I constantly get a pop-up that says, File is too large! But the file is less than 145 x 145. Why can't I get an off-site avatar?

Check the program you are using to resize it. Most have a way to reduce the picture quality when you resize it.

If I take a picture on the highest-quality setting my camera has, the file is too big no matter how small I make it. I have to reduce the quality as well to get it under 10k.

This is all Greek to me!!! I didn't know my camera had any other setting than highest quality. I'm not sure what that means. I'll see if I can figure out that 10k thing.

my computer comes with a good one on it (it's an HP computer)...so I use that. You can also use some online....free downloadable or just online. HERE is one just online, HERE is one free downloadable...or you can purchase a more in depth program if you want to do more then just resizing. I know a lot of people have "Photoshop"

I have something called Photoshop Elements, it's a more basic program of Photoshop and is much more reasonably priced.

being a pc dummy, I still cannot resize my pics, I tried in Gimp. i thouhgt I had it, till this site said too large!

Help, I want to put up a pic.

Ok, I got it, whew, they should keep some people away from pcs!

Mine uploads just fine (all three of them I have tried), but I have yet to be able to see any of them either as picture or avatar. I have hit apply and ok after the up load, but still no avatar. [:(]

I know I must be doing something wrong...but don't know what.

Tim, I had a similar problem once, and it was the file type.

What is the extension on the file you are trying to upload?

I think they have to be .jpeg or .gif

Maybe save the file as .jpeg (if it isn't) and try that.

One of the reasons I up loaded three files was because when the jpg didn't display, I went to a gif. I also resized them to well below the 450X450, and under 10 kb...(in fact they range between 3.7 and 5.1 kb), nor were any of them animated gif files (though I have seen one avatar that used one).

It needs to be below 145x145 and 10k

the picture on your profile page needs to be below 290 X 290 and 10k

Sorry, just washed my hands and can't type a THING with them... typo on my part they are all under 145x145
60X70, 145X68, 77X53 and 95X143 to be exact.

What are you clicking *after* you upload?

If you are clicking "apply" try clicking "okay" and vice versa.

I click apply first then OK...cuz if I click OK then the window goes away before I can hit apply. [8|]

Hmmmm. Those are the only problems I ever had with avatars and profile pictures.

I'm stumped.

Maybe someone else will be able to think of something else to try.

sometimes if the file is slightly over 10k but not quite 11k yet then it won't upload for me...so try cutting it down to below 10k

The problem is that they upload just fine, they just don't appear in the places that everyone else's appear.

Apparently I had sized them too small...I tried sizing them up so the largest dimension was between 140 and 145 and suddenly I had an Avatar. [sm=dance.gif][sm=dance.gif]
