to cook for Pope Paul VI. Long Beach is 50 miles from my house but my wife and I would drive there 2-3 times a year just for dinner. During Grand Prix time, a lot of the drivers would go there with their crews. New York doesn't have the lock on Italian food!

Luckily, they opened a really good one the next city over. But I agree with stellaluna, nothing comes close to Mexican food - authentic Mexican food. Not the Taco Bell, Del Taco, Acapulco, El Torrito (ie, chain "Mexican" restaurants) garbage but comida verdadera estila Mexicana.

Yeah, it seems to have been a popular topic even amongst the traditional Afro-Caribbean singers, as in 'Maaayo. Ma-ay-ay-ay-o. Daylight come and me wanta go home....'

Good thing the whole month is Mayo. Otherwise these comments might seem dated. But let's hear it for one of America's (and the Carribean's[;)]) favorite food spreads!

I prefer to celebrate April 21st. But Cinco de Mayo is much like St. Patricks day. One day we are all Irish, another day we are all Mexican. Just looking for a reason to party
