I love sad songs, sadly. There's also Eleanor Rigby (Beatles) , Gone Away (The Offspring), Acoustic #3 (Goo Goo Dolls), Adam's Song (Blink 182). Twilight (Elliot Smith). Dead Man's Will (Iron & Wine), Best I Ever Had (Vertical Horizon), He Stopped Loving Her Today (George Jones), Freshmen (The Verve Pipe).
Hmm... drawing a blank.
Oh - and James Blunt's "No Bravery" - there's just no hope in his voice!

39 by Queen. It's about a bunch of astronauts who leave earth and use the principle of time dilation to seek out a new world for the human race. They return a hundred years later, having only aged a year in the interim. All their loved ones have died, and they have to go on living without them. :(

There was a song yrs ago about a man dying called "Seasons in the Sun"...dont remember who sang it.
Another is "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane as it applies to the movie "Go Ask Alice" and the children's book "Alice's Adventure in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll. It is to me both sad and at the same time brilliant.

Actually, i screwed up on the lyrics in White Rabbit. It's not doormouse, it is Dormouse. The other is Call Alice, when she was just small, not call Alice when she's ten feet tall. The 1973 movie, "Go Ask Alice" involves a teen girl who dies as a result of her drug addiction. I have always associated this song with death from drug addiction. Gracie Slick, on the other hand had different reasons for writing it. In children's stories, substance usage sometimes involve changes in reality. So she wrote about it.
