Fritzpw_Admin -> PetBots - Q&A (5/15/2008 1:41:23 PM)

We've started to test the PetBots for chat.

This thread will serve as a Q&A for that project.

Please keep that in mind when you make your posts here.

I'd rather it not be used for idle chit chat or playing around.

This thread will need to be the treasure trove of all PetBot owners in the future.

Aussie_Mod -> RE: PetBots - Q&A (5/15/2008 10:26:18 PM)

if you teach it to welcome {owner} it changes the title of the owner from mod to admin.

bootsNspurs_mod -> RE: PetBots - Q&A (5/16/2008 1:57:30 AM)

Question 1: When I tell Joe to come, or when i come into the room, he publicly greets me with "checking owner routine 5426... found bootsNspurs_mod!" and then does the command that I told him to.

Question 2: Joe is programmed so that when I say "Hey Joe!", he will give me a hug. I see that command in his list correctly. Joe is also programmed so that when anyone else says Joe, he will think "Why are you talking to me??". This is not working... He is not recognizing it when I say Hey Joe! at all... but, whenever I say Joe, he is responding witht he command that is he supposed to use when anyone else says his name. But when another chatter says his name, he ignores them.

I sussed out thats a programming error..... It can be fixed.

bootsNspurs_mod -> RE: PetBots - Q&A (5/16/2008 2:21:09 AM)

Okay.... also.... not every time when I come into a room will Joe greet me.... or not every time when he follows me...

Also, for clarification... pets are not allowed in Grownups, Marshill, Prayer room, The Study, or Current Events?

Hmm... Joe also seems to have reverted back to walking over to me... a command set earlier that is in conjunction with that whole 'checking owner routine' thing... so I don't want to delete it... but he is also not running over to me like i programmed him to do....

ETA: i also had set an avatar and font for it... it apparently didn't keep it....

Cawfee_Mod -> RE: PetBots - Q&A (5/16/2008 7:13:29 AM)

I had programmed Latte to say "Hello, would you like a latte?" When someone comes in and says "Hello". Well, Afterwards it spammed the room with that and would not stop. So, I went in and deleted that command and it kept doing it even after that. Then a little while later I opened my Internet Explorer and apparently my info for Latte was saved and it logged him in (on my computer apparently which made him useless as a bot) and then I closed the browser and Latte went away. Now Latte is dead or something. I killed my bot on accident![:(]

Figured this one out.

You created an infinite loop.

You said hello which triggered the bot to say hello which triggered him to say hello again, etc.

Changed the trigger to something else and it solved the problem.

1. I'll need to watch you sometime with the entering thing to see what is happening.

2. Correct about the botfree rooms

3. Not sure what is up with the not running thing. I think the simple word joe is probably to short and is probably and unwise command. Could cause confusion later, I'm guessing mark put that in on purpose. (Anytime someone said joe he'd respond with why you are talking to me, even if joe was a word in a complete sentance about something else.)

4. Yeah, I had hoped the avatars and fonts would stick. Guess that is deeper in the program.

1. Correct, I think you can remove that first response about checking owner routine... it is just a base statement that they are programmed with.

2. I can't get that command to work either. I suggest you just delete it and try something else.

Actually, that was just plain ole admin error. I put in your name wrong.

bootsNspurs_mod -> RE: PetBots - Q&A (5/16/2008 4:56:29 PM)

Okay... I deleted the command that if someone says Joe he will say Why are you talking to me??. I also deleted the command that would respond to me saying Joe (the one that didn't work). But... now, even after deleting... anytime i say Joe, He still responds with Why are you talking to me?? Even though that command is gone....

this stopped.

ETA: Also... still can't get the bored command to work... am i doing it wrong?

Aussie_Mod -> RE: PetBots - Q&A (5/17/2008 7:18:40 PM)

you can teach the bot do do some action when it is "bored" and that works, that is if you ignore the bot for a certain time it becomes "bored" and does whatever action you put in there.

Aussie_Mod -> RE: PetBots - Q&A (5/18/2008 6:30:28 PM)

I have noticed that public reactions are not working properly, example I taught my bot to react to the word "work", it does if I say it but not if any other chatter says it.

Cawfee says she has the same problem with her bot also.

Aussie_Mod -> RE: PetBots - Q&A (5/18/2008 6:36:46 PM)

if you ask a bot thats not yours "who is your owner" your own bot only replies, not the bot you ask.

When the word is used by another chatter it must also include the bot's name.

if you ask a bot thats not yours "who is your owner" your own bot only replies, not the bot you ask.

You have to identify the bot you are talking to. Example:
vogonbot who is your owner

We tried that, in fact a few people tried that, but still couldnt get kanga to react to any of the words I set as triggers.

Give me the trigger command as well as the response command you made for it.

I think I solved it, it appears that if the bot is addressed as kanga it works but if as kangabot it doesn't

Fritzpw_Admin -> RE: PetBots - Q&A (5/26/2008 8:34:07 PM)

Was kanga part of the trigger?

Aussie_Mod -> RE: PetBots - Q&A (6/5/2008 11:09:02 PM)

the original trigger was kangabot I changed it to kanga

Fritzpw_Admin -> RE: PetBots - Q&A (6/6/2008 11:54:21 AM)

I need the entire trigger as well as the entire response in order to troubleshoot it.

I was thinking it would be 'bored' upon command since that was a command listing... but... I guess it doesn't work that way. The stuff that I entered for when he is bored does work though.

Okay... still havin some issues with Joe reacting to me... like... I put a public react in for if anyone says "I give up." that was part of a Bible question I was trying to teach him... He is supposed to say this, "The shortest man in the Bible is Bildad, the Shuhite,
who came to comfort Job. Get it? Shoe-height?" But, he's not reacting to it at all. I even tried deleting the command and re-entering it.
