I keep saying that I want to start a spreadsheet listing all of the ones I have, but I haven't done it yet. I'm sure it would take at least an hour or two to get it together, so I won't be posting my list anytime real soon!

That is exactly what I've done. I created an album catalog (excel spreadsheet) of my entire Southern Gospel music collection that lists artist/album name/record label/year/total song count. My collection is just shy of 1,800 albums.

Could someone explain to me how to do this? Would i need to buy a special program for my computer, or how do i start? cause , with my big collection, it would be nice to have it catalogued. Thanks.

PS, and my collection is not any digital downloads of projects, mine is all hard copies of the acutal projects that i have purchased. I don't even know how to download music yet. But i think i would rather have the actual Cd's etc. anyhow.

I think is on Excel the spread sheet.

same here on the big ones. I have all my stuff loaded to computer and then IPOD the songs I listen to most for easier travel. the country collections(((Jones, Williams Sr., Presley, Twitty, Lynn, Cash, Williams Jr., and Southern Rock of Skynyrd))) all took me a while to build. George Jones especially. He has 3 albums named 4-0-33 all released seperately. buy them and find out already have same so have to rebuy. was a pain. LOL

WOW!!!

I cannot imagine having that many! How do you store all that, Steve?????

Very carefully. No really, the CDs and cassettes are not too difficult. Once they've been digitally downloaded to iTunes they are easy to pack and store in boxes. The LPs, on the other hand are a little harder to store away. I have crates that I keep the LPs in once they've been digitally downloaded to iTunes. Thank the Lord I have a lot of storage space.

I plan on building a collection along those lines. I am looking for one of the machines that loads LP's to a computer.

You really don't need one. Our good buddy Adam pointed me in the right direction when I was looking to do the same thing. There are several programs on-line that you can download that will allow you to record cassettes/LPs directly to MP3 format on your computer. Some programs cost money and others don't. The program I use cost me $35.95 for a permanent license to the software. Considering the amount of cassettes/LPs I have been able to digitize, the price was well worth it for me.

When you purchased your computer, did it come with the standard microsoft office products (word, excel, access)? I guess I should be asking whether you use a PC or MAC.

Then you should have the microsoft office (word, excel, access) products. If it was given to you, then maybe the microsoft office products were never downloaded. The new microsoft office 2007 software currently runs about $149. If you do have excel let me know and I can help you get started on creating a catalog of your music.

If you are just wanting to create a spreadsheet and you don't have Micro$oft Office included on your computer, you may want to download Open Office. It has the same functionalities as most Office programs and it's FREE.

Think of all the music you can buy with the money you would save....

I have collected videos, cd's and records, since i was about 7. I traveled with the nelons for a time, so i began collecting all over america.
I currntly have around 4000 southern gospel cd's
about 2500 lps and around 600 vhs.
including the very rare lp The Inspirations Through The Gates".
there is nothing more excting than coming across somehing really good that you dont have. Most of my lps have come from thrift stores across America. That seems to be the best place for records

I'm surprised to see that you have no Kingdom Heirs projects in your collection. Let me recommend at least adding Going on With the Song to your collection, I really believe you'd enjoy it.

I haven't had much of an opportunity to get anything from them yet. My local Christian bookstores don't carry any of their CD's and they have not been in this area for a concert. I could go on to their website and order something but I just haven't done that yet.

That's understandable. My local Christian bookstore don't have much of a selection of southern gospel and I don't attend many concerts so I do most of my shopping online. If you do decide to visit the Kingdom Heirs website remember that they have the option of digital downloads if you want to go that route.

Digital downloads are not really an option for me because I still have the archaic dial-up internet connection at home!

Dial up. I remember those days when any page with a picture or fancy graphics took 45 seconds or longer to load. So glad when cable internet became available here.
