While I did like Prince Caspian I liked LWW better. I agree that the battles were too drawn out and the scences at the end of the movie seemed to be rushed. I also wished they would have put in the dancing tree part from the book.

PhrozenPhoenix you need to read the Last Battle, everyone including the professor(magicians Nephew) make it back except Susan, Theres a reason and I dont want to spoil it for anyone who doesnt know the story. Amyk I agree with the battles did seem a bit boring. I love a good sword fight. I think Peters and the Queen in Lion was better than His with the King. Over all it was a good flick.

About Peter attacking Caspian, you have to remember that during Peter's time (LWW time) minotaurs were evil. Minotaurs were present when Aslan was killed. Minotaurs were on the side of the White Witch. The first person Peter saw in that scene was a minotaur..not a centaur or someone who might have put him at ease. They explained earlier that 'my enemies enemy is my friend' when meeting the minotaur. Peter was also in a very hostile (constantly shot at/attacked) area and needed to (or felt the need to) protect his younger siblings. When in a sudden and surprising situation everyone takes steps to protect themselves first. I did feel that they did an interesting job making Peter more haughty and knight-like in this one than in the book. It would be hard to move from a position of authority back to being a teen. The knights and ladies concept of honor is a bit different than our modern practical sensibility as well. It also was part of the main theme: Peter's need to make his own mistakes and develop his faith in Aslan (ditto for Susan) as an independent and active person. There were a lot of changes in Lewis' story but I wasn't too dismayed. They did a good job cutting down the narrative problems in Prince Caspian (telling the backstory for page upon page and spending too much time in the woods). I thought they worked with Lewis' theme of faith, independence, and growing up. Some of the extras were unnecessary but the pace was just right for the grade school crowd.

My 2 cents.... 1. Love it!! 2. lack of blood was good for a family movie but almost made it cheesy for adults (not that I am a big fan of gore, but when you decapitate someone and the next frame has the helmet rolling by... clean... it looks like you knocked his hat off and thats all) 3) Lucy smiling with the knife, I think the problem was the way the scene was interpreted, you see her pull a knife, smile then reveal Aslan is standing behind her. To me it was like a 2nd grader facing down the school bully because her big brother was behind her. To put a Biblical spin on it, a yound David running at Golioth because he knew the God of Israel had his back. 4. Try peaceful resolutions before resort to blood shed. The narnians had been beat to near extenction (sp?), the Uncle was not about to sit down and have high tea (since Lewis was British, sounds like a Brit thing to do) with his enemies. While I agree it sounds nice ... just not plausable. The Pivences walked into a boiling point that would have been made worse if they had walked into the Telmarine council chambers and said they were the rightful Kings and Queens, that would have really torqued off the council if they had ANOTHER threat to the throne I loved the fact that Lucy was the only one who was searching for Aslan and shes the one that found him. I also loved the scene (mentioned earlier) where Aslan asked her why she let others doubt stop her from seeking him. ******* SPOILER********* I will type a line of text just so the spoiler will not appear with a blank spot above it so that it doesn't jump out at anyone who doesn't want to read the spoiler, there, I think I have wasted enough space to type the spoiler.... Did anyone else notice the forshadowing of Susan at the beginning of the movie when she was talking about how they should get used to London and Narnia was just a one time thing that was fun while it lasted? I wondered if Lewis wasn't setting her up for the last book, but I have also read that he never really intended for the books to be a series, he just wrote them thinking that when he finished each book, he was done.

A couple of things: The "decapitation" is just a helmet rolling by after a wicked blow. There is no head in it. I am about 99% sure that I do not see a head. Good answers to the questions above. Nobody thought Miraz would try to kill Caspian when he had a son. It was a secret plot known only to Miraz and maybe a few others. Nobody on the "good" side would kill a baby, anyway. As written above, the White Witch is a "devil" figure. everythingat answered this question superbly. Peter and Susan can't come back again because they are "too old". This is what is written in the book, but the movie expands a little and has Aslan say that they have learned everything Narnia had to teach them. everythingat also answered well about the various entrances into Narnia. Basically, they are very rare and can only be used a few times before they close. They are the "cracks between worlds". In The Magician's Nephew, it is revealed that almost all entrances are gone. As for the trees, they are the spirits of the forest, which had fallen asleep but were awoken by Aslan. The Telmarines were scared of the forest, if you recall from the movie and book. Also, think back to the LWW and the dream/vision Lucy has in this movie. Do remember the swirling flowers and petals that would coalesce into a human form? These are the dryads, the spirits of the trees. The White Witch had "bad" trees working for her in LWW, but in the intervening 1,300 years they all fell asleep, much in the way that the feral bear Lucy encounters has "forgotten" how to speak. I hope this further illuminates your understanding of Narnia.

