I have heard many a sermon on how the money spent on makeup and nicer clothing could go to help missionaries.

All my nice clothes were hand-me-downs, so I'm off the hook. [8D]

Hello everyone!

1 Timothy 2:9-10
9likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, 10 but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.

1 Peter 3:3-4
3 Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.

These texts are basically saying the same thing. Your beauty should not depend on how you look on the outside, but it should depend on who you are on the inside. I'm sure everyone here would agree with that. But I do not think jewelry in of itself is a sin. To be quite honest, I like jewelry myself. I'm not a big makeup person though. But I do like jewelry, probably like most women. But I do not depend on that for my beauty. Some people do. I'm sure you all came across women who wear jewelry all over their bodies like crazy. I see women with rings on all 5 fingers of both hands. I have truly seen that. I think that is what the text is saying no too. I don't believe the texts are saying, do not wear any jewelry at all.

Just like some of you said, tasteful.

Your sister in Christ Jesus,
Jessica

Can you believe pretty little bras were once less than $2?

I just bought my daughters their first training bras, and they were just over $4 for two of them. You can still find good deals out there. [:)]
Your daughters are wearing training bras already??!!?!?!

Oy.

I suddenly feel old.

Weren't they still babies just yesterday?

John_O -> RE: Should Christian Women wear makeup, jewelry, nice shoes & clothes? (5/15/2008 4:42:25 PM)

Long ago when M and I were going through some hard financial times I had to give up beer to save the money.

One day I came home and found she had spent a bunch of money on clothes and make-up. I was livid "You spent this much!!? You know money is tight!"

"But Honey" she said "This is all to make me look beautiful to you"

I said "That's what the beer's for!"

It was three days before I saw my wife again. After that I could see her just a little bit out of my left eye as the swelling went down.

(And of course the above is entirely fabricated. But the joke just fit so well here)

Yeah, my oldest two daughters, ages ten and eight, are growing breasts already. [&:] I know they got that from my husband's side of the family--they all hit puberty early.

Oh John-O, Oh John-O, how you can love
Oh John-O, Oh John-O, heavens above
You make my sad heart jump for joy
And when you're near I just can't - sit still a minute!
I'm so.. Oh John-O, Oh John-O, please tell me do
What makes me love you so,
You're not handsome it's true, but when I look at you,
I just.. Oh John-O, Oh John-O, Oh!...

I've decided to vote that Christian women should wear clothes. I don't care about the rest.

SonInMe1 -> RE: Should Christian Women wear makeup, jewelry, nice shoes & clothes? (5/16/2008 11:08:28 AM)

...and some women can dress in burlap and turn heads.

I didn;t have a problem with my daughter wearing some make-up and as long as her clothes were somewhat modest...no problem. My wife thinks I am a prude but I don't see boobs hanging out as....cute.

Maybe its just me.

Just for your edification [:D] it's an old song. I have no idea how old, but I think it was before my time. The "John-O" was actually "Johnny" in the song.

Oh! A World War I song, written by Ed Rose (lyrics) and Abe Olman (music) in 1917.

There ya' go!

I'll tell you what turns heads. It's driving in a car that has the sway bar or some other part (I don't know for sure if that's the right name for it) broken in the back that clanks and bangs when you drive down the road. Everyone just stops and stares. Maybe if I wore burlap I'd turn even more heads! [:D]
