I'm surprised it was a long wait, unless it was late in the evening in the summer. I'm pretty sure they actually originated here and, they are everywhere. We get coupons in the paper pretty frequently too.

Lol...pretty much, yeah. Whatever you do don't look at the calorie info for the ice creams. Does anyone have coffee shops around called "Its a Grind"- better than Starbucks, and a little bit cheaper.

It is quite expensive, but MAN is it good! We generally only go when we have coupons for a special deal. We call them snowbirds here too.

ORIGINAL: crimsonfollower Sorry ladies, I wasn't trying to say that everybody older than me is ancient, but did want to let the new ladies know that the board is not full of old, grandmas who sit around and chat all day (no offense to the grandma's around here- one of them is my aunt and I know that she has plenty that she does every day). I just know for myself, I was suprised to discover that many of the ladies are still in their 20s and that I wasn't the "baby" on the board by any stretch of the imagination. I think I'm the eldest so far at 50something, 53? I can't keep track. I think most of the women who post in here are in their 20's. Seems like it to me. I'm glad I do not have to hang out my wash. It just seems like a lot of work! We have so much dust from the farmers tilling the soil and my son is really allergic to every single grass, weed and tree they tested him for, which is everything in our part of the state.

I don't have to hang my wash out. I love to do it! It smells so nice and fresh! Tonight's supper-making conversation was cute. I was considering making black-eyed peas. My niece, J-10 told me that sounded gross! I asked her if she'd ever had them. She said no she hadn't because she doesn't like peas and NOBODY in their right mind would ever want black eyes!! I thought that was cute.

It was June here when this thread was started. At 39, do you think I need ben gay, a rocking chair and a walking stick? Actually, the way my body is, I think I'd probably need them all anyway, despite my age.

I HATE the way my professor teaches. He doesn't always know the information accurately (so he contradicts the book and texts), then he writes things on the board that confuse people. The other day he asked where the corona radiata was (it's around the egg), and this other girl said around the sperm... he said no. I said around the egg, and he said that's right. It's not that hard, BUT I see why the other girl said it was around the sperm. He gives us outlines as notes rather than talking or just writing freehand. He'll write stuff like "sperm-corona radiata".... which might lead one to believe that one is a component of the other. What he meant by that was what happens when the sperm hits/penetrates the corona radiata... but the notes are ambigious, and you might THINK you know what it means when you were mistaken. Then he'd told us the order of a zygote going to a blastula (zygote-morula-blastula)... then the other day he said it wrong twice... which contradicted his own notes from a few days before. I went with what the book says...I really should have known it anyway but I always forget the order of the last two. I think he'll count it wrong, but honestly, how do you know which is right when he's all over the place? I figure the book is more concrete... sometimes I notice he'll have notes and then write down the wrong thing EVEN when he's looking at his own notes. I took chemistry at this place a year ago, but my professor knew what he was talking about.

Tami, when he makes up tests, are the correct answers what he says is the answer or by what the text books say? Just curious.

