Ladies and Gentlemen;

I am just finishing up my 3rd semester in an attempt to finish my college degree with a BA in vocal music. Fall 08 will be the last semester I will add much new literature before my recital in Spring.

So far my repertoire is full of a lot of "bleeding chunks"--i.e., big, technically difficult pieces. I need some light and fun art songs or arias to round out my repertoire for my recital.

But I am so very ignorant of the genre, and I need help finding some fun, comical, or light pieces suited to a very warm mezzo voice.

Can you help? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Finishing my MM in vocal performance this month and just did my graduate recital containing pieces by Purcell, Brahms, Tosti, Duparc, Hundley and Puccini. I've taught college voice for 4 years, so I have a little knowledge here.

Look for something by Bellini - typically not technically too demanding, but as a bel canto composer, it's beautiful music. You might also consider Che faro senza Euridice which is also beautiful and not terribly technically tough.

Those are just a couple of suggestions. If you have any other questions, send me a PM and I can load you up.

Thanks! I'll look for something like that. I've done Che Faro. Loved it. It will definitely be in my recital. Maybe When I am laid in earth by Purcell, too. Did that this semester.
