Even though I may not be able to participate regularly...I love getting to start the new thread for the month!

Enjoy and talk about all the joys, trials, irritations, and wonder of being homeschooling families (and anything else that comes to minds as well!)

And yes...I started this a day early! I wanted to get the chance to start a new thread.....lol!!!!

That and I almost always turn my calendar a day early....or it can be the middle of the month before I change it!

Wow! you are in a hurry!

The kids are making breakfast this morning. I believe that they are making pancakes. They love making breakfast so much that we have had to really get on them about asking permission first... no surprises! I feel like I should be more grateful, but after having a 3, 6, and 7 year old making breakfast at 6:30 in the morning and pillaging the cupboards and kitchen... well... no more of that.

The ladies read the list of concerns that the county wrote about us from the last effort to adopt. There was one item in there list that thought was awful without even knowing the whole situation. I think that they are going to be able to see what really happened to us. I am glad, because they have to go over all that paper work when doing their own homestudy. It sounds like we may have to start from square one and do everything (including fingurprints) all over again. They are nt even sure that we are a good fit for there organization. They tend to deal with older kids that the county contracts out to them because they need a higher, more specialized care. It is expanding though, so they are going to research things to see if they think that they will be able to help us.

Good to see you W.O.F.! My, you do like to get a jump start on things, don't you?

It is storming here-thunder, hail, lightening, rain-in a continuous cycle it seems-it will be strong, then let up so you think it's over and then it starts up in intensity again. It is supposed to be over by noon though. I hope so because I don't want to drive to tambourine practice if it is this bad.

We had a meeting and vote last night about whether to purchase a sound system or not. Two people had sent an email saying they were concerned about the budget and that in two years we would be out of money. Our leaders were upset about that and upset that these folks who recently came back to the congregation were questioning their ethics again.

One thing that I did not like was that our P& W leader was saying that we need to move forward and that in the Bible God was not happy when his people did not move forward.

One person challenged him and asked if he was saying that people that voted no for the sound system did not have faith? I thought to myself "Yup! That's what he's saying." She said that was judgmental on his part. I think it is manipulative-trying to guilt people into giving you what you want. Not to mention all those passages about "Wait on the Lord"...

Our rabbi apologized and said that is not what he wanted to say-the P & W leader remained silent.

It's good to know where this person stands on things. I will be watching to see how the next things will be presented and see if this is a recurring theme.

I am also ornery enough to vote no on anything else that is presented in that same manipulative manner. I have a friend who considers that withcraft-using manipulation to get what you want.

Ellie-Mae: It's nice that you were given the opportunity to meet with a different agency. Perhaps it will open doors to what you are desiring. I hope that you are feeling better today.

Narnia: My ds's eye will swell due to allergies (mine will also). He was very sensitive to carpet fibers and animal dander as a child...direct contact would cause his eye/eys to swell. I also discovered that my eyes will swell if I take a certain over the counter pain medication. A warm wash cloth helps our eyes. I hope that your dd does not have an eye infection and that her eye will clear quickly.

I need to start parting with all of my old school curriculum...since it is no longer in use. I need to close the homeschool chapters of my life (in other words...gain some closet space). How do you all get rid of older, (out of date), books?

Julia, she does have eczema which is an allergy in and of itself. We need to try to figure out to what. I am going to see if we can start her on an elimination diet and see if that works. The only different thing she did on Thursday evening was play outside-she hadn't been outside in a few days, but I don't know if that was the cause. Although I remember when we first moved here how she was stuffed up the first two summers. She started off stuffed up last year but then we visited my folks for a month and she came back and did not have any sniffles the rest of the summer.
Now we're starting our third summer and there will be no visit back home, so maybe she is allergic to whatever it is that blows so much around here.

I have seen older books on freecycle occasionally. I have also thought about donating them to the library (they sell used books that they don't want to buy other books). I have also gotten books at the Salvation army. These are places that people will go to when they can't afford to buy new.

Today is my day of rest. After the past few days of getting ready for those ladies to come, I need it. I don't feel horrible, but I know I need it.

It was all that I could do to NOT hug them when they were leaving. I am not even a huggy person (outside of church people and family)

Good for you, Ellie. Now that it's quiet and cats are in, I'm going to see if I can get some more sleep. Our blessing is in our bed-thanks to the storms that woke her up and scared her...so I will do one of my favorite things in the whole world! Snuggle with my blessing.

Um, I think ds2 is allergic to peanut butter.

Thanks for getting May over with a day early, WOF. Coulda done it two days early, as far as I'm concerned. So from now on, May has 29 days and June has 32.

Happy June pre-1st!

OK - I'm not ready for June yet!

We have a busy day ahead of us! Dh & Ds leave tomorrow morning for scout camp. We have to do laundry, pack, get the van ready to go, do budget/bills & straighten up the house. On top of all that, a friend is coming over today to test drive dh's truck! He may buy it for his daughter!!! That would be awesome!

I am so ready for June. June 13-14 is the Washington Homeschool Organization convention. I am taking TL with me both days. There is a lecture that I hope she will enjoy. I am really looking forward to taking her with me, but she doesn't seem excited at all.

Ellie, even if they don't have any children for you, they are at least validating you, and I think that is very important. To have a professional come in and say, 'Those county ppl were off their rockers!' is a gift in and of itself.

