Sue, I will pray. HOWEVER, we do know that this is for Jake's best--if God wanted him in the Army, he would be able to stay. We can't see the future, of course, but do we have to?

I found mine at church. I scooped him up before he had a chance to go with anyone else. He was only 16 when we started dating.

I am so sorry to here that Sue. That is so disappointing. I always looked at that sort of thing as God letting us know which direction to go or not go... hence, he is closer to figuring out what he is supposed to be doing.

That's true, Jen. Even when I've been praying for him, I've only been praying that God will do whatever is necessary to prepare Jake for serving Him. I just don't want to see him drift through life. Maybe this will be the wake-up call he needs.

Well, Lisa, I am certainly not going after any sixteen year olds![:o]

Sue, it might be the wake up call that he needs, but he will need to grieve it for a bit and it may seem to be the opposite of the reaction you would like for a time.

I'm with the others...if God wanted him to be there, he'd be there. Praying for you all as you adjust and come up with a new plan though.

Awww, Sue, I'm sorry. Jake has to be disappointed.

They wouldn't have notified you of the pneumonia because Jake's an adult. They wouldn't call family unless what he had was life threatening.

Jen, I am glad to know you're not going after 16 year olds. [8D]

I hope that he is not too disappointed. I am surprised that they missed his toes during his physical. We had a friend who's son was scrubbed from West Point during his pre-physical because they discovered that he had eczema. He'd received his nomination and been accepted.

Eczema?! Wow. I had no idea that could keep someone from military service. Interesting.

I'm sorry, Sue. Who knows what boot camp has done for your son. This may have been just the thing he needed.

My uncles were both drafted during Vietnam but they rejected one due to Athsma. When the other came home from boot camp, they had a knock-down-drag-out fight because the younger one who was scrubbed had to prove he was just as much man as the elder. My grandmother laughs when she tells that story. She said after the younger one finally pinned the elder, it was over and they went on as if nothing had happened!

I had a nice evening at small group. When there's a 5th Sat we do something without the kids. Tonight we had a cookout and then watched movies on the new flat screen surround sound TV of our recent law school grad. We ended up watching 2 movies and my little guy was quite upset. He thought I forgot about them.

Yeah, unfortunately. The state seems to think it important that some sort of math work is included in her portfolio. I truly detest portfolios. [:'(]

Yeah, so do I. I don't know what I have to put in ours yet. I have someone to review them and her ds is having heart surgery on the last Friday in June (the 27th). He will be about 11 months old and has a tumor in his heart. The surgeon was booked till Aug but cleared 2 spots for this little boy for them to pick from in June.

I am thankful that we don't have to do portfolios. I will have to start thinking about testing soon, though--I generally get it done in August but July would be nice since it isn't immediate results as it is when I have them assessed in person.

The good news is that this is the last one we have to do for Erin. She turns 17 in November, which is the end of mandatory schooling in PA. Not that she won't continue learning, of course, but I don't have to tell the state what we're doing any longer. That will just leave me 2 to do next year. [:D]

I have one more year before I have to worry about ds. He won't be 8 till end of Nov so next year is a free year still for him.

The school year that starts the calendar year they turn 6. So with my February kids, I don't report until they are 6.5. Hannah could be in second grade by then!

Sue--I'm so sorry. Dh made it down to Pensacola for Navy AOCS. Once down there, he failed the physical. Never mind that he'd had numerous physicals before going down... Here 20-some years later and he hasn't gotten over it.

Call me a law breaker, but I neglected to notify when we started hsing ds3. He was 6yo when we started kindergarten. Since kindergarten isn't required in OH, I figured he didn't need to notify. Except, because he was 6yo, we should notified. Ops...

Just got back from a very hot and humid run. Finally back into double digits!!! Okay, so it was just a bit over 10miles... Will be heading out for a ride in just a bit. This afternoon if the kids "bug me enough" I just might take 'em up to the lake.

My sister graduated yesterday, and we went up there for that and for a family reunion. It was so neat! I'll have to blog about it later when I have more time, but the homeschool graduations I've been to always say so much about homeschooling. There were eighteen graduates this year, and it was such an impressive group of young adults. They each had a paragraph in the bulletin about their accomplishments and plans for the future. It was so neat seeing the opportunities they'd had and reading about all the things they've been involved in over the years. Some of them displayed their talents, which were incredible. These parents have done such an excellent job and are sending out some very fine young men and women into the world. [:)]

DS will be in 4th grade before i have to report. And because he's a year ahead (sort of) I get to skip a year of testing. We are supposed to test in 3rd grade but he will be too young to have to report so I don't have to test. It was the same way with dd2
