We just cashed in part of DH's retirement for home renovations...new carpeting, new flooring in the dining room and kitchen, repair to the front porch, etc.... However...in my head, I have spent this money about 10...or a thousand times...on quite frivolous things. SOOOoooo, my question is: You have been given $10,000, how do you spend it? disclaimer...we are spending the money as we planned...I am talking about if you didn't HAVE to spend it on necessities...

Okay, I would buy a new wardrobe of sorts...at least several new outfits with shoes and assessories to match. (maybe one or two for dh also) I want a plasma tv to go above our mantle. A new set of living room furniture in leather. DD a new bedroom set, and redecorate room to match. Last but not least...a golf cart to cruise around the neiborhood in..... teeheee, a far stretch from the reality, isn't it????

New or newer used car. We are still debating on whether or not to get a bigger one. My current one is hard for me to get out of when I'm pregnant and would work for around the town stuff, but long distance I'm not sure we could do with two kids, our stuff and their stuff. We are stuffed right now with all the stuff. But you can't compete with 38 miles to the gallon.

We've been round and round debating this question lately, and right now ours would be to pay off all debt except for our house- we had a new AC unit put in in Jan, and we have 12 months to pay that off interest free, we would pay off our car early, and that would pretty much take care of that money. Now if we weren't using it to pay off debt, we would: Finish redoing our living room- paint, entertainment center, furniture, larger tv Get a nicer frame for our bed Probably get my hubby a new desk

I would use it for my house. I am sure that anyone who lives in a house that they didn't have built themselves can burn throught that in a heartbeat. I know we could.

If I had an extra 10,000, I'd either buy dh a Harley Davidson motorcycle, a new bedroom suite, or would save it back to buy a new home.

You have been given $10,000, how do you spend it? Fun question! Well, we just bought a new couch and loveseat for our next rental place so we don't need those. But when we move into our new house at the end of the year we will need furniture for our den. Sooo, I would use that money to buy a comfy contemporary sectional, book shelves, more books, a roll top desk, a wardrobe for my crafts, a table for plants, a bunch of plants, a new coffee table and side tables, and a couple of nice lamps. I would also buy a new BBQ since ours will be too big for our new place. I would buy wooden blinds for all of our windows. I would buy a few canvases and make my own paintings. I know this wouldn't cost $10,000 so I guess I would use the rest to go on a few nice vacations.

We have budgeted $10,000 to use to fix up our house when we finally buy it. I've been thinking and thinking and thinking about what I will do with a house. Here is what we have decided will be done before we move in: -new floors downstairs -new kitchen - counters, cupboards, floor...all new! I want to lay it out the way I want it. -paint all the rooms -finish the basement (if not already finished) -put in a library (floor to ceiling shelving on two or three of walls, a desk and a comfy chair to read in) -update bathrooms We're hoping to buy a fixer upper, because we have great plans for just the house we want. And I'm sure it seems like a lot, but my BIL has a home renovation business so he, Dh and their other brothers can do the house together and we don't have to pay labour!

Ok Lexie, what if you find a house that has already been all fixed up and just needs some fresh paint and redecorating? Then how would you spend it? We just sold our house and while we lived here, we replaced the windows, flooring, bathroom, the kitchen was already done and the basement already had a finished room. But I did learn one thing while living here. We also replaced the heating and air conditioning systems. When we get into our new house, we are NOT going to put carpeting in our basement or finish off the walls. Our current basement doesn't leak, but it is a basement and no matter what, you can't escape the dampness that you get in the summer months, and that smell just hangs on in the carpeting. But I have so many plans for our new house and WISH I was starting out with 10K to work with. But we are going to do things little by little. Necessary things first, then flooring. Other than the flooring, I am not going to change anything but maybe the paint when I figure out exactly what colors I would like to have.

Well....so far, we have bought a new sofa and chair...and a 32" plasma television...the rest is on hold for carpeting, but it did feel good to buy the furniture. It should be delivered this Saturday!

It should be delivered this Saturday! We are putting some money aside for a new bed when we move. We have decided to try a sleep number bed because we want a king size bed, and after shopping around, we found that they are no more expensive, and in some cases cheaper than regular mattress and boxspring sets.

Tracy, The sleep number bed will be our next bed too. This past December we bought a new king mattress and box springs (high dollar name brand) and I still have "hot spots" in my hips and shoulders.

$10,000??? Sahweet. First, I'd have to tithe on it, so then I'm down to $9,000. But hey, I can do lots with that. I would probably end up just saving it for my future wedding because I know my parents won't be able to afford it. Haha!

I think this is the set of furniture we got...or it is very similar. We got the sofa and what is call a chair and a half. It is like a small love seat.
