VisitorinWaiting -> Love songs... (5/14/2008 2:26:16 PM)

My husband and I will be celebrating our 6th anniversary next month. He is planning on getting a boat sometime before the end of this month...a great deal on a used one from a man in town. Lord willing, we will be spending our anniversary sailing around somewhere...maybe get lost (LOL)! Anyway, I was wanting to have something special to do on the boat since it doesn't have a lot of cabin space or a kitchen or anything... So, my thought was to make a CD with a lot of love songs on it that we can play while we are on there...just relaxing by or something... I haven't looked into downloading music in a long time... Here are the questions...

* Is there a free, legal way to download music from the internet these days? If so, please point me in the right direction.

* Any suggestions for good love songs... I'm sure I won't be able to think up enough on my own to fill a whole CD.

Garth Brooks -- Your Song
Bee Gees -- Wedding Day
John Denver -- For Baby (For Bobby)
Don Henley -- Heart of the Matter
The Pretenders -- I'll Stand By You
Elton John -- Can You Feel the Love Tonight

I could go on, but that's a good start.

Dusty

Congratulations on the Anniversary!

I can't help you out with any free music download websites. However, Walmart and Amazon both have sites that allow you to download songs for a small fee. Walmart charges $0.94 per song. And of course there's always iTunes.
As far as some song suggestions, I have plenty of those[:)]

If you are a country fan:
Long Trip Alone- Dierks Bentley
One Friend- Dan Seals
Carried Away- George Strait
You Are- Jimmy Wayne
Home to You- John Michael Montgomery
When You Say Nothing at All- Keith Whitley
Right Here- Mark Wills
Forever and Ever, Amen- Randy Travis
Chances Are- Bob Seger and Martina McBride

If you aren't a country fan:
Collide- Howie Day
I Don't Know How I Got By- Edwin McCain
Only Hope- Switchfoot (or Mandy Moore if you prefer her version)
You and Me- Lifehouse
Feels Like Home- Chantal Kreviazuk
23- Jimmy Eat World
Don't Wait- Dashboard Confessional

All of these are great songs to add to my list. Thank you all for the suggestions and keep 'em coming.

BUT I don't have access to these without the info of having a place that is a free, legal way to download them.
I will try Wal-Mart, as someone suggested...but if I pay about $1 for each song...and you can get A LOT of songs on a CD, then it's going to end up being pricey...which money is a tight thing around here right now...even $20 is hard to come by....

The best way is to borrow music either from friends/library... you can burn the songs you want to hear to a cd... and then you'll have a cd of love songs that you like!

If you have time... check out the artist's websites ... many of them offer a free song ever so often. Or just take along a radio.

If you are going to be on a boat for more than two days - take along something to read/games to play... because one cd won't be enough to past the free time!

There is a site which can make MP3s from YouTube songs; HOWEVER, I'm not sure of the legality of that since You Tube is put up by 3rd parties, usually not the artists themselves.

You can do some research on free downloads. Many artists offer a few of their songs free that way, so if you have some favorite artists I would check that out.

You can ask for help from people you know in real life (who have physical copies).

Ideas:
I Want You to be My Love (Over the Rhine)
True Companion (Marc Cohn)
Power of Two (Indigo Girls)
Let's Stay Together (Al Green)

I have been going through the list, reading the lyrics...keeping some, throwing out some... Some that I've never heard before just make me smile and feel all warm inside... ah...funny how music and words can do that to a person. Anyhow, just wanted to say thanks so far...and if you could include some more songs sang by women, that would be helpful...most of the songs I have on my list are sang by men...

Keeper of the Stars, Tracey Byrd (male)

This is actually so much fun. It's so hard to pull myself away from the computer looking up songs. I am so anxious now to make the CD and see his reaction to it...and how nice it will be to listen to those songs looking at the stars while floating on the water...ah...how nice........ Thanks...and keep 'em coming...
