lightshineon -> Was it telling of Obamas' arrogance to ignore West Virginia? (5/14/2008 8:22:28 AM)

Does it matter he just dismissed them, like they were carnage? I happen to think it was arrogant and telling of his really caring for people. Your thoughts on this? Do you think this hurt he campaign? I do, but I keep hearing different things, yes it hurt him, no it did not. Your kind thoughts. Remember nobody needs to get defensive, I value your opinion, or would not ask. I heard they said, they know the type of voters they appeal to, and the white, low income working class is not it. It is the AA vote, or higher income, educated white person. Now who does he have a heart for? That is disturbing, he is a snob, IMHO.[sm=nosestuckup.gif]

Candidates don't campaign in states where they have no chance. Simple economics and common sense.

Well if acted like they mattered maybe he would have had a chance.

But Sen. Obama has money to burn and his refusal to campaign can be interpreted as a snub to the state and what the demographic there represents throughout the rest of the country.

Will make zero difference come November. The states that matter are the "contested" states. Fact of life. Some blame the Electoral College, but I don't know whether it would change without it.

What is means obviously is that the people love Hillary and want her to keep fighting every last inch of the way, to the convention and beyond if neccesary.

lightshineon -> RE: Was it telling of Obamas' arrogance to ignore West Virginia? (5/14/2008 10:50:51 AM)

I think it was not a smooth move on Obamas part. It is an attitude perception, is why it was important.

Finally..... somebody gets it. Plus, Obama hasn't agreed to pay her campaign debt, yet.

In Heaven, the promotional campaign slogan is "Almost West Virginia". That would be a bit of regional humor that you "northerners" might not get (actually most of what is now West Virginia was likely populated by Yankees during the War of Northern Aggression).

IOW, poor white Southerners aren't important to Mr. Change.

Agreed. It would be fool-hardy of Obama to spend millions on advertising when the polls were already giving Hillary an 80% win margin. It's not like he didn't visit the state at all. I wouldn't have spent much time or money in a state with those odds.

He campaigned in Alabama.
No one ever campaigns much in Kentucky. Why not?

Alabama is much more affluent and probably has more blacks than WVA. I can't speak for Kentucky.

He seems to be one of the most arrogant, snobbish individuals I've ever seen or heard - right up there with Teddy Kennedy and John "Viet Nam War Hero" Kerry. Probably associating with common working people leaves a bad taste in his mouth. Like those in small town Pennsylvania, they probably cling to their religion and their guns.

Kentucky is poorer than W. Va. and has an unemployment rate higher than the national average. It has the least number of high school graduates than any other state. I don't know the racial makeup of WVa but I heard that KY is less than 10% minority and is predominantly rural.

The question is for the OP and others, would you vote for him had he gone to W. Va?

I have to agree with cow451 on this one.

I won't vote for him, regardless of where he campaigns. I just found out (though I'm not surprised) he has a 100% approval rate from NARAL. One hundred per cent. That's like winning the SuperBowl for an ol' baby-vacuumer like Obama.

If that is the main issue as a voter, one may wish to consider that NARAL has supported Hilary Clinton through out her career. The parting of the ways was only to back Obama.

Something to consider if that is the swing issue for a voter.

Yup. Yup.

In other states, Sen. Obama was willing to spend even when Hillary had him soundly beaten in the polls. Suddenly, he can't exert any effort?
