Yes. It was mistaken and misplaced anger but it was anger nonetheless.
As an example, anger is one of the stages of grief.
Sometimes we are angry at the one who has left us.
Sometimes we're angry at our circumstances.
But sometimes we are angry at God for having "taken our loved one away".
It is vitally important to recognize who we are specifically angry with and have a sincere heart to heart about it with God. If we deny our anger because it's "wrong", there can never be any moving beyond it.
But, having once recognized that we were actually angry with our Creator, it is to be hoped that we will have a much more rational response in the future which causes us to run to Jesus rather than rail at God.

Well you and I both know this is nitpicking. However, to reverse nitpick, a person who does not truly know Him is a poor soul and God understands their anger much better than we can and it does not suprise Him.

I have to say there is one thing that people say repeatedly here that sets me on edge...when people imply Gpd is a big boy and he can handle our anger. Those of us who are christians should be moving toward gratitude, not ingratitude and complaining. Is God our punching bag? Why do I say this?
Remember moses? The scripture says that moses was the most humblest man on the face of the earth but when he got angry and struck the rock it was for that reason that he was not allowed to enter the promised land. His anger in that situation caused him to pay a heavy price. Paul later says in his letter that the rock was christ.
"And all drank the same spiritual drink for they drank from the spiritual rock which followed them, and THE ROCK WAS CHRIST." (I Corinthians 10:4)
So perhaps Yahweh was offended at moses actions because moses stricking the rock in anger was symbolic of striking christ. Which brings me back to a point that I made earlier...is Jesus sometimes hurt by our out bursts of anger? In my opinion I think he is because if the Holy Spirit can be grieved it only stands to reason that Christ can also.
David may have gotten angry but I honestly don't see long rants toward the deity in the psalms. sharing his heart and what's troubling him yes, but the jews reverenced the Lord so much they wouldn't even dare pronounce his name. That's why Job's wife said, "curse God and die." They knew that they best be careful about how they talk to the Holy One.