Cynthia, T has never been to a convention. She just doesn't realize there is something to get excited about.

Mowing lawns on Saturday morning should be illegal.

The whole office has had a cold and I finally caught it yesterday. Which is why we aren't at the paddlefest at this very moment learning intermediate kayaking. We will still go later on, but no classes-the boys will have to content themselves with demo-ing boats and such.

I have had muscle soreness for DAYS. I even went and bought arnical tablets but they aren't touching it, and I don't know why.

Can I go back to bed now?

Ellie, I'm glad you've found an agency that is willing to listen to you.

Narnia, I've heard that spend the money and they will come, or you're showing lack of faith argument a few too many times too. I wouldn't automatically vote something down because of it, but I'd sure look at the proposal a little more carefully.

Julia, I've been having a lot of success selling my school stuff on vegsource.

Cindy--Donna caught it! If'n you buy an extra jar of peanut butter for my ds2, you better have an Epi-pen handy!!!

We had tornadoes blow through at 4am this morning. Had to herd 4 kids, 2 dogs, 2 birds and 1 snake down to the basement. We ended up with heavy rain, hail and high winds. Eventually we were able to go back to bed.

I got up sick this morning but tried to do my run anyway. I was supposed to do abot 11miles but at 2miles I had to do the walk of shame back home. I started on Flonase on Tuesday. On the way home I ran into my neighbor who is our pharmacist. She thought the steroid in Flonase might be making me sick.

I planned to take the afternoon easy, but as I was getting out of the shower I heard a chainsaw. Sure 'nuf, the church was having a work day. The agreement is if we clean up and haul the wood, we can have it. They cut down two HUGE pine trees and another smaller tree. I am beat!!!

Oh dang, I forgot. Well, I certainly can treat him for anaphylaxis. Do you want me to?

It is incredibly humid up here. They told us we had a 90% chance of thunderstorms today. I went outside and looked up at the clear blue sky and put the goats out anyway. Sure enough, we've dropped to a 40% chance, and I think that's pushing it. There were some pretty tall clouds forming on the east side of Cleveland as I drove in to work, but they weren't moving very fast.

Maybe that's part of it. Hopefully she will really enjoy the convention and not feel overwhelmed.

We just got home from the second annual PaddleFest. They changed the rules so that Brandon was able to take a class without me (thank goodness, since he dunked himself twice! While wearing MY hat!), and I was glad since I am not feeling well and didn't think I should be in the water today. Anyway, both boys had fun.

I had to MAKE Nate wear sandals--he was going to wear his every day shoes, which happen to be hiking boots. No, they aren't actually good for EVERYTHING, kid! LOL

Gonna be the mean mommy and make the kids learn something (other than paddling) and do some chores.

I was a mean mom today and sent all Joe's friends home. Of course, half of them had already been here for over 24 hours. Joe had a sleepover for his birthday. Three friends stayed overnight and three more showed up today. I kicked everybody out at 4 because I didn't want to feed the masses again. Two of his friends have a knack for showing up in the late afternoon and just assume they're invited for dinner. I don't mind this occasionally, but sometimes I've already planned the meal. I had three little steaks for tonight and some pork I was going to grill for tomorrow's supper. Plus, those kids went through 4 gallons of milk since Friday morning! This wasn't their fault. Joe kept pouring everybody huge glasses. I had pop for the party, but everyone wanted milk instead. At least it was healthy.

I went to pick up some flowers today and they were getting rid of a lot of their plants. I started out with 12 plants and they only charged me $2.21, then the lady insisted I take 3 more of everything for free! We managed to find homes for all of them.

I also got a new exercise thingy. The neighbors were having a garage sale. It's sort of like a bike, but it has long handles that move back and forth when you peddle. It has a peddle driven fan too. All-in-all it's been a good day.

I have been in bed most of the day resting today. Russ has extended the laundry chute to out bathroom on the fourth floor. I am so excited. It is going to make so much easier to keep the dirty laundry from piling up in my room.

I hate to tell you this, but you cannot do that. It is a first post, first, uh, post situation.

Where DO you ladies find your husbands? I NEVER meet men who would do these things (well, if I do, they are already taken).

Kara, sometimes we talk a lot and the thread has to be re-started on the 15th. Keep your eyes open

I found a half flat of strawberries for less than three dollars!!! Which totally made up for the 1/4 flat of blueberries I paid five for, lol. Tomorrow's lunch at my mom's will be grilled steaks, asparagus and fruit salad. I am drooling already

Brandon is mowing the church lawn. I believe the plan (which is not his) is for him and the youth pastor's son to alternate mowing and weed-eating and do this each saturday, in the morning (but today is an exception). We will see how this works. It would be very good for Brandon to learn to work with this particular boy. If it does work out, that makes four, I think, regular lawn-mowing gigs, not including our own, which, oddly enough, the neighbors mowed the other day, lol.

Jake just called. The army is sending him home. They decided that his feet are deformed and won't issue him boots. He does have weird feet. The toes curl up when he's standing flat. The thing is, they saw that when he enlisted and waited until now to do x-rays. He also said he'd had pneumonia and had been sick for 8 days. I'm surprised that we weren't informed about that. Sigh, I was really hoping this would be Jake's chance to get his life in order. Please pray for him.
