Does anyone on here read Joyce Meyer books

earthless -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/6/2008 6:17:19 PM)

I don't recommend anyone that cares about Scripture to do so.

evryknee -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/6/2008 8:34:53 PM)

I've heard mixed reviews - from "this has really helped me" to "she is about health, wealth & prosperity." I haven't read any, but I find it curious that she has a book on people pleasing and yet there is a big picture of her on the front cover.

Priceless

earthless -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/6/2008 8:45:28 PM)

We have an entire thread HERE chuck full of video, audio, written documentation that shows Meyer's teachings are abhorrent and many times heretical.

She is classic Word of Faith (New Age/Occultism repackaged for Christian consumption) and teaches that if you do not believe that Jesus did NOT atone for sin on the cross, you are not saved, there is no hope for you.

I advise any Christian to study and test all things in light of Scripture.

grantob -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/6/2008 10:50:46 PM)

Yes and I love her cd tapes. I enjoy the tapes and learn a lot from them than i do reading the books.

sunshine4God -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/6/2008 11:20:53 PM)

I have a book by her called "Battlefield of the mind'' and really enjoyed it.I sometimes watch her on tv as well and find her to be really encouraging.

ladyvw -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 11:32:26 AM)

I also have battlefield of the mind and it is very encouraging, maybe we can get together one day and dicuss it.

ladyvw -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 11:42:03 AM)

I also enjoy watching Joyce Meyer on television and listening to her cds, I think that she speaks in a way that is simple and easy to understand.

earthless -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 11:50:23 AM)

It simply baffles me that self-professing Christians would continue to listen to her teachings when they are chuck full of heresies and out of context Scripture abuse.

StephK -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 12:05:32 PM)

I tried to read one of her first books, don't remember which one and I couldn't get through it because of how it was written. It was choppy, it didn't flow and was written like she speaks. So that cured me from reading her books. That was of course before the truth of the WOF teachings was readily known. I wouldn't recommend her today based on her theology or lack of it I should say.

earthless -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 12:16:59 PM)

Exactly, Stephanie. And don't get me wrong, my wife was highly involved with Joyce Meyer back in the late 90's/early 2000's because of my MIL's position in the international Word of Faith TV/conference circuit.

I have read and studied Joyce's teachings for nine years now and yes she does have some nuggets of wisdom in her teachings, no doubt. BUT because of her heretical beliefs regarding the atonement of sin on the cross by Jesus (lack thereof), her Word of Faith (name it and claim/health & wealth gospel), a Christian should not seek her out as a Christian/spiritual adviser.

Reading her books for anything good is akin to a Christan reading Eckhart Tolle for spiritual advice or Deepok Chopra.

StephK -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 12:27:40 PM)

I attended one of her conferences years ago and it was not what I expected. After that I really didn't keep up with her like before. It wasn't bad so much as it just wasn't up to the hype. Nor was it spiritually uplifting as other conferences I had attended over the years given by sound and solid ministries.

teaspoon61 -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 1:07:30 PM)

I have only one book by her. It's a daily devotional called, "Ending Your Day Right". I've had it for 2 years & I have found that I like this devotional book.
Her scripture quotes in it are mostly from The Amplified Bible. (Until this devoitional book I had not heard of that version.) I usually look up the scripture refrenced for the days devotion in my own Bible, the NIV. This helps me to understand the context.

I checked out the other forum earthless sited in post #5. Although I don't have time today to read all of it, it's definately given me something to consider whether or not I would read one of her other books.

alias007 -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 1:58:30 PM)

I've read a couple of her books, and listened to some of her tapes, and I have never heard her say anything that was not in line with the Scripture. Granted I have not read everything she has ever written or heard all her sermons, but thus far, her materials have been helpful to me.
And as for having her picture on the book, that doesn't really bother me. I guess I just see it as a recognition thing, most of her fans would instantly recognize her face, so it just seems like a practical marketing tool to me.

.... and now you have been provided with a thread that is chuck full of documentation that shows how her teachings are problematic and heretical at some points. No excuse for anyone reading this thread anymore.

No offense, but I see a lot of opinion and no links to documented proof that she's a heretic. That's a pretty heavy accusation. You should really provide more than just your opinion. Please provide specific instances where she preaches in direct opposition to Scripture.

I've never read anything by her, never heard her preach. But if you're going to accuse somebody of heresy you should show irrefutable proof.

Kath -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 3:42:05 PM)

The OP asked if one has read her books. Lets not turn this thread into another topic on her in general. Lets stick to the books, and discuss them. Thank you.

If one wishes to read up on Joyce Meyer or participate in a discussion on her teachings in general please do so in the proper thread here<--link

grantob -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 9:03:02 PM)

I have been listening to Joyce's tapes and have been blessed. I have shared her tapes with many women and their lives have changed. Reading the many mean-spirited remarks have made me realize why so many people have a bad opioion of christians. I have been a Christian for 30 years and always amazed how Christians treat each other.

treasure_above -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 10:56:07 PM)

I highly recommend her books and ministry. Her dedication is remarkable! Her material is helpful to both my family and hundreds of people that I know.

That would be awesome! I have never met anyone on here in real life ya know.

treasure_above -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 11:06:54 PM)

Battlefield of the mind is a great book! I bought the tapes many years ago and listened to it over and over again until I could think better. She uses practical life application and scriptures. You can tell she's speaking from experience and can relate to so many people. I'm greatful to God that He raised her up and although it hasn't been easy for her, she stuck it out.

When I've had issues that I just couldn't grab the victory on my own, I'd zone into the problem, purchase a book on the subject and listen to the topics of my choice online. I don't know if the messages are still free or not but they were a lifesaver to me and my marriage!

grantob -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 11:15:51 PM)

I think it would be great to discuss Battlefield of the Mind.

funny_girl -> RE: Joyce meyer (5/7/2008 11:32:49 PM)

Battlefield of the Mind helps you to realize that our battle isn't with flesh and blood but with spiritual forces. There are so many 'mental' illnesses and people doctoring them up with medication that cover their problems like a band aid. Colossians 3 tells us to think on things that are above. The book helps you to apply the Word of God to your thinking and bring the victory to your life!!!! We are more than overcomers!

I had suffered greatly from depression, had received the best professional counseling available in my area and didn't improve with the care. What I'm saying is that all the medications and the best doctors couldn't help me, but this book did! Now, 6 years later, I'm still living a victorious life!