I hope you ladies are ready to walk the next two weeks with me, because it is only Monday, and it feels like it should be at least Wednesday or maybe even Thursday by now. So the morning didn't start out that well. I turned off my alarm and then closed my eyes for a "second". Next thing I know, it is 15 min before I am suppose to leave for work!!!!!!!!!! So I jump out of bed and I am trying to get ready when my roommate calls out that she is leaving. I was pretty upset because she didn't ask how much longer I would be, just said that she was leaving. If she had asked, I would have told her less than 5 mins, but she had the tone of you are already late and I don't want to be late, so bye (I really don't think she was thinking mean, just my hormones getting the better of me). So by the time I got to school, I was pretty upset and found a place to cry for a few minutes. I pulled myself together and started the day. Other than a few frustrating moments with my students, the day went pretty well. Then we had staff meeting- my last one. I enjoyed the time laughing with my co-workers and making jokes since this is the last week and if we don't have things pretty well figured out by now, we are in trouble Anyway, the principal asked me to say the final prayer during prayer time. I just about lost it as I realized that it would probably be my last time to pray with/for the staff like that. So, now it is almost 7:30 and I am tired!!! This emotional roller coaster is not going to be a fun ride over the next two weeks. And all of the goodbyes that have to be said. I found out today that one of the goodbyes is going to have to be said on Thursday because this child is leaving Friday morning. But since it will be at graduation and everybody will be crying already, it probably won't make a big difference And then all the goodbyes to the kids on Friday. I am going to be a basket case then- I can already tell. And yet, I wouldn't trade all of this for anything. It has been an amazing two years down here and the opportunities to meet these kids and their families and to see how God has worked in their lives just continues to amaze me. The next two weeks are going to be hard, but I wouldn't trade them either. Thanks for reading all of that. I really don't have any other place I can talk about all of this because the other teacher that is leaving with me is having her own struggles in different areas and everybody else really doesn't understand since they are staying here. Plus, I can't put anything up on any of my sites (like Facebook) because my students are on there and I don't really want them to know what I say about them yet I am sure there will be a few more posts like this one. Now to our regular scheduled program..... Tamara- I think if you get a chance to do a review on the professor, make mention of the fact that he doesn't know his material. And on that question, if I got it wrong, I think I would take the book to him and show him where you got the answer- and if he doesn't believe it, find some resources that back you up. Mandy and Lacey - enjoy your summer- adulthood comes all to quick (and I am not talking about age) and then you are faced with all kinds of things!! While I wouldn't go back and do anything differently, I would enjoy that time around 17, 18, 19 when all I had to worry about what college classes and having enough money to put some gas in my car on occassion and buy some clothes. There wasn't a lot else I needed. Now I am trying to figure out how to furnish a house (and literally everything has to be bought somehow - I have nothing!!) when my first paycheck won't come till Sept!! "faith" - do you mind me asking where in Kansas you are moving to?? Enjoy the time off (though I understand not having money- see directly above!! ) hanging wash out- my mom and grandma keep telling me that I don't need a dryer - that I can just hang my wash out like I have been doing for the past two years (actually I hang it in the house, but the roof in the laundry area can move back to let the sun in). I don't really have a problem with hanging my wash out since I grew up doing that for our family and I love the smell of it being sun dried. What I don't like is in the winter when you go to get the clothes and they are still damp - even after a day or two of trying to dry in the house. That is when I will want a dryer. Somebody mentioned the dust - my family has always had that problem. My mom has been trying for years to get a tree row established so that one day the trees will stop the dust from the road and from when dad is working the fields. The trees still aren't big enough to do much good, so the clothes occassionally have a little bit of dust on them that has to be shaken out. One thing Oklahoma wind is good for- drying out the clothes I think that is all I have for now. Sorry this was a book!! Hope you enjoyed!!

Beth, is Oklahoma wind anything like Kansas wind? LOL....I remember how well it worked when I was a child. Always dusty.... I'll send you a PM with our destination city in Kansas (it's just hard to say how many people read this thread, if that makes sense!) I hear you on the last days of school, Beth, as I just went through this last week. It was hard, but it really ended up going well. I don't think I posted here about it, but God just really gave me this peace about things. I took advantage of every opportunity to play with the kids (we were done with learning already, obviously as y'all are too...or pretty close to it). We played games...we laughed...we all ate food together....I gave hugs...and received hugs...took some pictures...had some pictures taken. I didn't really say, "Goodbye," per say...I did more of the, "See you later," kind of thing. Most of these kids come from a Christian family so if they accept Christ, I know I'll see them in Heaven if not again on earth. Tamara, ugh about professors that do that. I had a teacher in high school that I thought did that (as his tests always came from his notes). But I found out in college that he really was right. I took a Chemistry class that counted as Intro. to Chem at the college level. About halfway through Chemistry II, my college professor asked me why I hadn't tested out of his courses. I already knew everything I needed to know because my high school teacher had taught me! There was one new topic that I recollect and even when I slacked off second semester (too distracted by the man who would eventually be my husband)...I still pulled an A. Anyway, if what the book says is different from what he's teaching/testing...I would figure out a way to show him somehow...maybe go see him during office hours (don't do it in front of the entire class). Lacey & Mandy---gotta love you too. You're brightening our day around here already. So what are your summer plans?
