I saw it for $1.78 in Indianapolis today!

I think I'll reset the poll and change the options, just for fun. :) Here's the results of the old poll, for posterity.

I am cutting down on my driving 47% (69)

I purchaed/am purchasing a vehicle that gets better gas mileage 4% (6)

I moved or am moving closer to work 5% (8)

I am spending less on other items so I can spend more on gas 17% (26)

I am getting another job that pays more 1% (2)

I am supplementing my existing income 8% (12)

My wages are rising as gas prices rise, so it's not an issue for me 4% (6)

I have had to dip into savings to pay for gas 3% (5)

I am using credit to purchase gas 5% (8)

I don't drive so it doesn't affect me

Our gas prices are almost half what they were in August. It's such a relief! When I filled up my car last week and it shut off at less than $30, I kept wondering what had happened and why it shut off. Then it hit me, it was full for that price. I doubt we'll ever see below $2 here again, but what we're paying now is soooo much better than the $4.50 it hit this summer.

I agree!

It's costing less and less to fill up these days. Where is that extra money going for you? Are you driving more to compensate? Spending more on other things? Quitting your second job?

Let's talk about how we are coping with falling gas prices.

(Vote in the new poll!)

I am driving more miles more often
I purchased/am purchasing a vehicle that uses more fuel to the gallon
I moved or am moving further away from work
I am spending more on other items so I can spend less on gas
I am getting another job that pays less
I am reducing my supplementary income
My wages are falling as gas prices fall, so it's not an issue for me
I have had to add more money to my savings account
I am not using credit to purchase gas
I don't drive so it doesn't affect me

It still says rising. Some of those choices are funny. I'll be curious if anyone votes for some of them

I forgot to make it multiple choice, and the edit button's not working right now. Oh well--just post your answer. You can vote later when I get it fixed.

The gift cards I bought with some extra cash a couple months ago are lasting longer than expected.

For right now, I can't drive anymore so it doesn't effect me too much. I occasionally ask someone for a ride. I'm finding that with the falling prices, there are people who actually offer me rides now.

I should do that since all this walking is putting quite a bit of wear and tear on my shoes!

Hee! Love the new poll. I voted 'spending more on other items'.

Harvie, this made me smile so big!

Option 4 is the closest. But our prices are still high, high, high. Running errands on Thursday most station had posted $3.149 for regular. It's ridiculous. No sales tax in Anchorage, no state sales tax, no state motor fuel tax, refined in-state, no reason for prices to remain so high.

On the other hand, if I lived in the Bush, I would be spending about $7 a gallon in many villages and even more per gallon for fuel oil. Why? Because summer resupply occurred at the price of oil prices. And now the villages are stuck with paying high prices until next year's resupply. It's causing an in-migration from the Bush to Anchorage, Fairbanks, and other larger communities. The Anchorage School District enrolled almost 500 more students than expected in September due to the in-migration.

So while I do envy you folks your low gas prices, I also realize it could be far worse.

My wages are falling as gas prices fall, so it's not an issue for me. Well, not really wages, but Brian's accident happened at the peak of gas prices ($4.30 here) and now even though his income (disability and wage loss from car insurance) are lower than his income was before, the gas prices are also down. We also don't have his work expenses or the cost of cigarettes.

I am not using credit to purchase gas. WOOHOO!! Yes, we were sometimes having to use credit to have gas for him to get to work. No more. And one of the credit cards is completely paid off now and the other one is getting there.

We are driving more miles. We cut out any and all pleasure trips when prices were high. Now if we want to go somewhere a few times per month besides work or church, we can. We also have a little more fat in our grocery/household supplies budget, which is nice.

I'm not really driving more miles - likely still about as many as when the prices were double what they are now - maybe even less, BUT I don't freak out if one of the kids wants to go to a friends house after school and I have to go get them later. I could manage taking my own kids to their early AM and after school activities now, BUT I still LOVE the fact that several of us moms in my area decided to carpool for things like choir, student council and scouts. Of course hubby is driving more then when the prices were at their highest but when we can fill up his Honda for roughly $25 dollars - well we aren't complaining. With natural gas prices expected to be higher this winter - we are thankful for the break we are getting right now so we can put a bit more away in case our heating costs rise this winter.

Blessings,

Garsy

I still drive the same amount, since my job didn't change, but I'm a bit less concerned about the little extra trips that DH and I do during the weekend, and the fact that the church we've just started attending is about 15 miles one way.

I am in CA and it is 2.29 here. I never thought it would go down past 3.00 again, so maybe it will keep dropping and go under 2.00!

We are below $2 per gallon here. Some places are as low as $1.88 per gallon.

I saw $2.37 today. It seems to be holding steady at the moment.

Whoa! Gas is now #3.029 a gallon for regular. Diesel is dropping precipitously, too, to either $4.099 ot $3.899 a gallon depending upon the gas station. Regular may actually get below $3.00 by Thanksgiving!
