I cannot sleep without a cover of some kind. I have a phobia about my feet being tickled in the night. By whom, I have no idea. I mean, how likely is it that someone would break into my house for the sole purpose of tickling me?

I have found that coffee mugs and big short glasses are great for organizing my pens and markers and such.

And small baskets are great for organizing some of my other art supplies.

I keep my calligraphy nibs in a small saucer . . . except the ones that are air drying.

Oh . . . true story . . .

I had some nibs drying on a paper towel at the end of my art table.

When I use ink cartridges with my nibs, I lay those flat on the paper towel also. That way, there's no chance of ink spilling anywhere.

So there my nibs and some previously punctured ink cartridges were . . . on a paper towel and minding their own business.

This 16-year house guest is staring intently at them. They are half-empty, and the punctured end of the cartridge is visible to him. Next to the paper towel is a tray that is housing completely full, un-punctured ink cartridges . . . so it's a good comparison; the cartridges in the tray have not been used; the ones on the paper towel have been.

I'm guessing he's an intelligent boy with knowledge of how to utilize his common sense.

I was wrong.

The next thing I knew, he comes up to me with blank ink all over himself! He looks at me and says, "Why didn't you tell me those cartridges would leak all over me?" I looked at him and asked him what part of that display did not register to him.

He then sees my ink bottles! And asked me if he could open them. Uhm, that would be a no.

Quirk: Ziploc bags are my friends. For practical anything.

Quirks: I won't put anything wet in my laundry basket. I hang it up and let it airdry before putting it in with the other dirty laundry.
I also don't like to pick up anything wet if I'm not the one that that got it wet.
I also don't like wadded up wet dish clothes in the sink or the counter. That gives me the heebie jeebies. I always rinse my dish cloth, wring it out almost completely dry and then hang it over the sink divider. I change dish cloths every day; sometimes more. I also cannot stand to have even a slightly damp dish towel. Sometimes I'll go through several dish towels during the course of cooking just one meal.

This is not just a stuggle for me it is a serious issue. I used to be a stuggling perfectionist, since Hubby died I am a failing perfectionist.
I cannot do something half way....I would rather not do it. I hear my Moms voice in my head saying "anything worth doing, is worth doing well." I would rather spend the time and have one room so clean that you could literally eat off of any surface. Then go through and just straighten the whole house. I beat myself up constantly over not being able to do everything the way I want to. Because I think it should be that way I also assume I should be able to make it that way, and right now I am failing miserably at it.

{{{{{Nadine}}}}} I so empathize with you. I struggle with 'if I can't do it perfectly, I can't do it', too.

It's important to remember what's important. And that would be YOU and the kids. The rest will all wait for you. Please don't beat yourself up anymore. You don't deserve it and your kids will learn to beat up on themselves, too. I know you don't want them to struggle with what you struggle with. I know because my kids are what forced me to be gentler with myself. They need a mom who is different than what I was and who cuts herself some slack. Do whatever it takes to erase that tape in your head because it isn't true. The only thing that's really "worth doing", the only thing that's going to last, is raising your children. And that, paradoxically, requires that you take very good care of yourself and make fewer demands of perfection on yourself.

Well, yeah.

Knowing that you have the 'outta sight, outta mind' problem, too, makes me feel much better. I honestly thought I was the only one.

Feathers also crossed my mind at the same time ...

You know, it sounds like what's needed somewhere is a perfectionists' support thread. It sympathize with y'all. Somehow I managed to miss that particular bug.

We probably should get back on-topic

Let's see, quirky ... everything I have taped or tacked up around my desk must be perfectly squared off. If it's crooked I go nuts! Same with the pictures on the walls around me.

I have half a bookshelf full of organizing books.

I like, and have a lot of, cookbooks but don't particularly like to cook.

Quirk: When using multiple exclamation points or question marks, they must be in sets of either 3 or 7.

Quirk: The same thing goes for when using a smiley.

However, if I am using more than one smiley in a string, then it can be in multiples of either 5 or 7.

Now that's quirky!

Unless someone comes up with something better, I think I ought to get the quirkiness prize to make up for all the laughing at my expense.

Actually, I didn't really anticipate anyone thinking it was all that funny OR quirky. Isn't that just always the way?

I'm just having all kinds of delightful visuals of you crawling in bed and making sure the sheets are tightly tucked in and then you pulling up the sheets all the way to your eyes and sheepishly looking around to see if anyone is lurking in the shadows with glorious anticipation, and all the while wielding a feather.

reading all the filing posts reminded me of this one.

I have the returned check or duplicate from almost every check I've written over the last 20 years. (Some even before then)

I tend to be very meticulous about filing paid bills. Up until last year I had every water bill (etc) I'd ever paid for the last 20 years. I finally got rid of those that were over 10 years old. But I have a vague recollection of capturing the usage data off of them all)

LOL! I do actually pull the covers up to my neck because, and I'd forgotten about this, I have the same tickling phobia about my neck.
