ORIGINAL: FREELUTH http://teardownthehighplaces.blogspot.com/ Another LCMS Pastor not happy about the direction the synod is heading !!! Any Thoughts ??? It seems that the cancelation of Issues Ect. on KFUO radio was the straw that broke the camels back for many in the Synod. I did listen to the show alot and it was awesome. Sorry to see it gone. Actually, that's me, but I'm not a pastor. I'm a layperson, but I do host and produce a radio show in Brevard county Florida. I often get caught up in lots of work for the show as well as my full time job, so I haven't been able to get back to this post in a while. I used to be a moderator around for a long time. I left here for the longest time and wound up doing radio. The reason I brought up "calvinists and arminians" is because the discussions sometimes seem as though that's the debate that is going on more often then not around here. I've tried a couple of times to get into those conversations and try to bring a Lutheran Perspective to them, but more often than not I'm misunderstood by the people involved, which is shame. I seem to be better understood in person than on these forums. We don't consider ourselves a "denomination". We're a "synod", which means walking together. We hold to the Book of Concord as our confession of Faith, which says many of the things that Evangelicals would agree with and understand, namely who Jesus Christ is, the inerrancy of scripture... So it's more accurate to talk about confessional Lutheranism in the same discussion as Calvinism or Arminianism. Or at least I would hope so. Either way, I'm glad to see there's some other LCMS Lutherans here. I recently joined the church by way of membership myself, but was attending for a long time before that. Hopefully I'll be able to get back to this forum more often. I agree. We are a synod, not a denomination. The only "Lutheran" synod that I wouldn't really call Lutheran is the ELCA. Only because they condone activities/behaviors that the Bible doesn't. They don't hold the Bible to be the Inerrant Word of God like those who are in the LCMS, or any other Confessional Lutheran Synod, who hold to the Book of Concord as their confession of faith. Anyway, welcome to the LCMS. I am a new member/convert myself, who just came out of the Roman Catholic Church. I just made my profession of faith/confirmation last Sunday, on Trinity Sunday. Your sister in Christ Jesus, Jessica Hello Jessica I have only a few moments (Jessica why did you become part of the LCMS?) New member of what? What is the definition of a convert? Roman Catholic fathers... what of them, what of the faithful followers of Christ Jesus in the Roman Catholic Church, are you converting/turning your face from them. Not convert something else maybe rethinking is a better word. PeterD Maybe convert wasn't the nicest choice of words. More like, it is returning back to the 1st 500 years of Christianity, the original catholic church, before the Mary and Saint stuff started to creep in. There are very catholic elements in Lutheran worship. We are Catholic because of the Historical creeds, worship, and sacramentalism, and we are Evangelical because of our trust in the good news of Christ, that in His cross he has saved us by sheer grace for a life of Christian freedom. Your sister in Christ Jesus, Jessica
