The more TL grows, the more I enjoy her. She is becoming such a lovely young lady. I get very little attitude from her, but lots of loving words and actions. She is the joy of my heart. It makes me sad that just as she's becoming this amazing young woman, she is growing wings to fly away. I hope she doesn't go far from me. I will miss her terribly if she does.

I am enjoying my teens as well. I get the occasional attitude here and there, but nothing like what some people would have you believe is "normal" for teens. In general we get along very well. I am very pleased with the people they are turning out to be. You're right, Cynthia - TL is a lovely young lady. Erin called from church camp - she did a rolling fall on a walkway and smacked her knee, hip, shoulder and head in that order. She went to the nurse and is fine, but a little sore and banged up. They are having fun, though, and Brandon has only needed ibuprofen once, which is pretty good for him. They come home Friday. I am planning to kidnap my best friend on Friday evening. She has been pretty stressed what with taking care of her mom with Alzheimers + her dh gone driving trucks + no money coming in (long story) + teenagers and a 4 year old, so I am going to get her out of there for awhile. We will get dinner somewhere and then find something else to do. I don't know if there are any movies playing that we might actually want to see. Heck, we might even end up just wandering around Wal-Mart, but at least it would be without husbands, kids, and sweet but confused old ladies.

Well, I have a moody teen today so I can't sympathize with all you proud mommies, lol. Also I am tired. And our day is off-kilter (as in, we are only now fixing dinner).

Cindy, you a good friend. I hope you and your friend have a wonderful time. We had a great time at the zoo. Hannah is a walking boo-boo. Her hand all bandaged up, of course. An hour before we left, she fell and split her shin open on a brick...almost stitch worthy, but I got it to close. When we got to the zoo, I noticed huge itchy bug bites all over her, probably from the night before when she was out playing late while Brian worked in the garage (gotta remember to bug spray her next time...she's too sweet apparently!). And then getting out of the van, she and Noah bonked heads and she has her first real black eye. She looks very pathetic. I'm really hoping CPS doesn't choose today to stop by. She's "proud" of all her boo-boos though and would gladly tell the story to go with each. LOL

WOF - praying that they got it all this time & all is clear at your post op appt!!! I had a wise older lady tell me once that the things that drive us crazy about our kids while they're growing up are the things that serve them well as adults! I used to just think she meant the toddler years, but I think it applies all the way through! Cindy - have fun kidnapping your friend! I'm sure she'll appreciate the time away! We had a nice mom's group last night with 6 of us coming & one new hsing mom who has sick kids right now & just needed to get out of the house for a bit! It was uplifting to encourage her & to just chat with the other moms! Donna - WOW, that's lots of boo boos!! I could just see the workers face if they stopped by & Hannah told them the story of each one! Dh got a ride into work, because he had to leave one vehicle there & now he can bring it home. The a/c is fixed in his car & it has a 1 year warranty (so if it leaks out in a week like it did before, we can take it back)! It was only $450 just like the guy said (can't believe I just said only $450!). It's nice to be quoted a price & it actually be that price - we've had some experiences where that wasn't the case! KWIM? My newsletter is to the printers. Hopefully, they'll call soon & I can go pick it up! Dd & I are going to start weeding through toys in her room! Tonight is the last night of the VBS she's going to! She wants to go to church there on Sunday (because the kids are going to sing) but we don't want to miss service at our church because they will be telling about the mission trip. So, I need to see if she can go with her friend & how to work it out logistically! Speaking of the mission trip - ds still has not called!! They head back tomorrow, so I'm just not expecting to hear from him at all. I'm not necessarily worried, but it would make me feel better if I heard directly from him that he's doing OK. He's an independent kind of kid, so I guess this is another one of those things that will serve him well as an adult (but drive his mama batty right now!)

Although I do get attitude from my teen.... we still get along pretty good and I am proud of her, also. I do worry though, she still has a lot of teen years ahead of her. Some how, my children got into "styles" . They are picky about what is cool and what isn't....I honestly thought homeschooling would cut back on that, but it has almost made them want to fit in even more when it comes to their clothing. How much time do you spend on the computer?? I am finding myself spending way too much time on it! Are you able to keep in touch here on CW without spending a lot of time on it? I am mad at myself, I bet I've been on here an hour already, not just at CW, but on email, ebay, weather..etc.

