I can't believe it's June already!! September is going to be here before I know it. Noah has 10 more days of school...well, 9 really. The 10th day is closing/awards, cleaning out your desks, and school picnic. Nick goes until the 25th, and I think his whole last week is half days. Stupid waste of gas money, IMO. I've got to call Nick's teacher and find out what was decided about summer school and next year for him. She assured me she would call us, but...hasn't. I can't stand when people say they will do something and then don't.

I hear ya Donna! With all the gripeing about fuel costs around here you would think the district would look for ways to NOT waste so much, but NO! The highschool here had a half a day the last day of school, which essentially meant that the bus drivers would do their routes 5 times that day! Twice in the morning (once for the high school/middle school kids and once for the elementary) and then 3 times in the afternoon! Once for the high schoolers after their half day, once for the middle schoolers who got out as schdueled and once for the elementary! I so hate waste! They've cut out transportation for summer school here. Ty after his 9th grade year could take gym as a summer school course, but he's going to have to do it during the school year if they don't bring back summer school bussing. Today is Brian and I's 17th anniversary! He let me sleep in this morning and he got up and took Zoe and Ty to Church! They were the only ones up! I think later maybe he and I will sneak back into town and get some ice cream together! I have a nice little gift certificate so it won't cost us more then the gas to get there. Watched the Scripps spelling bee Friday night! Was VERY pleased that an Indiana boy took top honors! Blessings, Garsy

I have to confess to you all that I have seriously considered leaving this forum. Sometimes I feel as if I post and no one even notices. I posted about my daughter being on TV no responce. I'm feeling a big ignored. Oh well, on to the Quinn news. Jessica, my oldest is still struggling. Part of it is her, part of it is the school. She has a 504 plan which, for those of you who don't know, is for kids who have disabilites or learning problems but don't need services, such as speech therapy or resource classrooms, but do need adaptations to their regular classroom environment. Anyway, she has problems with handwriting. Even when she tries her best it is very difficult to read. So as an adaptation she has a machine called an AlphaSmarts. It looks like a small computer but only holds about 8 files. She is suppose to do her English, History, and Science on this. At least for anything that requires a large amount of writing. The problem comes when she needs to print. She has to go before school and transfer each file to the computer in the computer lab, then print them. This requires changing cables between the AlphaSmarts and the computer, then back for each file. So it is time consuming. One of the cables got damaged so the school decided that she can't change the cables herself and they won't let her bring the AlphaSmarts and cables home so we can print. So if the computer teacher isn't there she can't print. She has gotten behind on her printing again and it's affecting her grade. We are just going to have to come up with something better for next year. I know the 504 coordinator for the district and I'm going to call on him to see what can be done. The twins on the other hand are just blossoming. They are developmentally delayed and in a special education classroom. They are in 4th grade but function at about a 1st to 2nd grade level. I've noticed a lot of growth in their language, both written and oral, and their general thinking skills. They seem to be thinking on a much deeper or sophisticated level now. Much more like elementry kids than younger kids. I'm in school too and loving it. I'm going to be a medical assistant. The person at the doctor who takes you back gets your height, weight, vitals and helps the doctor with any procedures. I'm doing well and loving it. So far I have a 97.5% average in the academic part. We have just started skills, we did vitals last week and it was pretty easy. Now we start phlebotomy, or blood draws. I'm a little nervous but my teacher is great so we'll get through it. So on that happy note, I'm off to do homework. Congratulations to Garsy and Brian, and Kath and Larry!!! I hope you both have great celebrations!

Congratulations Garsy&Brian, Kath&Larry! What kind of alphasmart is it? If its a Neo or Dana (probably a neo) then its a simple USB cord. You can buy them at Walmart. They're not that expensive. If its a 3000 (they're pretty old but its possible) then it may be a special cord, or just a USB. http://alphasmart.com/k12/K12_Products/usb_connect_cable_K12.html I'd say bring over a USB cord to her school to replace the one she broke and ask that she be allowed to print again because its affecting her work. I'm around ladies. I still read here occasionally but I'm kind of a bummer right now so I just don't want to post. Happy End of School Everyone!

Happy everything to everyone!!! Lady, I am sorry you feel that way, but I can also sometimes say I know the feeling. I think things just go in spurts. I know I haven't been around too much with our house stuff and wrapping up dance and soccer and school, not in that particular order, plus some personal things that are really not worth talking about. So Happy June to everyone and I so totally can't wait for this month to be over so that I can be all settled in my new house and the kids can be home with me so that I can actually see them once in a while.

