Seeing as I missed out on the chance to start the June thread for the homeschoolers, I figured I'd start the women's chat one instead!

Wow- we are starting early this month It isn't quite June for me yet (30 mins still in May) but I guess it is okay to post in June - since it is June for most of the world already.

Welcome Mandy and Laura!! Just jump on in with us. You would actually be suprised at how young most of the ladies in here are. I always think I am one of the younger ones, but I am pretty much in the middle if not on the older side and I am 25.

I read something else in May that I wanted to talk about, but now I forgot what it was.

I have spent the last hour writing a "goodbye" letter and posting pictures on my various "network" sites. I wish I had 30-60 minutes that I could spend with each person that has been a part of my life over the past 2 years, but even if I only spent that little bit of time with each person, I still wouldn't get through everybody. So I have to do some goodbyes in a letter. I really hope that my students read it because I think it will help them deal with everything better this next week. Not only are they saying goodbye to me, but they are also saying goodbye to some of their friends that won't be back next year. It is going to be a week of tears and laughter. In many ways, I will be glad when it is over because the hard part of goodbyes will be done. However, Friday will be the last day that I see many of my students because they leave either Friday afternoon or Sat for vacations.

I still had 5 hours of June when this was started.

While scrubbing the toilet this morning I had even though of the perfect thread title.... June Bugs and Lady Chatter-bugs.....

I'm just teasing. I've been around these boards since around Thanksgiving of 2001 and I have never been in time to start one.

Yes, I nearly need a walker too.

I've got extra kids here today. At least the house was in order before the extras arrived and they're happily playing a board game so it's not too noisy yet.

I've got about four more loads of washing to do and nowhere to hang it because the sheets and towels I washed on Tuesday are still hanging on the line outside because it's rained for four days.

I do have some airers I can use inside but I think I'll just toss them in the dryer instead today because there are some things I want to use tomorrow and if I'm going to use the dryer I might as well make it worthwhile.

Well, if we're starting the month by discussin age ... I turned 29 on May 6, and am expecting child #5 in August ...

I have a tonne of laundry to do over the next few days ... it has been neglected something fierce the past couple of days while we were putting in new flooring in the basement (and painting, and, and, and ... renos are never-ending!)

I'm hoping that tomorrow will be sunny and really warm, so we can get started on the pool for the summer (it needs to soften in the sun before it gets set up ... it's one of those steel-frame pools)

Oh no Roberta! That's not fun! Did you have to rewash many pieces?

Our yard is mostly dirt. Almost every time I wash I have to rewash something because I've knocked it out of the basket while picking up another piece of clothing.

I'm 35yo next month.

Beth, all the time (some) premed students from here go to other countries... none of the time do they tell me. :( It's not like I'd go anyway...maybe that's why they don't tell me! Lol. I might go to a Spanish-speaking country though... someday... probably because I feel better knowing Spanish rather than going another place and not knowing the native language.

I'm taking embryology at a place that's not my home institution. The instructor decides to use this old book from 11 yrs ago, which I do have an issue with, BUT he says some stuff that's not right that irritates me intellectually. Like the other day we were talking about ectopics and how none of them have ever been viable. That would fly with me, IF it were true. There's other stuff, but that's the one I can think of right now. Lol.

Yeah, and I've heard of a few surviving on the intestines. I'm just suprised that he seems to keep up with current stuff but doesn't know that at least one ectopic has survived. And apparenlty none of the students there know either... but it seems like all the bio. students where I normally am do know. It's a different atomosphere, but it really surprises me.

That was really sweet of her Roberta.

I'm slowly getting through stuff. I've only got handwashing to do after the current load and as I haven't got anywhere to hang it right now I will probably put off doing that until later in the week.

We were going to go to church tonight as dh wasn't feeling well this morning but he's still not feeling well so I'm thinking we're not going to get to church this weekend.

I know what you mean. J brought dh and I breakfast in bed this morning - scrambled eggs, toast and tea.

