Stella, Are you guys renting or do you have to sell before you move? So far that's the scariest part for us because the market is so bad right now. We hope we can sell our house and get at least as much as we owe on it...hopefully more.

We're just renting, so we don't have any of that concern.

I'd hate to be in the position of having to sell a house right now. I pray all of you guys sell your houses and get good prices. [:D] I got a good deal on boxes yesterday at the Uhaul store. $54 for twenty boxes and bubble wrap and a roll of foam stuff and markers and tape and a box cutter. I couldn't find a cheaper price anywhere else in town. I also learned that they will buy back any boxes you don't use. So there you go. (But don't rent a truck from them! [8D]) I really like the Uhaul boxes because they are heavy duty and good sizes. It's hard to find boxes from businesses around here because so many of them flatten them. [sm=aside.gif] Why would you flatten a perfectly good box?

Speaking of moving boxes- I do freecyling in my community and I've noticed postings of moving boxes since people are always moving. So you might want to check freecyle.

Good idea. I'd trade boxes for about a hundred books--that's what I still have to give away. [:D]

It's not on the market yet because there are a few things we want to do to it before listing like neutral paint (I've got an outdated sage green in the living room, foyer, hall right now), a few updated light fixtures, new interior doors and have the deck rebuilt. We're thinking next Spring is when we'll be done with updates and get it listed.

After 11 years, you should still have a significant amount of appreciation. I'll bet you come out just fine. (Hey- isn't sage green back in style now?). Next spring, eh? I'm guessing the market should start coming back by then. There have been a few isolated metro's that experienced bad real estate markets for a good long time, but not many. Houston in the early 90's is really the worst one - that bear market lasted 5 years or so. This current bear market should be getting fairly long in the tooth by 3/09. That's closing up on 3 years nationally - that's a very long time for the market to be this slow. I'm betting it will still be slower than it should be, but that you'll get it done and be ok. I'd put money on it. (Not really - I'm Dutch. We don't put money on anything.)

I think we should because we still owe quit a lot less than our house is worth according to the appraisal. I hope you're right about the housing market. I agree, it's been too long for it to continue much longer. The good side of that is maybe we'll get a great deal on a house out in MO.[sm=icon_smile_idea.gif]

She's never going to be a baby or toddler again, but I can make that money back.[;)]

I can't explain how much I praise God for finding this thread! DH and I are moving at the end of October halfway across the country, roughly 850 miles. We also have a 17 month old. I can't explain how overwhelmed I feel! [sm=unsure.gif] We're renting right now, which makes it a little easier. We plan on renting when we get there as well, but will be downsizing from 3 bedrooms (with a converted garage) to a 2 bedroom. We also plan on moving again once we're there after a year to a 4 bedroom. Over the last 6 months we've slowly picked up about 40 18 gallon tupperware containers that we can leave packed in storage over that time. I'm so excited to read what everyone has to say!
