This thread is NOT about false prophets. We have plenty of threads on that topic. Please do not discuss false prophets in this thread. The OP has specific questions she wants answered.

Is it true that the word you receive should confirm what you already know?
Has anyone ever received a word like this?
Was it a confirmation?

The questions, as Kath has so kindly delineated once again, have inherent assumptions in them.

That is...that there IS such a thing as Prophets in this modern age...

Now, there is nothing WRONG with this assumption, as long as it is out in the open, but many post-ers have - quite logically - been trying to explain that we must be careful BEFORE assuming the validity of particular "prophets"...

so, I humbly suggest we rewrite the questions to include the hidden assumption, and thus keep any more people from "straying" off the path...

here they are (with due deference to our adjudicator, Kath)...

GIVEN that a true modern prophet exists, and is in touch with the mind of the Christian God, ....

Is it true that the word you receive should confirm what you already know?
Has anyone ever received a word like this?
Was it a confirmation?

Now... I will leave it to others to answer the question -

I agree, there are some assumptions in the OP.

quote:

That is...that there IS such a thing as Prophets in this modern age...

I guess if one does not believe that there is such a thing as Prophets in this modern age then they ought not reply.

but many post-ers have - quite logically - been trying to explain that we must be careful BEFORE assuming the validity of particular "prophets"...

I understand that and although I agree with the concern, it isn't what the OP asked for, so from what I understand TOS to say we can't take the thread off topic with warnings and such (unwelcome counsel and all that).

quote:

here they are (with due deference to our hammer, Kath)...

I have been called a lot of things, some pretty nasty, but never a hammer. :)

I am sorry for being overly jocular, and admire your restraint, Kath.

"adjudicator" is a less emotive word, I trust, and I have changed the OP to reflect that,

Thanks for all your hard work - and the purity of your reasoning cannot be denied.[:D]

SonInMe1 -> RE: a word from a Prophet/Prophetess (5/15/2008 8:25:52 AM)

A prophet gets the message from God and God's "ok" to spread that word, wether it be to a group of people or to an individaul.

It would seem to me that a word from God would not confirm what we already knew but birth in us new thoughs and directions. Getting a word from God wether directly or through another would seem to me to be life changing and something out of our personal "boxes".

How do we know it's really from God and not from a person's own mind and or a demonic source?

It will be truth. It will line up with scripture. Your Holy Spirit discernment. It will come to pass.

One thing I have noticed as well...false prophecies usually have a lot of christianese in them. Some King James words....etc.

Well said!! Although a word from God can be confirming to those who know God well, He normally used a Prophet in the OT in the way you described. It's not that the Prophet's word weren't confirming of His already revealed word... it's that the recepient of the prophecy needed to have a "birth [of] new thoughs and directions" because they weren't heeding what God had already said/revealed.

Hi I am new, on these threads. and I believe in prophets, I know one. He has given prophesy over the air, Warning about a lot of whats going on in the world to day. He reads the bible, 24/7.
I am not a prophet but I had a vision about 9-11 right down to people being under concrete. I stood under the towers a month before.
I can't get the vision out of my head. I cried for days afterwards.
Sometimes, you think it's only in your own head, and your just thinking stupid thoughts, but when it happens you keep thinking, maybe if I had of said something.

Goddy,

He, Started the first Christian radio station in my town, His name is, I don't think I can give it to you. But he is Wonderful man, he himself would never say he was a prophet, he says he is a servant of God.
He told us at prayer meets, what was going to happen in countries, around the world, actually, there were three other prophets, who also made prophesies, its very rare were you get 4 prophets prophesing, about the same things happing at the same time.
He new about the bombs in London and the rail system in china, He told us about Canada's bread basket, which is Saskawan, and about the beef, crisis and chicken flu.
He said Canada and USA are under Judgement, because the blood on the innocent is on our hands. abortion laws, gay marriages, etc. the Ten Commandment, replaces by man consitution.
Any time he said judgement is past, there is bad weather, then the food basket, which is were wheat, and grass burns up or the growing fields, are two wet to grow in. I don'tpretend to know about this stuff but as you see he wasn't wrong, that was about 10 years ago he said this stuff.
He new about Katrina, storm of the century, the next one will be worse.
He has been right. Canada, has yet to be hit as bad as the states.
Revelation is unfolding, before our eye's. I believe he is for real

The Prairie farmers, in Canada, have had some of the worst weather conditions, which is our bread basket so to speak, we have had mad cow decease, all of the fowl, from chickens, to turkey's. carry something called the bird flu. I have stuff written out, I will dig it out and post it for you. I want to make sure I give it to you correctly. ok
