I'm so glad the surgery went well Donna. That story of right after you woke up and the nurse thinking you thought you had a baby was hilarious!

Donna, I'm glad that everything went well, and was able to be done laparoscopically.

You reminded me that after my mom had surgery several years ago, my neice was quite small, and she ALWAYS wanted to see Grandma's boo-boo's. Although it was quite fascinating for her due to the fact that mom also had a colostomy bag for a while (later reversed), and of course she'd never seen such a thing before. That girl has always always said that she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up... she's only 10 at the moment, so we shall see... but she still says that. =)

Anyway, it's good to remind the kiddo's that you have boo-boo's and to show them where mommy hurts. I'm sure they understand having boo-boo's. =)

It sounds like things are going pretty well there.. yay!! =)

I thought of you yesterday when I was at the ob/gyn. I saw two handouts that reminded me of you and your surgery. One was on laproscopic hysterectomy. The other was on endometriosis and the treatment options for it.

I went to Walmart and Rite Aid for the first time since the surgery. I didn't lift hardly anything (my mom was with me), but all that walking EXHAUSTED me. Yikes. I got halfway through and could not believe how tired I was.

I don't think I'll need help every day after this weekend. I'm already doing bedtime on my own. Well, with Noah. Noah got a "cash incentive" today. He's pretty happy to be helping...[8D]

Twelve days post-op...I have minimal pain, almost all in my belly button and only if I move certain ways or if some child headbutts me there. I did the dishes today, and have been putting wood in the furnace carefully. I won't be attempting to sweep, mop, or vacuum until maybe next week because I know those movements are ones that will hurt. I've also been able to suck in my tummy muscles and do Kegels without pain. Yay!

I'm so glad they could do laproscopic. Twelve days after my 2004 open laparotomy, I was barely able to get out of bed still.

Three weeks post-op...no pain. Really, no pain at all today. Awesome!

It seems a bit strange to me right now, honestly. Now that I'm not in pain from the surgery anymore, I feel just the same as I did before the surgery. I bet I'll have times when I wonder when I'm going to start my period or even think I might be pregnant. LOL Too weird... Did that happen to you, Lisa?

Haven't noticed anything different hormonally or emotionally either. I've been very good at remembering my estrogen pills, which is not like me. I think I'm afraid I'll turn into a man if I forget them. Ha.

Yes, it is weird to have something so important to you to removed and not even feel it missing. I don't miss my period at all, it doesn't even feel weird to me not to have them. The weird part for me is when I find myself getting more emotional or something for a few day in a row and wondering if isn't PMS, but I never know for sure.

I shouldn't have the "is this PMS?" problem, since I'm not making my own hormones any more. That's good. I'd hate to still have the mood swings and not be sure of where they were coming from.[:o]

There's no way the doctor could have left my ovary. It was all full of endometriosis. He said there was hardly any healthy ovary tissue at all. They did send it to pathology to be sure of what it was and it all came back endometriosis and not cancer. Whew!

The bright side is that I "could" blame all my mood swings on PMS since I have no idea when I really do have PMS.[8D]

I keep forgetting that you had your ovaries removed as well; although if you were to ask me, I would know that you don't have them anymore. I just can't seem to remember it without some sort of prompt. That is the big difference between us now. I am so glad that you can live without pain now.

Hi Donna glad to hear you recovered quickly. I'm going for an hysterectomy around April next year. I'm nervous at the same time and yet excited. I be glad to have no AF problems and no more pains.

Donna, have you heard of someone having a hysterectomy to treat migraines?
I know that my migraines are (at least) mostly caused by fluctuations in my hormones. I usually get migraines twice a month (when I ovulate and when I get my period).
My SIL said that she has a couple of friends who had a hysterectomy to treat migraines, and although it seems extreme, she said that it worked.
Let me know what your thoughts are. I realize that this is different than what you experienced, but wondered if you had any advice for me. I will be seeing my Dr in January, and am going to ask her about it.

You'd have to take the ovaries to treat the hormonal cause of the migraines, I think. I do know someone who had a complete hysterectomy for the purpose of treating migraines, and it worked for her. She's very glad she did it, though it took a while for her to convince the doctor to do it. She did not go on any HRT, since she was close to menopause age anyway and had very few symptoms.

I am 100% pain free now. I've had a couple "did we do the right thing?" moments, but otherwise, good.

I haven't really noticed any changes hormonally. One thing I am surprised by is that I am not at all dry "down there". Not at all. Probably because of the estrogen I am on, but still, I expected some change.

I guess they would have taken the ovaries as well. I am not sure.
Donna, I am so glad that you are feeling good, and that it was the right decision. My SIL had one a year ago, and she is so glad, as she is pain-free as well.
I am not sure how close to menopause I am. My Mom said that she started at 42, and I am 41, so probably pretty close. I will talk to my Dr about it in Jan. I have problems with my period as well, so it will be interesting to see what she says. Of course, this is just my family Dr, so she might refer me on to on ob/gyn, which would be fine.
I definitely feel like my hormones are out of whack, last month my period was a couple weeks late, and I was "pms-ing" for 2-3 weeks. Ick!

Esther just looks unsure, that's all.

The estrogen is probably helping the dryness. I don't remember ... do you still have your ovaries? So you still have some hormone production?

You're comment about dryness made me chuckle. My mom's doc took her off of hormones and she's now complaining about that. I'm thinking to myself, I DON'T WANT TO KNOW THAT!!!!

And also ... welcome to my world. That's been my experience since the beginning.
