Ok. I asked my family about this...(boy, Nadine...can you ever pick the thread topics, or what??? This is amazing...)

I like to type with elipses...a lot. I think it's the way I talk, too.

I can't go to sleep without reading. Ok, sometimes. But I have to be really sick, really, really upset, or completely exhausted. It's happened on rare occasion.

I often read several books at the same time. One in the bedroom, one in the bathroom, one that travels with me...

I talk to the characters in movies. Eh, my family has gotten used to it. Like just Friday, when we went to see Prince Caspian, I yelled out "don't turn your back on him!"

And toilet paper...well, over the years I've gotten used to using it whichever way it comes off the roll. But it really, really bugs me when people won't put the new roll onto the holder. So, yes: I will indeed put the toilet paper on the roll if the last person did not, even in a stranger's house.

WHAT??? It takes TWO SECONDS. Why can't you just put it on!?!?!?

Fun thread I've enjoyed reading all the quirks.

I, however, am "practically perfect" in everyway

...but yeah, agreement here -- those clothes & hangers, what is it about those?

and it used to be that all the things in the cupboards had to be a certain way & towels had to go a certain way ... then I had kids & it somehow went out the window

and I really, really LOVE collecting recipes & cookbooks -- sometimes I make the things & sometimes I don't.... it would probably take me years cooking morning, noon & night just to make all the recipes I have!

SO true. There's nothing worse than being so vulnerable as to yell out, "A little help, please!" while indisposed.

Quirky is such a nice way of saying "odd"! I can think of some right off -- how many of you have every had a "Jack the Ripper" guest bathroom? I've been an avid Ripperologist for nigh on 40 years and when I moved into an apartment, I decided my small downstairs loo would house all my Ripper books and memorabilia. It was interesting to observe people's reactions. Most often, they'd stay in their for ages and then come out saying, "I was looking through some of your books in there, and they're really creepy!"

That's great!! If I get to Vermont I'm visiting you ... well, your downstairs loo.

Why does the phrase "Can you spare a square?" come to mind??

Back to the food theme ... I will eat celery raw (just the tender inside stalks), but you will find the cooked pieces left on my plate.

I cannot handle having the spell check or grammar check on my word processor turned on, with those squiggly little lines (I do a lot of "odd" word typing in my work) ... drives me nuts.

Now, am I the only one, if I see that someone has something stuck in their teeth, I become fixated on it and can't pay attention to what they are saying.

I think the reason why the hanger this is so quirky for me because it is the one thing that has to be just so......the rest of the room can be in a disarray but the clothes must be right and orderly!!

Another quirk--- I don't believe in using glasses - I drink straight from the container. (Not to worry I don't do that w/ roommate stuff unless it's specifically mine). I wasn't raised that way (sort of), so when I caught my mom (my MOTHER!!! who taught me not to do that) drinking from the OJ carton a couple years ago I about fell over. lol

I always unfasten my seatbelt as soon as I hit the driveway! Oh, and I always cover or unplug the stereo in my room at night 'cause I don't want the blue light lighting up the room!!

I read three books at a time too. Sometimes 2 if one is really intense or a difficult read. Never more than 3 though.

Yes, I'm VERY Quirky! In fact, Ive got a Ph.D.!

My quirky habits:

1. Driving the speed limit everywhere, even in the passing lane. I also don't turn left on red lights, even if there is no cross traffic. It drives relatives and other drivers bananas. My reason: The law is the law and I don't have money in my budget for paying traffic tickets, so I work hard not to get any.

2. Throwing out expired food on the exact date it expires, even if it's the sell-by date. My Mom gets aggravated with me for doing this.

3. Checking each loaf of bread and each package of cheese very carefully to make sure it doesn't have mold on it.

4. I get too helpful when giving directions to someone driving, giving them the impression that I'm a backseat driver.

and finally,

5. I won't use a commode that's not been flushed, even if I have to go somewhere else to use one.

Do I pass the quirky test?

Absolutely!!
I cannot eat anything past the expiration date either. And left overs get 2 days in the frig. and then go as well..