Pass me the Ben Gay...I'm 41.

Tamara, can you mention something to the school about how out-of-date this teacher is? Maybe they need to know that he's a bit too far behind the times?

Beth- Nice pics. Now I finally know what you look like!

Well, it's the last week of "real" teaching and then we're just keeping them busy for the rest of the time. We'll keep doing lessons pretty much like normal except that I won't be taking grades on them. We're also getting ready for the End-of-Year program.

Stacy, I'm thinking about having my girls make cards for little Alex. I also e-mailed the other teachers on my team in case they're interested in doing it as well.

Have a nice day, ladies.

Sorry ladies, I wasn't trying to say that everybody older than me is ancient, but did want to let the new ladies know that the board is not full of old, grandmas who sit around and chat all day (no offense to the grandma's around here- one of them is my aunt and I know that she has plenty that she does every day). I just know for myself, I was suprised to discover that many of the ladies are still in their 20s and that I wasn't the "baby" on the board by any stretch of the imagination. I love each one of you and every person contributes so much- regardless of their ages. The wisdom and expirences of some of the younger ladies gives up to me as well has the faithful service of the older ones to encourage me in my walk with Christ. I have grown and learned a lot from everybody on this board, but especially here in the Women's Folder over my 18 months on here. Seriously though, you ladies have encouraged me many times and helped me to see more of the bigger picture on the days where I wasn't sure that I would make it through the day. I have loved laughing with you and crying with you when something has gone wrong. You are my family and I greatly appreciate all that you have done to help me through the past 18 months. (and no, I am not leaving the boards )

I really didn't sleep very well last night. I got about 6 hours of sleep. I will see if I manage to get anymore here in the next 2 hours or so and see how I feel then. I won't make it to Sunday School, but maybe I will make it to church. Then a nap this afternoon is sounded like a really good idea.

Beth- I wish we had the ablity to not teach for grades this week. And technically I wouldn't have to grade things this week, but the principal still wants to see lesson plans. To me it is pretty much pointless as the kids are just there because they have to be this week- no learning is going to take place. No learning was taking place last week already!! On Friday, I explained the math lesson and made sure the students could do the difficult aspect of the assignment. I figured if they could do the hardest part, then surely they could reverse the process for the other part. No such luck. I had to reexplain everything - including the easy part of the assignment. So it will be an interesting last couple of days.

I'd love for them to get up-to-date. It's a problem I see a lot when I go there, but it's almost as if the students aren't really up to date either and don't care to be. At my normal university students would have jumped all over that ectopic pregnancy thing.... here it's like they don't really care to keep up with any science, but science is their major/specialty. I'm not talking about just embryology... just science in general.

My home institution has a rep of being very hard...If I'd known that before I went I might not have gone. ;) I that's why I just don't understand why people are behind in the times and giving wrong info. In a way it seems good though...because I'm so used to things being hard that most of the time when I go elsewhere to take a class it seems easy.

I think what's bugging me is that around here there are several black colleges that have big issues that make them fall into the negative stereotypes...and these issues are fixable. Where I am now, they're not up-to-date... there was a shooting there recently (over something dumb between two guys), and they let things go too much. If I tried to do half the stuff people do there at my "home" place I'd be expelled or something. And my other black friends have gone to places like that over the summer... and what they tell me is worse. I guess I'm not understanding why this is happening. If it's a negative stereotype I'd attempt to NOT fall into it, but they fall and don't try to get out of it.

Beth- I'm so glad you're making a card for Alex. That story has really touched my heart. I'm trying to get a bunch of people at work to make cards and send them all in a big batch.

I'm 25, so I guess that puts me right in the middle. I'm doing paperwork today, but other than that we're pretty much just hibernating. We may go out for Coldstone later, although I'm sure ice cream will be murder on hubby's cough. He starts his summer session of classes tomorrow- pray that he gets to sleep enough to be alert for classes.