We went Thursday and it is AWESOME. The story is fast paced and so is the action. It doesn't have as much of a "in your face" message as the first....or maybe we saw it easier because it was so discussed. But it has a good message about not waiting for help....and fixing things on our own. It was definitely worth the wait. A summer must!!!

I've seen "Caspian" 2 times now and for a PG movie it has lot's of great action. I like this film more than the first which was good.

Just saw this movie yesterday. It was great! My husband and I both enjoyed it, but we agreed we liked the first one better. But it's definitely worth going to see if you enjoyed LWW.

I have been a fan of the Chronicles of Narnia for a long time and Prince Caspian was always my favorite, so I was excited to see it made into a movie. Maybe, given how much I loved the book, I should have been prepared to be disapointed. I did not like the changes. Or at least not many of them. I did not mind the change in the time line thing at the start. That was just to make it flow better and I understood that. What I really disliked is how they changed Peter's character. How they made him so angry and full of himself. He was not that way at all in the book. Most of that is not in the book. For example Peter and Caspian never fight in the book. They had no conflict as to who would be King after defeating Miraz. It was all about putting Caspian on the throne. Also the attack and deaths at Miraz castle is not in the book. I will have to go back and look, but I dont think that the whole business with Lucy and Aslan at the bridge is there either. Also, the children encounter Aslan WAY earlier in the book and when they fight they are basically acting under Aslans orders. However, I do agree with the others who say it is a picture of the battle of good vs. evil and good cannot compromise with evil, or it ceases to be good. You point out that no one is completely good or evil (in a later reply) that is true in the real world, but you have to remember this is fiction and it was originally intended to be read by children. Think about the fairy tales you grew up with there are no grey areas in those stories either. For example in Sleeping Beauty the prince does not negotiate with the witch he slays her. I am unsure if I should watch Dawn Treader when it come out. If they can change Caspian so much and add way more violence than they can do it to Dawn Treader too. I will have to look at the reviews very carefully, not just to see if they like it but what kinds of changes were made.

Finally saw it last night. sigh ~~~~~SPOILERS~~~~~~~~~ I really liked it, and so did everyone I was with. I was honestly hoping Peter or Caspian killed Miraz in the bed chambers, let alone during the duel. I liked seeing Peter humbled even though he made a HUGE mistake with the first battle. I felt bad but he needed to lose a bit of his arrogance. I loved the scene with Lucy on the bridge. I couldn't help but grin because she was like David with the slingshot. She knew she couldn't lose because of who was on her side. Isn't that the kind of confidence God wants us to have anyway? That we can do anything with Him by our side? The little romance between Susan and Caspian was cute and I wish something could have developed there. Oh well. And I LOVED that Edmund was the one to kill the White Witch! How fitting was that??? grin

LOVED IT!!!! Important lessons I learned: 1) Keep your own PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP tight! Lucy had an intimate relationship with Aslan (Christ) and need not depend on anyone else. 2) Wait on the LORD! Peter's premature attack cost many lives. He should have waited on Aslan. 3) Don't mess with the dark side! Caspian almost fell with the wrong side of power. Edmund knew that all too well! 4) Keep a childlike faith! Lucy knew what to do.

Once we got past the sticker shock of the price of a ticket...we loved it. We have read the entire series at least twice. It was interesting to us that the body language of the "children" turned very stately or kingly once they were "dressed" for Narnia. We were only whimisically hoping that Caspian's teacher would've had a larger role because of his parentage and how that was pretty cool in the book. My favorite part? Lucy asks the dwarf at the end, "Do you see Him now?" [:D][:D] that was great! Can't wait to see Reepicheep in Dawn Treader!
