In bookkeeping terms, the "credit" has been applied, then the "debit" will be applied when we file taxes next year. In all likelihood, the actual funds are probably coming from the SS account and probably will never really be paid back. It's not really physical money, per se, anyway. It's all on paper.

If "Ways to save money on gas" was a question on Family Feud, the number one answer would probably be, buy a more fuel effiicient vehicle. If "Ways to stay healthy and save money on food" were a question, the number one answer would probably be, eat less. If "Ways to save money on electricity in the summer" were a question, the answer would probably be, "keep your themostat at a decent temperature", probably above 72. In other words, all those are reasonable suggestions, all the experts have been making for years, but all of a sudden, Barack Obama makes them, and some people assume the next thing he'll be advocating is baby rationing. Is Barack Obama becoming the most feared and hated man in American history? Are we looking to John McCain as the man to save our country from total doom, destruction and chaos? A man who will save us from the wicked Obama gestapo who has plans on sending the Jeremiah Wright Youth Brigade into our homes and snatching the forks out of our mouths, taking the guns and bibles hard working typical white people bitterly cling to, smashing our air conditioners, calling our wives and daughters "sweetie" and burning our precious Ford Expeditions? Help us Obie Wan McCain, you're our only hope! - Julius

My family doesn't need anyone telling us how much fuel or food we can or cannot have/afford. We have enough sense to figure this out for ourselves. If we can't afford the price of gas these days, and we can't, then we drive less...we consolidate our trips as much as possible. We won't be going on a vacation. We'll shop for groceries more creatively. We're purchasing food from Angel Food. We're shopping more often at places like Goodwill. We're keeping the thermostat set just a little more out of our comfort zone. We're not so brainless and "sheep-like" that we have to be told to do this stuff. And that's what used to define America. But now we have a population that can't seem to think for itself. And it's those people that will vote for someone like Obama...and I believe he will be our next president.

Sheesh, what are you people Eskimos? Who in the heck keeps their thermostat at 72? Where I live it would be running constantly from April through October. Personally I keep mine in the mid to high 80's (86-88). I try to run my ceiling fans mostly and keep the windows and doors open, once it gets warmer I'll put a fan in the window. But then again I prefer to be warm than cold. I grew up in Chicago and grew soooo tired of being cold.

Gack! In Florida you would roast if the AC were at the temperature! I keep mine at 75 only beause I live surrounded by trees. And it runs from mid April until Decemberish.

I say keep your thermostat right where you want it, if you can afford it. That's my point...if you can afford the gas for an SUV, more power to you. If you can't then you'll find some other way. That's what is so great about living in the US. That's what is called "freedom". However, there are some that are so jealous and envious and covetous, that if they can't have it, they don't want anyone to! And they'll kick up quite a fuss and try to make everyone else feel bad. Hmmmm...know any folks like that?

Regarding SUVs, in case anyone hasn't noticed, the market is taking care of them. Sales of SUVs are in the tank. I drive a Civic by the way. If we're willing to let government regulate food portions, where do we draw the line and what will be next? jf to Obama: Keep your hands off my dinner.

Well since he is the great hope, my thinking is this, SUVs will not matter, he will solve the gas crisis, and economy, and energy problems, all in one swoop of his blessed hand. Do not forget world, peace and prosperity, and fairy dust.
