Finally finished up Cowboy Bebop and Mermaid's Forest.
Cowboy Bebop, while it is awesome, I think is a bit overrated if you ask me. I actually started this before DNAngel but the third disc was cracked so I had to send the set back for a replacement. And I think DNAngel spoiled me in between :D As popular and stuff as Bebop is I was expecting it to really build up and blow your socks off. Its still a great series with lots of action and humor (I loved the episodes Cowboy Funk and Mushroom Samba), just didn't develop into anything like I thought it would story wise. I did enjoy the back story that was finally tied up in the end, I thought they could have done more with that.
Mermaids Forest was good but it doesn't end!!! Its starts getting really good, interesting stories, really dark and then it just stops!! No resolution or anything! They don't even get rid of the creepy evil little boy. Oh well, I liked it, but disappointed.

Nah, I found out what it was. It was only released on DVD (in the US anyway) as a "Director's Expanded Edition". 5 minutes removed, 8 minutes added and the song was removed from that scene.
ahhh..yeah, I still have it on VHS from when it first came out...so it was the same as in the theater.
bummer they removed that song...it was perfect since he had just hollered at her to "YOU STAY ALIVE...NO MATTER WHAT OCCURS...I WILL FIND YOU" and swoosh, jumped into the falls.

Into The Wild- very captivating movie and yet depressing. You really get into the movie while he goes into his journey. I also found out that most of the people in the movie were the actual characters that he met. 'not sure how much Oscar nominations did this movie get, I know Hal Holbrook got the nomination since I thought it was really well done.

Just a note here...the music for Cowboy Bebop is spectacular. It's jazz and most of it one would not be able to guess it was written for an anime series.
And, yeah, maybe the series is overrated. It's oven referred to as a good intro to anime for American audiences, possibly because it is adult in tone (except the kid, but no chilbli or anything), and because the bounty-hunter main characters would appeal to people raised in American culture (they're individualists, to be sure).

I haven't seen the last DVD. I'm glad to be forwarned that there is no real ending.
Hmmm...watched most of Becoming Jane. I can't believe this, but I'm getting burned out on Austen, at least Austen biopics. I still want to see the last two new adaptations of her books on PBS.
Watched Elizabeth: The Golden Age. It was interesting watching this after seeing about 6 episodes of The Tudors last week. I prefer the Elizabeth films to The Tudors. I prefer Elizabeth over her father, period. And her mother, the hussy.
Beowolf is next for me. Hopefully tonight.

I've watched this twice now. I really enjoyed it. I didn't know about the characters being the real people, tho I did notice the names in the credits seemed to be their real names.
My brother was a 'supertramp' most of his life. He's been dead almost 2 years now (murdered). I can identify with the sister......

I always go on imdb website after watching a movie and read the trivia and that's where I found out about most of the characters from the movie were the same people he met. One particular character was the guy who drove him in the beginning of the movie and gave him the pair of boots, he was the actual guy who did drive him years ago.
And by the way, I'm so sorry about your brother. I can understand how you identify with the sister.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day: This starts out really good, but then kind of devolves into your typical romantic comedy by the end. At it's start, though, it reminds me of a throw back to an earlier era of Hollywood romantic comedies (albeit with more sex), and it is just fun to hear the back and forth between all the different characters. It also gets bonus points for having one of the better developed and more sympathetic villains of any film in its genre. But by the end, after it delivers its implausibly happy ending, it's mostly just interesting for its performances, and they are good (especially Amy Adams, who I think is going to be the biggest female star in Hollywood someday).

Not a fan of jazz though by the end of the series I didn't mind it. But the music in Cowboy Funk... awesome (plus the episode was hilarious)! If I was to introduce anyone into anime and had one episode from any series to win them over with, it would be that one.
Anyway, watched The Boondock Saints last night. It was pretty good. I liked it a lot. I never really heard of it but my brother brought it over and I wasn't really sure what to expect... Reminded me of some Quinton Tarantino would have directed. Good soundtrack :D
Started Witch Hunter Robin too... Obviously not very far but I like it. Good animation. Great music too. Pretty interesting. Much better than regular police type mystery dramas (*cough*standalonecomplex*cough*)

Oh, I love Witch Hunter Robin. One of my favorite animes. Actually I'm still something of a devoted fan of Ghost In The Shell SAC, though I can see how it can be monotonous, with the constant meandering with cyber, techno-babble, and some metaphysical soliloquies involving existence and the net (i.e. all the talk about a stand alone complex: the wikipedia stub allegedly defines something about a series of copycat crimes with no known original). But I guess my main, and only beef with GIST:SAC is some of the 1-dimensional, maybe not-so-overt anti-Americanism, found in the episodes Jungle Cruise, and the 2nd Gig episode, Poker Face... well, that and the Laughing Man's thoughts on God: I'm thinking director Kenji Kamiyama (or some of his scripting crew) have been spending a bit too much time invested in the extremes of Western Leftist ideologies, and possibly Japanese ultra-nationalism (on the last episode of the 2nd Gig season), reeking of the politically-loaded, buzz words, "Rape of Nanking," "Pearl Harbor," "Bataan Death March," and "Unit 731."
*heck even the whole story arc of 2nd Gig revolves around Japanese sovereignty, especially with the whole constitutionality of the Article 9 issue
But given your descriptions of the CGI adaption of Beowulf: I'm not surprised to hear the bloodier opening sequence--given that as an English major, I do recalled the gorier details in the original text, albeit having to read it in Old/Middle English!  That reminds me: I'm (rhetorically) wondering what my alma mater, college literature professors are opining about the theatrical version!

Dan in real life- 'really enjoyed the movie. Steve Carrell, I'm so use on seeing him as Michael on his office that this was a treat to see him in a different role. He was perfect for the role. I love the dynamics within the family. Great movie.

Started the first DVD of Blood+ last night. Having mostly seen later episodes of the series, it was interesting being "re-introduced" to the characters as they were at the beginning of the series.

My almost 15 year old Daughter has been after me for a while now to watch , A Walk To Remember. I gave in the other night and watched .. well.. most of it . It was a good movie. I might have to sit and watch it completely through next time.

I just saw Never Back Down. It's one sick movie. i liked everything about it. it came out on Friday. the fight scenes were awesome and so was the storyline.

I just saw "12 Angry Men." The 1957 version, of course. Never has Henry Fonda rocked more. Just goes to show, court can be more interesting than Judge Judy.

Just a quick notation about the Mermaid Forest story. I have all four volumes of the Mermaid Saga manga and while there's no real finale, there's not meant to be. The series is more about being an immortal and what it means to be human. Excellent stuff there.
Anyway I think I may end up watching Sin City again tonight. One of my favorite movies, though Boondock Saints is high up there too.
