I was 44, and I'm always the oldest mom with an infant everywhere I go. I had my son on 6/12/07. My husband and I were married in '85, and we decided to try after about seven years. I wish age didn't make a difference. When your a first time mom in your 40s you constantly wonder if you should try for another, this is after wondering if you'd ever have child for so many years. Too bad we don't have a mom for an apostle to learn from.

My mom was in her late 30's when my brother was born and when he went to school in a small town, she was always the oldest mom there. But when they moved him to a private school in the big city, she became a "young" mom. A lot of women have kids later in life now, especially in less rural areas. At least, that's been my experience.

Lisa, referring to the above comments about age of the mom and area where they live... is it common where you live to marry and have children quite young?

Not really. The common view among the homeschoolers in our area when I was growing up is that you should wait to get married until the young man had at least a year's wages in the bank. Most of the homeschool graduates my age were headed to college and weren't even thinking about getting married yet. In fact, we caused quite a scandal in our homeschool group for pairing up in the first place. Some of the parents were very upset, because they didn't believe that the teen parties should be used for pairing off. They wanted their children to wait until they were much older, like in their thirties, to get married. They actually tried to do away with teen parties altogether when Erick and I got engaged. They thought we were bad examples. We were the first in our group to get married, but not the last. There are several others that are married now with kids, but they waited longer than we did.

20, and just a couple weeks from turning 21. My baby just graduated high school at 18 and went to YWAM last night! I'm so proud of him! My other baby, 17, could have gone with brother but he's home painting and helping around the house for 2 weeks.

I was 22 when I had my first, she's 31 now, & posts here. My second is 28. I take care of the oldest ones kids now so in some ways I feel like I'm starting all over again. Her youngest 2 children are 2, & 1. Aren't I too old for all this?[;)]

Hislittleone -> RE: How old were you when you first became a Mom? (7/10/2008 3:47:19 AM)

I had just turned 20. Ds#1 was born 23 days after my birthday.

ThursdaysChild -> RE: How old were you when you first became a Mom? (7/10/2008 4:26:30 AM)

I was born on my mom's 30th birthday. She hated it when I learned how to add. "Mom, remember when I was 5 and you were 35?" LOL I also would tell them how old I was and which birthday I was born on. If they knew how to add it wasn't MY fault. LOL

Anyway, 30 years later I had my first...only it was 4 months after my 30th birthday. The twins were born a couple of weeks before I turned 37. We were kinda hoping for our birthday to share it with them but they wanted to come earlier. H was stuck up in my ribs with her feet by her ears. She was ready for some breathing room!

free-to-worship -> RE: How old were you when you first became a Mom? (7/10/2008 4:00:51 PM)

My youngest was born on my 28th birthday! I wasn't too fond of her learning to add either. [;)]
And I homeschooled her! For a short while, I was so proud of how quickly she learned to add.