Hey Roberta, Julia, Kylie, Kim, Donna, Garsy, Tracy and Tamara! quote:
Today is Brian and I's 17th anniversary! Happy anniversary Garsy! We've just hit 23 years. :) We went to the Texas Roadhouse for dinner, someplace different for dessert and a trip to Omaha also has to include a trip to Lowes! {{{Kim}}} I am very sorry I missed your post about your daughter being on tv. I honestly do not mean to ignore you. I went back to the old thread to find your post. quote:
ORIGINAL: ladyingrace1979 Jessica had open house Thursday, dh went with her. It was also a celebration of the school being a California Distinguished school. One of the local T.V. stations sent a crew to the school and Jessica was on camera. I imagine it was a lot of fun to see your daughter on tv. If it happened to linz she'd get a buzz out of it. I thought it was pretty cool just having her picture on the front page of the school newsletter dressed up as the cat in the hat, TV would push her over the edge of excitement. :) quote:
ORIGINAL: ladyingrace1979 I'm in school too and it is going great. We have quizes every other day and so far my average is 97%, including one 100%. I'm going to be a medical assistant. Congratulations! quote:
One of the cables got damaged so the school decided that she can't change the cables herself and they won't let her bring the AlphaSmarts and cables home so we can print. So if the computer teacher isn't there she can't print. She has gotten behind on her printing again and it's affecting her grade. They are going to have to make some sort of accommodation about that, her grade should not be affected because of the limitation of the school! I hope you can get that straightened out. Kim, I read your twins are moving to a new teacher next year. David (larry's son with downs) moved on to a new teacher ever 3 years too, and there was a period of adjustment, mostly on the part of the teacher, but then it'd smooth out. David seemed to adjust to the teacher faster than she could catch on to the nuances of the students. David would try and pull his normal "trying to get out of school" routine and they would try to send him home but I knew what he was doing. After a while though things would settle down. quote:
I'm around ladies. I still read here occasionally but I'm kind of a bummer right now so I just don't want to post. {{{Tamara}}} anything you want ot talk about? quote:
he had decided that was an unnecessary waste of time each morning) and someone stole the money out of his wallet for the taxi ride home. He knows the rule about valuables at school. And yet he deliberately flouted both the school's and our rules about the issue How aggravating! I imagine now he understands the value of that rule anyway. Did you give him a consequence or was the fact the money was stolen enough of a lesson? Donna, I absolutely hate half days. What a waste of gas and time.

They replaced the cord but now they are all paranoid about it getting broken again. It's just a bad system. quote:

Garsy, I'm a bit worried about the schedule change too. I already told Noah that TV and computer time are going to be earned and since he'll be home alllllll day, neither will be on if their chores are not done. I also told him he is going to have mandatory outside time, even when Nick is not here. When Nick is here, they will probably be outside all day, but he doesn't like to play with Hannah so much. Tooooooooo bad. My head hurts already thinking of this summer. The only really good thing I can think of is that we can all go back to sleeping in until 8 or so. Today and last week, I had to wake Noah up 15 minutes before the bus came. I've got to call Noah's school tomorrow. He's certain that he will not be getting any awards at the closing, because he was only there half the year (actually, 6 out of 9 month). He didn't miss a single day of school and we "did school" every day at home too, actually more than the other kids because we didn't take all their breaks. Is it too much to ask that he get a perfect attendance award even though he wasn't there all year? He has earned it.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of making one if he doesn't get one. That's a good idea. I hope they will agree that he has earned it though. He will be discouraged to get nothing at the awards thing, and I don't want that when there is no reason for him to get nothing. I would think he'll at least get an honor roll (or maybe high honor...he was only 1 point away last quarter) thing. I don't want him penalized for the 3/4 months we homeschooled this year. OTOH, I don't want to be that pesky parent who thinks her kid deserves something every time, KWIM? I did already tell him that even if he gets NOTHING, he still gets to go to 3rd grade next year, and he can still be happy for the awards his friends get.

If he was there every day that he was enrolled he deserves the good attendance award.

But at the same time, IF he's had perfect attendence in the time frame that he's been there - it should account for something. We figured out the reason Ty didn't get into the top 10% in his CAD class - In the massive field of A+'s he received one C+. Anyway, Zoe's has a friend over for a sleepover tonight. We are planning a day in town tomorrow and hoping it doesn't storm all day. We are taking Brian to his class, then going to the library. Then after we pick Brian up we are planning to go to the zoo. Oh I hope it doesn't get yucky! Blessings, Garsy

I'm sorry I missed your post about the TV crew, Kim. Very exciting! I hope you can get the printing situation worked out with the school. How much school do you have left there? I have 3 kids gone this week to camp! My little one and I are going to VBS each morning since I signed up to help. R wouldn't be old enough to go if I wasn't helping. Dee

Lady, I'm sorry I didn't respond to your daughter's TV appearance. Sometimes I can't remember everything I've read, I really need to get better about that. I'm sure it was really exciting for her. Bummer about the cable. Looks like they would work with her since the school wants everyone to succeed. How was the sleepover, Garsy? Donna, I hope they give Noah credit for perfect attendance while he was there. Hope everyone else is having a great day. Happy late anniversaries! We still have a full day and a half day left. It seems this year, most of the teachers are letting kids watch movies during the last week. At the high school and middle school, they have been movies related to things the kids have studied during the year, but still ... K's first-grade class has been watching Disney classics (Peter Pan, Dumbo, etc.), but they still do their reading and math. The movies are a reward after lunch when the class has listened well during the morning. The middle school have sports (faculty vs. students) every afternoon for those students who have not been written up for anything. They've had softball, flag football, volleyball, tug-of-war. Each middle school grade got to go to the local bowling alley last week for the afternoon (those who had good behavior for the last grading period). The school payed for one game and shoe rental for each person. The kids got to choose their own groups.