I can spend hours if I don't watch it. I've gotten to the point (at times) where I only check certain folders or threads & just don't even look at new ones. I've been this way about TV too (refusing to start watching new shows)! I just got an e-mail through with info about dogs & xylitol (artificial sweetener in gum & other things). I had never heard of this danger, but checked it out & it's real. I figured many of you are dog owners like us & may not have known the danger either. Apparently it makes their blood sugar levels drop rapidly & may cause liver failure. Here's the article from snopes.com if you're interested: xylitol danger

An hour? email, ebay & CW? hehehehehe! My email alone can take an hour. Especially if I am replying. The Yearbook staff stuff is going by the side soon so that won't be an issue. We have cable internet and the browser is up most all day. I don't sit here all day but check in more than a few times a day. I am working in photographs on the computer and have actually had two "jobs" thus far this summer so I have spent a lot of time on here working photos. I will often check the forums while I am waiting the few moments that it takes for the one program to talk to the other program. (Need dedicated graphics driver) Most days the kids are in here with me... there are 4 desktops in here and we have the ability to hook up the laptop as well. At any given time we may have 1 on FaceBook & reading Fan Fiction, 1 conquering the world in CIV III (We have the conquer the word thing and can actually plan each other that is too cool!), 1 researching iron working, & 1 playing around on reader rabbit and so on... ~e

When I was working, I could do with 20-30 minutes in the morning and an hour or less in the evening, total online time. But when not working, I do spend much more. But, like Ez, it's here and there where it's convenient, and my PC is in the living room/dining room/school room so it isn't keeping me from the kids. I pretty much keep my email and stuff open unless the kids use the computer for their math or other schoolwork.

My computer is also in the DR and that is the same room where the kids do school. I will sit here browsing on CW and stuff while they do their school work...stopping as needed to help them. It keeps me here close while they work to keep them on task and gives me something to do when they don't need me.

Donna--don't worry about Hannah! There are "normal" bumps and bruises of childhood. SHins, black eyes, etc are pretty typical for active kids. My computer is in the family room. We have cable, so the 'net is up all day. I pop in through out the day. I do spend way too much time online... We ahd terrible storms roll through last night. I was sleeping downstairs last night (I NEED sleep and dh flops around all night). I woke to kids tromping down stairs at 12:30. Yep. Tornado warning. It was south of us, but we stayed in the basement til the warning expired. We could see that we were still in for more storms, but just your run of the mill storms. Just as everyone was getting settled back into bed, the sirens went off. Herd four kids, two dogs, and one snake back down to the basement. Only to find that... sirens went off in error! SOmehow htey couldn't figure out how to shut 'em off... I had my alarm set for 5:50 but figured that ds1 would never get up at 6:00 for our ride. WRONG!!! He got up, got dressed, and came down for breakfast. We rode 24.5miles. Once back to the van ds1 walked a bit while I did my run. 3.4miles. Now that we've had (second) breakfast, ds1 and I are going out to unclog gutters.

It was much easier when I started public school to not be wearing the "cool" clothes. It was very, very hard in church because we were some of the only home schoolers and even the other home schoolers weren't wearing thrift store clothes. Middls school years were the.worst.years.ever.

It was very, very hard in church because we were some of the only home schoolers and even the other home schoolers weren't wearing thrift store clothes. Middls school years were the.worst.years.ever. I think in when homeschooling was more in its infancy, it did help kids to feel less pressure about their clothes. However, too many comments about "homeschoolers not being in style," changed that. Also, as I've watched homeschooling develop over the years (and I'm now 36, and have been watching it since I was 14, even before I was doing it myself), it seems like with more and more people homeschooling, there tend to be larger groups of them now, whether at church or at support groups, or wherever, that I've noticed sometimes they start to get into the exact same dynamics over clothes/cliques/the opposite sex as school kids always did. To me, I've sometimes felt like as more and more people home schooled, some of the original benefits were lost. And while I DON'T think parents are obligated to buy the latest most expensive name brand of everything, I certainly agree with not dressing oneself, or one's kids in sack jumpers all the time (hopefully, I don't step on anyone's toes with that one, from what I've gathered, it doesn't seem like the people in this folder do that). I went through the jumpers all the time stage in college, then wondered why I didn't fit in . I'm 36, but If I went back to college, I'd probably fit in better now than I did then.

My guys could pretty much care less about clothes. Sometimes I take them shopping with me, most of the time not. Ds2 is into baggy shorts and dark colored shirts. Makes it pretty easy! Ds1 is the funny one. The only time he's picky about clothing is with his cycling stuff. He wants PLAIN BLACK cycling shorts. No color panels. Whatever... Now, if ds1 could care a bit more about hygeine. We did that bike/run this morning. He got home and changed back into every day clothes. Uh, SHOWER!!! But, he's gonna be running aorund all day and is gonna get sweaty again. Nice try! SHOWER! My hand is still swollen. The sting was in my little finger. The swelling and itching is all the way to my middle finger.

His, ouch! The swelling is always worse the second day. My kids don't like the clothes that are in style now. They want stuff that actually covers their body parts, thank you very much. My boys passed their last swimming class as well, which was the one they are required (by me) to pass before swimming lessons can be discontinued. However, they both want to keep on going so they will start back up in the fall. My friend (the one I'm kidnapping tomorrow) takes them along when her kids go, which is a huge blessing to me. They wouldn't be able to go if she didn't, since I can't commit to a class that meets every Saturday morning.