Ditto! I also can't stand the Track Changes mode. I have to get rid of the stupid toolbar whenever I open a file sent to me from someone that does have it on. Drives me bonkers! I've also gotten to where I won't open a Word or Excel file from the internet - I'll save it first, then open, because then I can avoid the web toolbar that somehow gets activated. Yep, I'm very particular about how I have my MS Office programs setup. hehehe

Me too.

Something else that drives me crazy is when the video and sound don't match up when watching TV/movie. I can't stand to see their mouth moving at the wrong time. I can't watch it - I just listen.

OK....I'll bite...
I listen to Christmas music year round. If I feel like putting Deck the Halls on my IPOD in july, which I do, I do it.
I must wear socks to bed...even if the room is 90 degrees, I feel like my feet will freeze...which brings me to....I must sleep in a cold cold room. I the Adirondacks it gets very cold and even at -20f I crack a window. I like to get up and see my own breath from the cold.
I also must have a cup of water by the bed in case I get thirsty..I never drink from it, I just get up if needed and get more. I also am at my cheeriest 30 seconds after I wake up. I am a morning person. I also must photograph something every day. MutinyWXgirl will understand this.
I still prefer cameras that use film.

Melissa, you sound EXACTLY like my roomate. Were you separated at birth?

I despise mayonaise, mustard or anything bitter ... so there is really no such thing as a salad dressing I will tolerate.

I also hate pickles and dill. I will not let pickle juice "contaminate" anything on my plate.

Ketchup is OK, but only on beef or ham, not poultry ... while tomatoes are acceptable at any time.

I also dislike mushrooms, aka fungus.

OH ... and I am allergic to grass pollen. AAACCHOOO!

We must be seperated at birth because I do this all the time too!!! *giggle*

Okay...I have quite a few quirks. (Duh...right?)

I have to have all my spices lined up in order of importance. Occasionally I'll go in spurts where I don't use a particular spice for a while and it will go to the back of the line.

I don't like my food touching but I HATE those divided plates.

I would rather drink out of a glass cup than a plastic one, unless it's disposable.

If I get seconds on a dish I generally get a fresh plate or wipe mine off, depending on what's on it and where I am.

I don't mix foods. Ew.

I can't sit with my back to the entrance of a restaurant.

I HAVE to have music on in the car unless I'm talking on the phone.

No matter what the temperature is in the house, or how hot I am if I'm sitting around the house I have to have a blanket on me.

If I drink a soda I prefer it in a glass with ice and a straw. I can drink it out of the can or a bottle but it just doesn't taste as good.

Did I scare anyone off? LOLOL!!!!

ETA: I also edit my posts if I notice a misspelled word.

You sound a little like me, I like a cold room too, theres not very many night during the winter that I don't crack a window, although this past winter I still had my air conditioner in the window so I ran the fan most nights. I learned to sorta like the noise. And yes I also wear socks to bed but only if my feet are cold, NOT if the room is 90 degrees! Oh & I ususally have water by my bed too But there is where the similarities end!!

When you are in a debate, Your posts are well thought out like you prepared them in a word processor (no misspelled words) and then copied and pasted.

(Thank you)

I do a lot of editing after I write it. Precision is important.

OK I'll share some of my quirks.

1. I whistle. A lot. Always singing or humming or whistling osmething. (But I'm very good at it)

2. I do not use condiments at all. No mayo, mustard, ketchup, salad dressings. (I do not count butter or margarine as a condiment)

3. Bread must always be eaten with butter. Except for leftover rolls.

4. Pizza is eaten with a fork. At least until the toppings are gone.

Can't think of any other non-dietary ones. As I said, I'm pretty 'salt of the Earthish'

I'm not sure how quirky this is, but I can't stand for cabinet and closet doors to be open. I always make sure they're shut.

I also have to position the piano bench just so or else I can't play well. It just doesn't feel right otherwise.

(note to self: have automatic cabinet door opener installed prior to GT )

I have a thing about making short posts. I figure that, if I can't get my point across in a relatively few sentences, then, either my vocabulary is lacking or I don't have a sufficient grasp on my thoughts about the subject and should keep my mouth shut and fingers still.
